“79” Trans Am 403 The Seventies almost wrote off horse power in sport cars because of the federal regulations and two oil embargos, but even as the muscle era dispersed into a vast sea of personal luxury coupes and compact commuters, performance lived on at Pontiac. By mid-decade, it had become apparent that the Trans Am was the sole survivor. Even in the brief period sandwiched between the demise of the Super Duty after 1974 and Burt Reynolds's silver-screen endorsement of the top-tier Firebird, sales of the Trans Am were on the rise; after the world met the Bandit, they exploded. The trend continued for 1979, when the second-generation Firebird concurrently received its last facelift and spent its last year with available 6.6-liter power. Today, the '79 Trans Am models, have become prized among collectors for their combination of styling, power and affordability, which is bolstered by a healthy aftermarket parts supply that keeps them prowling the pavement. The Engine: This engine is the 403-cu.in. V-8 (RPO L80), which had also already seen use in California-bound Trans Ams (and some Formulas) since the 1977 model year and automatic. It features a 4.351 x 3.385-inch bore and stroke, "4A" cast-iron heads with 2.00/1.55-inch intake/exhaust valves, hydraulic lifters and a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, the 7.9:1 compression engine with a rating of 185hp and 315-lbs ft of torque. Trans Ams came equipped with a standard 403-cu in rated for 185hp. It was an incredible bang for the buck in its day which further solidified when contemporary road tests revealed that the Pontiac fell just a few ticks short of the Corvette in acceleration, and actually outperformed the 'Vette in braking by 19 feet. The Car: This car has been well cared for and loved all its life with a clean interior and strong pulling engine. Clean Car Fax and pleasure driven only showing 69,788 miles. Car comes with original owner’s manual, 2 set of keys and car cover. It’s a car that drives incredibly well, starts right up and puts a smile on your face every time you drive it and a head turner with its like new paint and blemish free body. Up for sale is my 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. Ive had it for about 2 years now but can no longer afford to continue to restore it. Car runs very well, I used it as a daily driver for a short time. To the best of my knowledge, it has no major mechanical problems. The paint is only about a year old. There are a couple of small chips in it. Dash is in good shape with no cracks. I have the rear Trans Am decal that goes above the license plate but i have never put it on. There is a kill switch wired into it under the dash. Feel free to email with any questions. Up for auction is my Brewster green 1973 Pontiac Trans Am. One of only 1,420 4-speed cars built. It is powered by the standard 455 engine and is painted the original and desirable code 48 Brewster Green. The options include AM radio, air conditioning, custom trim group, exterior moldings, door edge guards, console, rear speaker, power steering, power brakes and tilt wheel. The engine and transmission are not original to the car, but are the correct model year and date coded. The engine block is a service replacement and has the VIN # stamped. The carburetor, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds are correct. The engine was rebuilt in 2006 and has less than 4K miles. Odometer shows 35,630, but actual mileage in unknown and exempt on the title. The exterior paint shows well but there are stress cracks in the front bumper. Air conditioning and radio are not working. Items that are included with the sale are PHS documents, some owner history and repair receipts. This car runs and drives well. Please NO trade offers. 1997 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 5.7 liter V8 engine: It runs great! Its a lot of fun to drive but if you overdo the gas you will easily fishtail if your not use to the power. Unfortunately, I have 2 vehicles and have just had this car sitting in the drive way. I do turn it on and drive it occasionally. It has new spark plugs and all 4 oxygen sensors new with header extensions due to Pacesetter long tube headers (non-coated). I changed all the rubber hoses for the cooling system a week ago, new water pump, new thermostat. The headlight motors do work sometimes or you can just turn the crank on it and it picks up the headlights.There is a dent to the passenger side rear panel by the door, a dent to the driver side rear panel that can be fixed easily with those suction tool things from Autozone. The paint on the hood is faded. It is the original paint. All locks and handle work. Might be missing Trans Am door decal to passenger side door and the High Performance decal with WS-6 logo in the rear passenger side bumper. Their is also a cutoff attachment i had placed on it when it was without header. No engine modifications done its all original except for headers. The interior could use some sprucing up to the front seats and rear back support seat. The driver side has power seats that still work along with lumbar support functions and tilt functions. I replaced the original cd player with a JVC cd player(aftermarket). The vehicle came with a mulitple cd changer in the truck. Still worked before i changed the cd player. The windshield has cracks and stickers still up to date. Original spare tire and jack in the trunk along with the t-top slot supports for when you want to drive topless. God that is so much fun. The car has no mechanical issues. Unfortunately it wasn't garage kept and has baked in our hot weather down here in Laredo, TX. Tint on the door windows is legal tint. I am selling it as is. You won't find another working as great as this one is.
