It is essentially a Trans Am with the 301 turbo engine and every available Firebird option, including a T-top roof, air conditioning, limited-slip differential, white-painted alloy wheels, a full load of convenience features and the WS6 Performance Handling Package which included four-wheel disc brakes and stiffer suspension components. Pace Car replicas were available only in Cameo White with gray accents — and a unique hood decal even more dramatic than the normal Firebird. Check out this Road & Track article on the collectability of these Pace Cars: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a4673/boot-snap-this-up-65-1-roa0813/ A mere 5,700 Pace Cars were built 35 years ago; few of these ‘birds have survived; even fewer are in pristine condition. Here's one! Currently owned by a prominent O.C. businessman, the car is always garaged and covered; living a sheltered life among his private collection. Hence, a unique opportunity arises to obtain a coveted Pace Car, one that enjoyed a most beneficial climate, pampered beyond belief by a mature owner with big pockets and the willingness to pay up for the best service money can buy. The miles shown on the odometer—27,264--are of the original, documented kind! Let's check out this dream find now, inside and out! Amazingly, the car's exterior retains its factory original finish. Yes, the Cameo White paint is 100% original! The trailing edge of the Firebird Trans Am Turbo’s hood bulge contains this “boost indicator” that was exclusive to Pace Cars: three lights that illuminated in sequence as the turbocharger’s boost pressure rose. This Turbo has never suffered any damage; there are virtually no door dings or rock chips to report. Hood and door gaps are in perfect alignment. The little sticker under this “Trans Am” decal says “Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” identifying this as one of 5,700 replicas of the 1980 Indy 500 pace car. The extractor side scoop was a Pontiac Trans Am feature going back to the debut of the second-gen Firebird in 1970. These fully equipped limited editions sold new for $11,194. A very desirable option: the iconic T-Tops. T-tops feature original weather stripping that still appear fresh and in better condition than what many late-model cars have to offer. Let the sunshine in! The doors and trunk lid shut with a solid thud, expressing the quality that is often found on German automobiles. Tail spoiler is functional at speeds above 100 mph. Hood, door and trunk gaps on this Trans Am, are of reference quality. New hood decal and stripes are factory correct and absolutely stunning. , BF Goodrich Radial TA’s are mounted to the original white “Turbo” wheels (RPO LU8) used only on Trans Am Turbo and Pace Car replicas. Tire tread is like new. To call the paint "well preserved" would be a gross understatement; the truly marvelous finish has retained its magical luster over the years and still appears stunningly beautiful today. Open the door and you'll find the oyster interior in immaculate, original condition. Inside this Trans Am, luxury is abundant. This ‘bird comes with the fully optioned interior that exudes a fantastic aroma; let's investigate! The iconic cockpit featuring doeskin vinyl seats and hobnail inserts were exclusive to the pace cars and add a whole lot of old school style! The inviting bucket sport seats will easily accommodate Burt Reynolds (5’11”) to a 6'6"-tall NBA player. A plethora of Pace Car options include original Oyster Interior with TA embroidered door panels, doeskin vinyl seats with hobnail Inserts, power brakes, power mirrors, power windows and even cruise control, everything works perfectly, of course. The rainbow dash bezel with 3-spoke steering wheel is a timeless design. From the original Delco GM AM/FM Cassette Unit; to the ice cold A/C, everything remains in original, immaculate condition, further testament to just how well this low-mile ‘bird has been cared for. From the pristine carpets… …to the perfectly sealed T-Tops; the condition of the original interior is consistent only with a cherished, low-mileage car that's been garaged all its life. When the car was 9 years old, it only had 24,160 miles as seen on this 1989 service sticker. After that, it went into in a long storage and was later resurrected by Rick McLaughlin at The Trans Am Museum and several years ago, sold to the current owner. How about a look inside the trunk? Out back, the immaculate trunk retains the original mat, jack assembly, both original pouches for the T-tops and a custom car cover! Let’s have a peak under the hood… …and you'll find this Pontiac's all-original 301T engine. This is an original, numbers matching drive train. Everything of course is factory correct. Without going into too much detail, a 1-inch stack of receipts will be included for the new owner detailing meticulous maintenance with no expense spared to keep this Firebird in top mechanical condition. Recently, a major engine service was performed by the experts at Superior Automotive Engineering in Placentia CA, the owner’s SoCal mechanic’s shop of choice. Master Mechanic "Joe" installed a new turbo charger and performed anything and everything to make this car 100% in every way. All receipts included. In short, this 'Bird is as fit mechanically as it is cosmetically. Drivability: Driving this collectible ‘bird truly is an unforgettable, uniquely pleasurable experience. Its low mileage--the car has covered less than 2,000 miles annually, on average--certainly provides an extra dimension of satisfaction: there are no squeaks or rattles; this T/A feels as solid as a rock! The car runs, drives, handles, and stops flawlessly. This turbo runs super strong and displays no ill manners whatsoever--like smoking, oil piddling, or drinking. Docile and fuel friendly around town but the turbo 301 power is there when you need it. All lights, gauges, and switches work and the A/C blows Ice Cold. Despite its age, the car can easily be driven across the country - if that is where you live. Here's your chance to acquire a highly collectable, all-original, pristine Trans Am. The Turbo delivers everything its aggressive exterior promises: outstanding and reliable driving pleasures, undiminished prestige, and unlimited appreciation potential. Presently, we have a clear, California Title and a Smog Certificate which will be provided to the new owner for transfer. Local sales tax and DMV transfer fees apply to residents in CA.
