Please scroll down to see many high resolution photo's. Here is a once in a life time opportunity to own this amazing 1978 300 sd with only 36 k original miles . I purchased the car from the original owners estate. He passed away about 2 years ago. He was from Austria and also a Mercedes mechanic. This car was his baby. It was always stored in a climate controlled garage and shows 100 % rust free. . The Black Paint is stunning and shines like new. It's all Original paint except for the driver's rear door I had re painted do to a scratch that was on the car since 1984 . It looks excellent paint matches 100 % . Otherwise Paint is original and excellent , No checking or cracking and it shines like new. The palamino interior is Stunning. It's as nice as when he purchased it in 1978 . I would say it's still brand new. There is no wear in the seat's , They are very firm when you sit in them and the carpets. door panels ,headliner are all pristine. The wood is also pristine with no cracks whatsoever. The dash is like it was new. Perfect with no cracks . He ordered this car brand new and he was very tall so it does not have a sunroof which gives you a lot of headroom in the car.Inside the car you will find everything to be working properly. The power window's , all the lights are nice and bright in the cluster and switches, and the cruise does work as well but sometimes it doesn't its because it hasn't been used in forever. The radio and power antenna also work perfect. When i brought the car home I serviced it with my dad and we went through the entire car from front to back. Here is what I did. New Battery , new brakes, new brake lines, New valve cover gasket, new fuel lines , new fuel filters, New air filter. The tires are new they are Good year all season . The Ac is also brand new. I converted it to 134 and its ice cold Switch the climate control to heat and its hot. The Servo works perfectly. . New compressor dryer etc. The car starts right up and idles like a watch. It has awesome power and holds the road amazing. Mechanically she is super sound. the suspension is very tight and makes no noises whatsoever. I drove the car from Wi to florida and it drove like a dream. I averaged about 35 mpg and it was very comfortable. The car got a ton of compliments on my way home. People couldn't believe its condition and low miles. I have sold many cars on ebay and also many diesels. I usually would polish the engine compartment but I wanted to leave this car in it's original state, The engine is very clean as you will see and doesn't leak any oil. Underneath the car it's as nice as the outside. There is no rust anywhere and the suspension is nice and clean . The exhaust is also in excellent condition as you will see in the pics. The 116 chasis car is considered the best diesel ever made. The dual bumpers. The low stance and the comfort of the interior truly make this car exceptional in every way. I am pricing it less then you can buy a new honda or nissan or even a New Mercedes C class. This car will outlast all of them and only rise in Value. Calling all collectors! For those of you that have been waiting for the emergence onto the market of that rarest of automotive beasts, the car that seems to have been locked in a time capsule for most of it's life, look no further! It has arrived! This 1980 Mercedes Benz 300SD is just such a car. A splendid combination of faithful maintenance and careful preservation has yielded this example that is about as close as you can get to going back to 1980 and buying one of these from the dealer. Personally, I just cannot get over the condition of this car as I have not seen one this clean and nice since the 80's! Let us begin with the exterior, which admittedly comes the closest to showing the cars age, although nowhere near it's actual 35 years but closer to 5! This always in California car is, as you would expect, totally rust free. The majority of the car is wearing it's factory original paint although I was told that the hood and the front fender were painted at some point afterwards. The color in itself is a rare find. Finished in Mercedes Benz color DB479 (Walnut Brown) which apparently was available only on the 300SD in the model year of 1980, it appears that not many of these were finished in that color and today even fewer have survived. The paint truly looks remarkable from even 5 feet away, but upon super close inspection, there are a number of rock chips, blemishes and scrapes with the worst being what appears to have been a side swipe with a pole done to the driver's side rear wheel well. Still, this paint has held up remarkably well for being as old as it is and it still has a mirror finish, thanks to a recent coat of wax that was applied. The factory original bundt wheels look new. I see no curb rash, no loss of clear coat. The chrome is bright and has no pitting and/or other damage other than a few light scratches to the rear. Now, on to the interior, which is possibly my favorite aspect of this car short of the incredible driving experience to be had. This interior is very, very close to flawless. 98 points on a 100 scorecard all day long in the originality category. The high degree of preservedness first hits you when you open the car door and you catch a whiff of that smell well known to vintage Mercedes collectors: the genuine leather aroma! Yes, this survivor could not be better as it was delivered with ALL factory options including full leather seating in bamboo leather. In those days, they didn't just skimp on the leather and only put it directly on the seat and where your back touches, but generously all the way around the seat frame is this wonderfully patinaed Mercedes leather. With the exception of two minor creases on the driver seat, these seats will make you think IT IS 1980 again. Just perfect. Strong, supple and comfy, they are superb! And the same goes for virtually the entire interior with the headliner, door panels, wood and even the rear package shelf being WAY above average. Very untypical of these models with this type of age, this car's wood is shiny, not faded and without cracks. The dark brown dash is almost perfect, with the exception of a hairline crack alongside the bulge of the top of the instrument cluster. Carpets still have lots of wear left. Now, as mentioned before, this car has all of the very few options that were available in 1980 as this was an "S" class sedan and was given most of the upgrades made available to buyer's at the time as standard equipment. Of the 3 options available, this one has them all: The full leather seating upgrade from the MB Tex, the Becker Mexico cassette radio/tuner with wonderbar feature and perhaps the most sought after option, a full power sunroof. Everything in this car works, including the clock. The Becker Mexico was taken out and sent to the Becker factory in New Jersey for a rebuild and now functions exactly as is should. To give the new buyer the full time capsule experience, I am including a cassette of Abba's greatest hits, which sounds remarkably well played through the Becker Mexico system and the 4 speakers int he car. And as you drive along listening to Abba, you will have no trouble maintaining just the prime temperature in your 300SD as the often troublesome servo unit has also been removed and rebuilt so that the often tricky climate control is a welcome feature to your everyday motoring, functioning properly on all selections as it should. ICE COLD A/C! The main oil cooler hose and other smaller hoses have recently been replaced. Finally, the drive itself. With 149,200 documented miles on a working odometer, this car drives and handles exactly as you would expect and want. There really is not much to say. It starts right up every time, has adequate power even before the turbo kicks in and when it does, you're off! I live in hilly California, and I zoom up the hills to get home 2, 3 or 4 times a day. I can easily keep up with the sea of Priuses that surround me. I purposely over-accelerated past a so called "Smart" car to let her know that elegance and beauty always take precedence over youth! I had no trouble watching her shrink in my rear view mirror. Good riddance!Lastly, I welcome one and all to come , inspect and drive this beautiful machine in person for only then can the true love affair with it begin. Disclaimers! THIS IS A REALLY SOLID CAR, NOT A RUST BUCKET LIKE MANY YOU SEE. TITLE IS CLEAR AND IN MY POSSESSION. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOOKS. THERE ARE MAINTENANCE RECORDS THROUGH 215,000 MILES. RUNS SMOOTH AND QUIET. THE BIGGEST ISSUE I SEE IS THE ONLY POWER WINDOW THAT WORKS IS THE DRIVERS WINDOW, THE REAR RIGHT ONE IS STUCK DOWN, THE OTHERS ARE STUCK IN THE UP POSITION. Beautiful 1982 300SD Turbodiesel Astro Silver Exterior - Black InteriorThis car has been babied during its 33 years of existence. Engine runs strong and should for a lifetime to come. This is the W126 style of Mercedes that holds the record for the longest running car (over 3,000,000 miles!). It is all steel and very safe because of it, easy to work on, and parts are cheap since so many of them are still around (in production from 1979-1991).Here is a list of the thing that have been repaired/replaced-New Battery-New Alternator-New gas line and gas line filter-Wheel Bearings replaced-CD player in Dash (with bluetooth - yippee!)-New thermostat-New Tires-New Monovalve-New Blower Motor Regulator-Some New Vacuum HoseHere are some things that I have the parts for but have not addressed yet-The starter doesn't like to work when it gets really hot (let's face it neither do I). I have a brand new starter but have not put it in yet-I have purchased new fuel injector nozzles, but have not put them in yet. This will make for smoother idling and as they are slightly larger than the original ones, a little more horsepower(vroom)-I have some German Valve wrenches to adjust the valves to OEM specs to allow for easier starts and smoother idling. -I will throw all extra parts in with the purchaseHere is a few other items worth noting-It's an old Diesel, it sounds like a diesel and uses oil like a diesel, but it will get you about 30mpg on the highway. Not bad for a 33 year old 5,000lb car.-It has a half dollar size rust spot on the front passenger door. I have included a picture so you know what you are getting yourself into. There is no rust under the car, or really any where else I can find.-This would be a great candidate for a WVO/SVO conversionThis car is awesome, but my wife tells me that I need fewer projects so this one has to go! This is my baby so take care of it!

I have a 1980 W116 300sd with 211,000 miles on it for sale which i am the third owner of and have owned since November 2011. The engine runs very strong and the car is in good condition for its age and has many new parts. The interior is in EXCELLENT condition with very little wear on the drivers seat and virtually no wear on the other seats or rest of interior but the rear seats could use some replacement springs. No cracks in dash, no rips, no scratches, no cracked wood, nothing. The only small flaw on the interior is an oil stain on the driver side floor mat but its not down to the carpet. The exterior looks good for its age but it does have rot on the rocker panels and inner fenders where most of these cars rust. The engine runs strong but the temperature gauge reads a little higher than normal when under load such as going up long hills and heavy acceleration. The car is nearly all original except that it has a 2.5 inch straight pipe from the turbo back which is loud but nothing obtrusive, other than that its completely stock. I also had the transmission rebuilt two years ago. Message or email me ([email protected]) with any other questions and come test drive car anytime. Car being sold as-is, CASH ONLY with no warranty. 1981 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel VIN: WDBCB20A9BB002265 Here’s another desirable, great-running & driving Mercedes diesel we’ve just acquired for our Ebay customers. This nice 300SD sold new right here in Seattle at Phil Smart Mercedes back in 1981 and has spent its life here in the great Pacific Northwest driving our salt-free roads. It was reluctantly passed it on to us a few weeks ago in hopes finding the next caretaker. From the moment I laid eyes on this nice sedan, it was obvious the car has been treated with respect and care over the years. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Ever driven a Mercedes with the powerful 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine? Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (25+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one great ride? Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. I’ve always considered the W126 chassis cars constructed through the late 1980’s as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard many others say the same thing! Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a nice car this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this 300SD hates rust and there’s nothing to worry about here. Having spent a lifetime in the Seattle area there’s never been any exposure to major corrosion starters. Yes, western Washington State is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. At most we’ll have one or two days of light snow. Everyone panics and stays home hunkered down with a blanket and book. Having personally owned dozens of Mercedes over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the classic MB style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. THIS CAR RUNS OUT JUST FINE. I’VE SPENT ALMOST TWO WEEKS DRIVING IT DAILY AND CAN SAY THERE ARE VERY FEW VINTAGE BENZ’S I’VE LIKED BETTER!! I’m convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive it as well. CONDITION: In total, this is a clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free vehicle. I take great pride in what we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also a few small things needing attention: take literally four or five seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 3.0L inline five diesel engine starts immediately with only few moments of starter cranking! The automatic transmission shifts just as it should with absolutely no slippage. The car idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is supposed to – strong, immediate oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull or perceived alignment or rear differential issues! Over the past week I’ve put on almost 400 miles freeway cruising at 60+ MPH for hours. I’ll bet most viewers of this auction have never seen this rare, special order “English Red” factory paint color! It is all-original and I’d give it an 8.5 out of 10 with only a few scratches here and there. Though I’m no expert, I find no evidence of bodywork or accident repair anywhere. The front fenders, rear quarters, doors and floor pans are all very solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in fine shape for a thirty-four year-old vehicle! Between the rear bumper and the passenger’s side taillight is the one and only corrosion spot I’ve found, probably caused by a ding through the paint many years ago that was allowed to fester. It’s been touched-up to the factory color and is not very noticeable. No other real body flaws to point out, just a few nicks and retouched scratches as pictured. All the glass is good including the windshield. I’ve never encountered Mercedes alloy wheels that were anything but straight and true. These fit that bill and are wrapped with Yokohama 195/70R14 touring radials with at least 80-90% remaining tread all around. Take another good look at my interior shots. Often, you’ll find worn, disintegrating seats in vintage Mercedes. This is NOT the case here. The original Tobacco Brown MB Vinyltex covers (including the rear bench) have held up exceptionally well with no wear-through spots on the bolsters or center inserts and no saggy springs. All door panels are in excellent shape and I’m willing to bet the clean, dark brown carpets have always been protected by floor mats. Both the speedometer and odometer work fine, though the tach can sometimes be intermittent. The heater/defroster system blows warm air when activated and the A/C system has been upgraded to modern R134a refrigerant but could benefit from a recharge in order to blow colder. All four electric windows function properly. You will find NO evidence of cigarette smoke here. As you will find on most vintage Benz, the old Becker stereo has been replaced by a modern unit, in this case a nice Panasonic CD model with a remote. I’m always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of our past buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (we’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive long-distance in this car!
