800x600 Over $37,500 invested. Appraised at $55 K. Custom-bodied reproduction of the ‘factory-works’ cars that raced at LeMans, The French Grand Prix and the Nürnbergring. Dressed in 1950’s Porsche Racing Silver-Metallic paint with authentic Racing Decals from the 1950’s & 60’s. The custom fiberglass body was hand-laid by an Aerospace Engineer on a computer designed wooden buck to the exact specifications of the original. Built on a heavily reinforced, modified ‘72 VW frame, this sturdy fiberglass body is ¼ to 3/8 inches thick, unlike the 1/8 inch thick bodies of a kit-car. It has ‘All-Original’ 1950’s Porsche Exterior and Interior Trim Bits, Switches & Instruments with an original ‘Quick-fill / Flip-up’ bonnet-mounted Racing Gas Cap and authentic hood tie-down leather straps. It is equipped with 2 original 1955 ‘Ray-Dyot’ Rally-Driving Lights and Stainless Steel Racing Headlight Stone-guards. The aluminum gas tank is a cut down 15 gal. version of the original 30 gal. Race/Rally Gas Tank. And, mounted on the rear engine cover, it sports 2 authentic 1958 German Race / Rally Badges that were awarded to the original participants. Equipped with a Moto-Lita Steering Wheel and a unique German Federal badge Shift knob with a Racing ‘Quick-Shift’ Linkage and 2 new ‘Vintage 1950’s Simpson ‘Quick-Release Heritage Race Approved’ Seat-Belts. Tucked in the front bonnet, the car comes with a complete tool kit and a carry-all with 2 1950’s style Porsche badged Silver Racing Helmets & Racing Goggles along with 2 ‘Safety-Yellow’ Foul-Weather Nylon Hooded Racing Rain Jackets. Also included with the car is a detachable canvas ‘Rain Hood’ convertible top with top bows and side-curtains and 3 custom-fitted Tonneau Covers to keep the cockpit protected when the detachable fiberglass Racing Headrest Faring is in place or when it is removed for the Convertible Speedster Version. The car is very quick! The super-reliable 1915 cc engine was recently rebuilt with large 94mm pistons, 40mm intake-valves and 35mm exhaust valves. It has an Engle W-100 Sport Cam to keep it streetable with ported heads and Dual 40mm carburetors. To prevent the engine from over-heating in hot weather conditions, it has an Under-Body Air Scoop, a 12 Coil Oil-Cooler with Heat-Sensing Fan and a custom Ceramic-Coated, large dia. ‘Magna-Flow’ Merged Race/Rally Exhaust System to help the engine breathe. And, for taking sharp corners at speed, it was given a Full-Flow Oil Pick-up with an oil sump Windage Tray to keep the engine from being oil-starved when taking tight turns. It has a front underbody Air-Dam to hold the nose down at high speeds and a new Racing Suspension with a heavy-duty front Anti-Sway Stabilizer. The car was completed in the late 1990’s and I purchased it in August of 2000 and spent 4 years bringing it up to current specs. I usually put 500 to 600 miles on it each summer. It has only 1800 miles on the recently rebuilt engine and suspension and less than 9,000 miles on the car. Since I’m now in my 70’s I find it hard to get in and out of so I haven’t driven it much these past few years (I just don’t bend as well as I did when I was younger). The car is fantastically quick, very responsive and fun to drive! It can take a sharp 90 degree turn at 50 miles an hour. It also turns a lot of heads and has been pulled over several times by the Highway Patrol who say they ‘just want to look’ at the car. Now that I’m retired, my wife has given me an endless list of home renovations to do and has already spent the money I’ll be getting for the car. The car is in Neenah, Wisconsin, just 40 miles south of Green Bay. For more info, you can contact Michael Patterson at 920-722-2161.
