Up for sale is a classic 1979 Trans Am with automatic and 403 V8. Its all original other than the rebuilt v8 and does have a newer paint job with original color combo. It runs good. The only things I see wrong with it is it is missing the rear window louver, it has one crack in the dash. and there is a crack in the front windshield. I would give the body 1-10 10 being perfect and 1 being a rust bucket. I would give it a 7. The interior is about a 6 but I think it mostly needs a good cleaning and some door trim could be replaced. As for the mileage that's what the odometer reads and the guy that had it before said it sat for 20+ years in his garage. It is a great solid car and it is priced to sell compared to ones on the market. Sorry for the lighting in the pic that is my garage tonight and it has been pouring rain the last few days. This is a numbers matching Super Duty with a factory correct, and original, 4 speed transmission. It is presented with its original driveline still in tact, engine all the way through to the rear wheels. Pontiac only built 212 4spd cars so you are looking at one very rare Pontiac collector piece. Mileage is believed to be accurate and correct! This Super Duty bird was ordered and delivered from Wilde Pontiac in Waukesha, WI back in 1974. The car was traded back in to the same dealer in 1981 with only 44,000 miles on the clock. The car was then sold to another customer from the dealership later that year and that owner remained the owner up until this past year. The second owner only put 2700 miles on the car so we know that this car has been a trailer queen for the last 3 decades or more. It presents itself as such and is an incredible car all the way around. It is rare that we have a car that is documented as completely as this SD is. We have hundreds of pages of documents, original stickers, build sheets, magazine articles, receipts, and much more that will all be transferred to the new owner. The car has one high quality repaint on the exterior. At the same time the engine and transmission were pulled, rebuilt and repainted. The overhauled engine and driveline went back into the car along with new OEM suspension parts where needed. Great care was taken in keeping the car as original as possible when it was worked on. Adding to the originality, is the fact that this SD still has its original interior and it looks fantastic. The car is incredible and the perfect collector piece. The body is clean and straight as you should expect and can see from the pictures. The panel gaps are as consistent as you will find from this era of birds. The doors, hood, and decklid all line up nicely and lay flush and properly spaced when closed. The paint work is very nice and consistent from panel to panel with excellent color match throughout. The tins show no signs of rust repair. Our digital paint gauge detected dent repairs on the left front fender and the left rear 1/4 panel. The repairs and paint look like new and show no signs of the repair being completed. We note some very minor blemishes down in the lower door jambs (see pics) that can be left alone. The right fender shows a couple very minor paint bubbles, possibly from the clear coat. We also note a light crack near the right front fog light below the bumper, a common issue with these bumpers. We also note the typical upper door jamb corner paint crack, as well as some light bumper paint spidering and light road chips on the front end (see pics). Don't be taken aback, we like to over-disclose our vehicles so there are no surprises. As you can see this car is an absolute stunner and we guarantee you will not be disappointed. It has much less than normal wear as you can see and has spent its recent years in a collection. There are a few touch-ups spots visible but nothing of any size worth addressing. This car is every bit as nice as it looks in the pictures and has been cared for by collectors. Inward, the original interior shows in fantastic condition and includes a rare rear console option. The seats, trim, dash and hardware all show in fantastic condition. We note a minor seam separation in the bottom of the drivers seat which seems to be a common issue on all of these cars. I can easily be repaired without replacing material. The gauges are clear and free from hazing or damage. The headliner is taught and nice as are the carpets, consoles, and all seats. The interior is free from any unwanted odors. The car is optioned with power windows and they work nicely. The original floor mats are with the car and still soft and pliable. The trunk mat looks great and the metals underneath look like new. Mechanically this car is a tough to beat monster. The 455 fires right up and sounds incredible. It idles nice and smooth and sounds amazing at higher RPMS. The clutch is nice and smooth and full of life. The car can grab gears smooth under heavy acceleration and down shifts with easy when cornering. You can truly appreciate the design and engineering behind the Super Duties once you have the pleasure of driving one. It accelerates hard without hesitation and pulls through the RPM's all while tracking nice and straight. The suspension is nice and tight with mostly new bushing throughout. The brakes feel like new and stop the car quickly in a straight line. The car makes no road noise other than the rumble of the big block. This Turbo Pace Car was cherished since the day it was purchased new off the showroom floor at Alpine Buick, Lake Geneva Wi. on November 8, 1980 The Indy 500 race choose the 1980 Turbo Trans Am to pace the race in 1980. This was the first year that the same car paced both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. Pontiac made 5,700 of these cars to replicate the car used to pace The Indianapolis 500. The were similar to the 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am in the paint scheme. The Pace Car had white lower body paint with charcoal upper body paint offset by a tri-color body accent stripes. The decals used were now the larger 5-color turbo hood bird and "Turbo 4.9" on the bulge on the hood designed to accommodate the turbo-charger and 3-light system for the turbo-boost. The Indy 500 emblem was located on the side fenders and the rear tail spoilers. The optional door decals or the door decals were an extra option. The interior was a custom Oyster vinyl seats with hobnail inserts and the bird was embroidered on the center of the rear seats and on the door panels. The rest of the interior was an Oyster white with charcoal grey dash and center console. A Special ETR AM/FM Cassette with seek-and-scan features, a digital display, and red dash lights rounded out the interior. The car came with the Turbo-charged 301 motor and was standard with the WS6 handling package set off but the 15x8 inch turbo rims finished in white. The car also came fully equipped with power windows, power locks, A/C, and more. 1980 Turbo Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car A Brief History: Turbo Indy Pace Cars, coded X87, made their debut in 1980 with an asymetrical hood and specially-designed hood graphics. Notes Pontiac, "We wanted to show that form follows function on this car." In 1980, 5,700 of the turbocharged 301 cubic inch Trans Ams where built. The Turbo Trans Am Pace Car's paint scheme is basically white with a charcoal accent color extending from the hood through the door upper, into the front of the sail panel, and through the forward half of the roof. A complete set of special decals were installed on the car. The hood bird was larger than normal and made up of red, charcoal, and gray colors. A large size set of decals was also installed on either door denoting the cars Pace Car status. Silver tinted removable T-top hatch-roof panels and aluminum white "air-flow" wheels are standard equipment. Along with the 4.9-liter 301 turbocharged V-8, a 3.08:1 rear axle and limited slip differential are standard. A three-speed automatic TH-350 was the only transmission available, no 4-speeds were offered on any '80 Trans Am. Powered by a turbocharged 4.9L V-8 engine, the Turbo-Trans Am needed only minor modifications to bring it up to pace car specs. As the turbocharger comes up to higher speed, the turbo's boost is controlled to 9 PSI so the turbo doesn't overboost/detonate the engine. The compression ratio on the turbo is 7.5:1, the horsepower is 210 at 4,000 rpm, and the torque is 345ft./lbs. at 2,000rpm. The 80 Indy Trans Am was one of the LEAST modified cars EVER to pace the indy 500, as they only changed the rear end gears. 64th Indy 500 May 25, 1980 Pace Car Duties: For the first time since it was introduced in 1969, the Pontiac Trans Am was selected as the pace car for the 1980 Indy 500. In fact this was only the second time Pontiac had paced the field at the Brickyard... and it was chosen as the NASCAR pace car for 1980, which included the 22nd annual Daytona 500 stock car race in February. This Trans Am WS 6 only has 7,980 miles. It has always been stored in a heated garage and has been well taken care of. It is a non-smokers car and never in a accident. The transmission is a 4-speed automatic without the dreaded traction control!!! It also has the following up grades just seven months ago - Kenwood flat touch screen radio with USB port and rear speakers, KOOK'S stainless steel 1 7/8" long tube headers with 3" y-pipe (the original tail pipes and mufflers were not replaced) it sounds great and has a lot of torque. The 455 Pontiac Trans Am was history. Chrysler’s 440 big block was checking out for the last time at year’s end and Chevrolet’s 454 was just a truck engine. For those who looked hard, performance was still around. You just had to know your way around the option book. Pontiac for instance, introduced their new high performance engine package in 1977 Trans Ams, Formulas and select Can Ams. It was called the W72 high performance package. What Pontiac did was create a new casting number for their 400 engine block and added some nice pieces to improve the engine. The W72 package engines were cast in Engine Plant 6 and assembled in Pontiac plant 9 which was a state of the art facility with precise machinery. Both were in Michigan. The builders were also trained with the latest in reliability and quality control standards. The engines weren’t hand assembled or blue printed, but they were better than average castings with better tolerances. The W72 engine had satin chrome finish valve covers, used special 350 cid Pontiac cylinder heads with smaller combustion chambers to increase static compression ratio to about 8.2:1. The pistons also received chrome moly for upper compression rings instead of the regular cast iron rings the L78 400s got. W72s had unique camshaft grinds for automatic and manual transmission usage and their own distributor with better vacuum and mechanical advance timings. The oil pump was a 60 psi unit paired with a baffled oil pan to control violent surging against the walls during cornering which could leave the pump dry. The vibration dampner was unique, weighing a bit more than the standard L78 piece. One odd thing about W72 engines is they were all cast during the same one year period at the foundry. It doesn’t matter if your car was a 1979, 1978 or 1977. The W72 engine used was cast between September 1976 and November 1977. The actual casting numbers changed for 1978 but the blocks were all cast at the same time. The unsold castings at the end of 1977 were used for selected 1978 and 1979 W72 cars only. Production totals for W72 Firebirds aren’t accurate for 1978 due to flawed record keeping. It is known that 26,177 Firebirds had the option in 1977. For 1979, the W72 sales are mixed with L78 numbers and 1978 is harder still to figure out due to the bundling of W72 with WS6 suspension package through part of the calendar year. Eventually the W72 engine was made available separately. For a complete up to date accounting of actual W72 figures and more, see John Witzke’s dossier on the package available at 78ta.com website. Witzke is a Pontiac Oakland Club International Judge and is a recognized W72 expert. For 1978, Pontiac improved the W72 by changing the specs on their camshafts. Essentially, they added more duration and added 1:50 ratio rocker arms. The cams were also installed slightly retarded to spread the horsepower across a wider rpm range. In cam tests, the W72 grind was every bit as good as the fabled 067 Pontiac grind. Half way through 1978, the automatic transmission version of the engine was cancelled. In 1979, the W72 was heavily promoted as journalists lined up to test ride the last of the 400 powered Firebirds. Dealers experienced a rush on orders. The Trans Am and Formula bodies were given a facelift that year that carried them successfully to the end of their 12 year run. The new front end eliminated the grille and pushed all radiator ventilation under the one piece molded nose. An air dam and two turn signal lamp grilles fed cool air to the rad. The tail lamp system was given a dramatic black out treatment of the entire bezel under normal operation. When the brake lights went on, the whole deck lit up. It was sensational, flashy and ate light bulbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Tenth Anniversary Trans Am package was produced using a 403 Olds as the base mill and W72 TA motors with four speeds as the top mill. The W72 was the last Pontiac high performance car engine. ???? This option came out in 1977 to help people who were grieving the loss of the 455. With continued refinement it became sort of a legendary late 70's Trans Am feature, and was temporarily combined with and absolutely required on 1977-79 400 4-speed Trans Ams. W72 engines gained a little extra horsepower through higher compression and a different cam. W72 is not an engine code, and cars with W72 engines will have the L78 engine code. This causes a lot of confusion when looking at build sheets. In 1978 the exhaust was also revised. Horsepower was rated at 200 in 1977 and 220 in 1978-79. We have been hired to sell yet another gorgeous vehicle owned by one of our customers in Memphis, TN . This big block monster spent 95% of its life in Dallas Texas with its original owner. It was purchased new from R.O. Evans Pontiac and we still have the original title from the dealer. It traded hands for the first time since new in 2013 when a collector in Spring TX purchased it. Our client bought the car mid 2014 and it has been kept with his collection in Memphis, TN since. Suffice to say it is a 2 owner car, we would almost dare to call it a documented 1 owner. Regardless, the history is right on the titles and it looks fantastic to us. This is believed to be an all original unrestored car car that has survived the test of time parked inside its entire life. 1 of only 4,648 automatic 455s built in ’74. We decoded the vin and trim tag above which further supports our claim that this is an original car. The body is nice and straight and free from rust. The paint appears to be all original and really looks outstanding. It has the usual blemishes in the form of rock chips up front and some drying on the plastic mirrors. We note a small paint run on the right rear quarter panel possibly from a dent repair somewhere along its life. The mild bird decal fade further supports the original paint and looks consistent with the age. Overall this car looks outstanding and really shows like a 40+ year old survivor. The panels all appear to line up nicely and the lines are consistent. The door sag is very good and they close crisply. We note some pillar blemishes (seem to be common on all Birds) as you can see in the pictures. We also note that the front filler panel under the grill has a piece cracked off of it. It does have a dealer installed luggage rack which is quite uncommon but looks nice. The wheels and flares show nicely as you can see. The glass is in good shape and sport a tasteful tint job. We love the originality of this 455 Trans Am. Inward, the interior shows nice and clean and fully intact (aftermarket radio). This car has factory AC and power windows which are nice option. The vinyl looks good and shows a normal seat bottom crack in the passenger side seat (easily repaired). It has some normal panel color fade that could use to be resprayed but is otherwise in excellent condition. The dash looks amazing front he column to the gauges and aluminum dash bezel. The headliner is in need of repair and is sagging pretty good. This is a NON-SMOKER. The carpets look good and are covered with a set of Firebird rubber mats. The dash panel itself looks great, free of cracks and excessive wear or fade. The center console looks fantastic all the way through the shift gate. Inside the trunk area is nice and dry and while it is missing the spare it does have the original mat and jack present. We also note the original decal under the deckled, further supporting its originality. Under the hood sits the numbers matching 455 cid V8. It is backed by a numbers matching drivetrain. It shows a lot of excellent originality under the hood as you can see. We cannot say enough about how well this car runs and drives. It fires up with ease and idles nice and quietly. It revs nicely and is free from smoke or excess noise. We note a minor hesitation under heavy acceleration but we attribute that to not letting it warm up before taking it on a test ride. The car tracks nice and straight and stops the same. The power steering works nicely. The car makes great power through the gears. The transmission shifts properly and feels great. The steering feels nice and tight. The car has new tires on it. This 455 truly is a phenomenal ride. For sale I have a nice 28,600 mile 3.8L V-6 20th Anniversary Indy Turbo Trans am with clear IL title. Original miles and in great overall shape with modified engine. The vehicle for sale is a genuine 2002 Pontiac Trans Am Ws6 with a little over 39K original miles. Before i go into detail about the car i just wanted to share that I am an avid enthusiast of these f-body and am extremely picky when purchasing cars and this vehicle is no exception. As stated above this is the last production year of the Pontiac Trans Am Ws6, this is a authentic Ws6 with the Ram air package(all factory options when first introduced in 2002). It is equipped with a 5.7L Ls1 v8 engine paired with a T56 6-speed manual transmission. The engine itself is in perfect mechanical condition and absolutely stock, oil changed every 2,000 miles with synthetic, only filled with premium fuel and religiously maintained. It is very common to find a lot of these cars built up to ridiculous horsepower figures, but harder and harder to find unmolested stock examples. There are zero internal engine modifications done to this vehicle .The only modification that has been done to the car is the addition of some BMR spring and upgraded adjustable shocks for a more low profile and aggressive handling and the addition of a real SLP air lid and a under drive pulley. It has the 4 stock ws6 speed line chrome wheels that are wrapped in 275 rubber all around, about 80 percent tread on the back and 65 not the front.(will include extra set of NEW 2002 speedilne wheel for buyer). The exterior of the car is done is a beautiful OEM Pewter Metallic, it shines like it just came off the showroom floor and has some beautiful complexity in the sunlight. The car is also equipped with a T-top removable glass roof and a factory hurst shifter option. I purchase this car a little over a year ago with the intentions of using it as my Sunday cruiser, fast forward a year and the car barely gets driven which is a true shame. I live in the midwest so it is always stored before first snowfall in my heated garage and the underbody is rust free. As mentioned before the car was purchased about a year ago from a middle aged gentlemen in Peoria, Illinois who was also quite the pontiac enthusiast who has acquired it from the 1st owners. He had owned it for several years and when not in use it sat inside a Climate controlled 4 car garage.
