This very rare 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Special Edition with the Y84 and WS6 package, it has the Pontiac original window sticker, build sheet, PHS docs, car fax, sales brochure and other docs. Just 9604 turbo Trans Am’s were built for 1980 and 1981. This car was built in California and spent in entire life in great care. Please take time to look at all the pictures.In 1981 the Trans Am was the last of the Trans Am’s starring role in the 1977 Burt Reynolds action-comedy Smokey and the Bandit. This car is nice inside, out, and underneath looks very nice and for being all original, still retains the original exhaust I believe. It has all the original metal on the car and has only one repaint to the rare factory Black and Gold bandit paint colors. It was owned by the previous owner for many years, it has always been a well cared for car. We believe the miles are actual of only 116,000, but we have no other proof of that and will be sold miles exempt because of the age, but does look like it is actual and according to the car fax. The paint is the special edition Black with Gold bird and pin striping, the color combo is stunning. The car has a very nice paint job on it and is very straight down the sides with very minimum showing of age. All decals and trim is nice with a little peeling here and there nothing that takes away from the great looks. Overall the car looks great and can be used and enjoyed as is, have a very rare and very collectible Trans Am with all correct docs and components that will only go up in value. The drive train is all original the 4.9 liter 301ci Turbo motor starts and runs very nice, drives very nice. The car comes with a 3-speed automatic transmission making it very drivable with the stock rear end. Newer raised white letter radials have been mounted on factory correct Pontiac honeycomb wheels. Like everything else, the interior is very nice with new seat covers and carpet. It has Camel Tan bucket seat interior. The car has the factory Power steering and disc brakes, tilt wheel, power windows and locks, power trunk release, cruise control. The Bandit also has the rare factory T-Top roof panels. I believe it has every factory option that was available in 1981. The factory radio is missing. Dash, door panels, carpet, headliner, sun visors, steering wheel, etc, etc everything is nice. This is an extremely original Y84 Special Edition Black and Gold, commonly referred to as the Smokey and the Bandit car. All original components that came on the car are intact except the original radio. This is the 4.9L 301 V-8 Turbo engine with non working R-12 A/C and Auto trans, The car runs and drives well. This was purchased from the original owner of 33 years and has just 64,000 original miles. On the exterior, that has been 1 repaint around 1990. The paint is in glossy #7-8 Condition, and there are a few scratches and blisters. I would give the gold striping, decals and bird a #9 condition.This car has the rare original Gold Turbine wheels, which I believe were 1 or 2 year options only. There is no rust and tires are good. Additionally, this car has the low production glass T top option. The panels are in excellent condition with no scratches. On the interior, I would honestly call it a #7-8 condition, due to a small burn hole in the left rear seat, some stains which I feel could be professionally cleaned and bring the interior to a #9, but it's still very nice. This is the Hob Nob tan colored cloth pattern all original. The highlight of the interior, is the SIGNED Glove Box by BURT REYNOLDS. All of the original gauges and trim are intact and in extremely good condition. Includes: tach and working clock, It has power windows, power locks and power trunk of which all work properly. All of the original "turned" aluminum trim is intact. Carpets are good. The trunk is clean and has the factory compact spare tire and the trunk light still works. 1979 Special Edition Trans Am 400 4 speed car! With only 1107 built. From the 100,000 Trans Am models built for the 1979 year. That means less than 2 percent were Bandit 4 speed cars. Even fewer had the deluxe Hobnail interior and even less were the desired all black. This car also has all of the best options: WS6, A/C, PW, PS, P 4 Wheel Disc Brakes/ Posi-Trac, Map light group. Also included with the car is the PHS packet that proves the pedigree of this rare car! The body is very rust free being a West Coast car. Solid rockers, frame rails, wheel arches, floor boards, etc.) The car seems to have had a basic repaint years ago. The engine in the car is not correct and doesn't run, as it is a 455 YF motor if I remember right. So I sourced the exact W72 4 speed A/C 400 engine from a 1979 Trans Am a complete PWH motor. This comes with the car and is on a pallet at my home. These motors are extremely hard to find as they stockpiled only 8000 motors for the 1979 model year. The good thing is any PWH 1979 motor is date, and vehicle correct. The only non-match would be the motor VIN the rest is absolute 100 percent correct. This engine even has all of the correct parts even the special numbers matching carburetor used for the W72. Engine will need to be refurbished etc. 4 Speed transmission is the original and numbers matching. Overall the car is an easy restoration even the dash is decent.
