The Porsche 356 is a luxury sports car which was first produced by Austrian company Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH (1948-1949), and then by German company Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH (1950-1965). It was Porsche's first production automobile. Earlier cars designed by the Austrian company includes Cisitalia Grand Prix race car, and the Volkswagen Beetle as well as Auto Union Grand Prix cars were designed by the German company. The 356 was a lightweight and nimble-handling rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2-door sports car available in hardtop coupé and open configurations. Engineering innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsports success and popularity. Production started in 1948 at Gmünd, Austria, where approximately 50 cars were built. In 1950 the factory relocated to Zuffenhausen, Germany, and general production of the 356 continued until April 1965, well after the replacement model 911 made its autumn 1963 debut. Of the 76,000 originally produced, approximately half survive. In late 1955, with numerous small but significant changes, the 356A was introduced. Its internal factory designation, "Type 1", gave rise to its nickname "T1" among enthusiasts. In early 1957 a second revision of the 356A was produced, known as Type 2 (or T2). Production of the Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957 and then started to decline. The four-cam "Carrera" engine, initially available only in the Spyder race cars, became an available option starting with the 356A. 1958 Porsche 356A 1600 Cabriolet "NUMBERS MATCHING". The exterior has been repainted the last year to concourse quality. The vehicle has immaculate paint, perfectly straight panels, and outstanding door gaps. All mechanicals have been gone through, and the car runs and drives perfectly. Many of the original components remain in the motor. The interior has the original leather, that has been reconditioned and restored. The dash paint appears to be original paint. The gauges, radio, and steering wheel all appear to be original and un altered. More pictures to come and specific pictures available upon request.

Very similar in styling, it featured a taller windshield, roll up windows and made for a comfortable and more practical everyday driver. For 1960, Porsche introduced the new "T-5" body style and the D was replaced by the Roadster, built by Drauz - The perfect compromise between the iconic sporty lines embodied by the Speedster and the more civilized refinement of the Cabriolet. Bali Blue over Red leather upholstery and carpeting, this particular 356 could very well be considered the ultimate driver's Roadster, well-sorted to casually show or frequently enjoy as-is. The Porsche received a complete professional restoration in years past and has benefited from regular maintenance and sympathetic care throughout the following years. The car displays great cosmetics and mechanical condition, typical of a properly-kept example. Factory optioned equipment include: antenna, cigar lighter, reclining seats, ventilated chrome wheels, electrical clock and 2 loudspeakers among others. The body and brightwork appear uniform and clean. The cabin is equally striking with supple upholstery, correct rubber flooring and period coco mats over flawless Cabriolet tarpaper insulation, proper Blaupunkt radio and working VDO clock. In fact, all electrical components on the vehicle work as intended. A black canvas top provides weather protection. Chrome vented wheels with "Super" hubcaps appear as new, with Michelin XZX tires. Rare yellow Hella fog lights, and Talbot mirrors compliment. Front and Rear compartments are well detailed, with jack, concours correct tool roll with Messko tire guage and spare assembly. The undercarriage is exceptionally nice, including the floor pans and longitudinals. A strong driving example, the Roadster still retains its original number-matching engine, supplying plenty of power to an equally smooth transaxle, resulting in outstanding road manners across the board. This car is well-suited for the true driving enthusiast and would make for an essential addition to any collection. Driver's Manual and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity accompany. With modest numbers of the Roadster produced, opportunities to acquire this rare and practical derivative of 356 are infrequent, and here is a well sorted example of those few. Originally delivered in Shwarz (black) over red interior and delivered new through Glockler Porsche in Frankfurt. 1960 356B Super Electric Sunroof Coupe Only known T5 with a factory installed electric sunroof. Sunroof motor mounted at rear of engine compartment. The sunroof works perfectly and due to the motor location it is the quietest electric sunroof you will ever hear in a 356. 14 Factory installed options including; Full Leather Interior, Electric Antenna, Signal Seek Blaupunkt radio, Chrome Wheels, Hella 128 Fog Lights, Clock, Arm Rests, etc. Leather interior redone by Auto's International. Bare metal repaint with proper single stage German paint. New factory pans were installed by professional welder before I got the car. However it still retains it's original battery pan which is in good condition. New, German wiring harness. Radio rebuilt by Mikes. Signal seek, including sensitivity control on right knob works perfectly. All original gauges work fine except clock which works sporadically. Original tool kit. Very briefly, in late 1959 Knecht put three clips instead of two on the air filter housings along with a large brass plate on each one. This car retains both of those rare, three clip filters. Doors, Hood, deck lid and transaxle are all numbers matching and per COA. Engine is a rare, un-numbered, factory replacement case(No serial number, No case casting number, No type number) built to SC/912 specs with std/std counterweighted crankshaft, 912 rods, 912 wide lob cam, 912 cam followers, 912 heads and 912 valve gear & NPR 86mm pistons and cylinders. New Old Stock OEM muffler. Transaxle built by Nick Federhoff of Competition Motors. Smooth and quiet with great syncros. Nick was an incredible factory trained mechanic who worked in the Porsche factory before he moved to the US in the 60's. This was the last transaxle he built before he died 10 years ago. Rebuilt brakes with new shoes, hoses, wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Four of the five chrome wheels are the date matched originals that came on the car. The chrome on the wheels isn't perfect, but surprisingly nice for over 50 year old wheels. Car is quick. Runs strong to 6200 redline. Drives great. A pleasure to drive. I've owned and enjoyed this car for over 10 years but it's time pass it on to the next person to enjoy. I've owned Porsches for over 40 years and currently have seven, down from eight. It's time to thin the herd down to two. This car was the hardest to decide to sell, but decided to keep the 1968 911S Soft Window Targa and the 1963 356B Cabriolet. Link to 140 high resolution photos http://www.slickpic.com/users/Jsbfot...llpaper&viewer Car was refurbished to be a very nice driver, not concourse. They are only original once and as much as possible was left as it left the factory. Sold as is with no warranty - express or implied. It is a good car that the new owner will enjoy, but like any major purchase, I would urge the new owner to inspect the car prior to agreeing to purchase. Transportation responsibility of buyer, but I will assist with pick-up by transporter.
