This auction is for 1 aluminum bodied Prototype "Frankfurt Flyer" Spyder in 2 seat configuration with lowcut "Competition" windscreen. The cars are built in the spirit of post WWII "Aircraft Racers" of Germany, like the early Hanomag, Petermax Muller, Otto Mathe, VW and Porsche Glockler Handbuilt racers. A forgotten era of motorsport where German speed enthusiasts hand-built racing machines from the rubble of their war-torn country. These cars emerged from barns and sheds to the racetrack in the purest form. Chassis #FF005 is the 5th of the Frankfurt Flyer series of 10 (5 Spyder and 5 Coupe) cars. The car is titled as a 1960 Porsche in the state of MN. Mid-Engine power comes from a 1962, Porsche 356 B engine #700419. The engine was built by 356 engine specialist Ray Litz and then pickled for storage many years ago. We tore the engine down for inspection and found everything to be in excellent condition. It runs Solex carbs, a custom ground cam, reworked heads and standard crank, upgraded pistons and cylinders. It also has a full flow oil filtration system with spin on filter. A full build sheet from Competition Engineering is available. The engine is mated to a rare 4 Speed Limited Slip ZF Gearbox. The frame is built in period order utilizing steel tubular ladder type framing with removable roll hoops. The suspension utilizes a height adjustable VW front beam with struts and rear adjustable trailing arm suspension. Braking on the standard build package comes from freshened Porsche Pre A drums, more than adequate to stop a 1300lb mid-engine car. The body is hand hammered aluminum and wheeled to shape by fitting to the tubular Superleggera aluminum buck. The car is entirely hand built in the spirit of a lost era in motoring. The Frankfurt Flyer has been featured on the cover of Octane Magazine (March 2015 Germany), The current cover of the Porsche 356 Registry, STANCEWORKS, CARS YEAH and AutoWeek Articles have also been written in 9 Magazine, MSN Cars UK, RS Magazine, Hoonivers Car of the Year Nominee, MegaDeluxe, Featured on Bring A Trailer and many more. If you're into the late 40's and early 50's racers I think you will thoroughly enjoy my creations. You'll never see another car like yours and this work of art is just as fascinating sitting still as it is climbing inside and hearing the engine roar. The cars are a blast on the track as well. The car is delivered with title, bill of sale and in more stringent State/Country cases I am flexible to accommodate buyers with titling/registration. Being that the running gear is comprised of early VW and Porsche parts, Frankfurt Flyer Chassis #001 (23 car) has been invited to several historic events both in the US and abroad. Please only serious inquiries. Build time for a basic package starts at 6 months. This Porsche chassis is available for an entirely custom body design if you wish. Also note that I offer custom buck building and coachwork for other automobiles or custom one-off projects as well. I will assist in design, buck building and custom coachwork and panel shaping. Inquire for pricing and info. Phone Chris Runge : 320 491 5316 Here are more photos of the build process on past cars: Thank you for all inquiries. As requested, here is an example of another creation from RUNGE KAROSSERIE. The car started life as a one-off SR Class racer in the mid 1960's. Chris Runge designed and hand built the new body shown in this picture. The top is the original car and below, the transformation here at RUNGE KAROSSERIE.
