1979 Mercedes Benz 300SD This 4-door sedan is blue and in excellent condition both interior and exteriorly. There is a sun roof (that needs a little work on seal to open it). Power windows, cruise control, radio, AC and automatic transmission. I had the transmission rebuilt in 2012. The mileage when rebuilt was 37,035 and the current odometer is 37,187. According to Hagerty ratings, this car would be between a 2 and a 3 which is excellent, show-quality condition. I have put less than 2,000 miles total on this since I’ve owned it. The number of diesel 300SDs that were built from 1977 to 1980 numbered 28,600. In spite of lack luster performance, these diesel’s have an exceptional following due to smaller production numbers and characteristic diesel torque and economy. The materials and the build quality of the S-class makes these cars the automotive equivalent of the DC3, adding further to the allure of these stately sedans. I purchased this Mercedes in September of 2008. The car has been stored in a garage when not in use. The person I purchased the car from had restored it. The restoration includes all of the following information. No accident history, all rust removed including the rocker panels replaced, floor boards replaced, firewall repaired, rear quarter panels patched, block sanding and new paint, new undercoating, new grill, new halogen headlights and headlight surrounds, new fog lights, new windshield and molding, new front end steering rod. Driver door molding, new arm rest, new carpeting, new interior door molding, new tail light gaskets. Engine re-sleeved with new rings. One new piston, rod and main bearings, new timing chains, aluminum AC servos with a lifetime warranty. Breaks, brake fluid, coolant, radiator rebuilt. New fuel injection vacuum pull off, new glow plugs, polished valve cover, new battery, new air filter support bracket, recent new tires, new stereo system with woofer and amplifier, dash pad, new speedometer head, new AC compressor, dryer and AC expansion valve (between high and low pressure portions of the AC). I never thought I would sell my flagship Benz. Life intervened. We have enjoyed our trips around Puget Sound, ferry rides, visiting the kids in Bellingham, fall tours across the Cascades to Chelan, driving along the beaches at Ocean Shores and many adventures with the grandkids. Time to pass on the good times to someone who will care for it as we have. It isn't perfect but overall in great condition. It gets about 24 mpg in town - a little better at cruising speeds. We'll leave tools with it, a MB first aid kit, original papers and pamphlets and a custom made (me) platform that fits between the rear seats on the tunnel. We always have a little Christmas wreath on the grille - small frame included. Last of the glorious 126 long body sedans. Very unusual color light green inside and out. Aftermarket Chrome wheels - good-Goodyear- tires. (Original wheels will be included as well as 3 mounted snowtires on older chromes - with a set of the longer studs for them.) Right front fender, lights and hood replaced after fender bender. BEST is the professionally rebuilt engine (see invoice). The original 350s had an engine problem when the displacement was raised from 300 to 350. To remedy that all new rods, head, sleeved cylinders - see invoice - were installed about 50k miles ago. Cost: over $12,000. Original Auto Becker Cassette type radio. New Airconditioning compressor - but air condition does not work - leak somewhere.

Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (25+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one great ride? Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. I’ve always considered the W126 chassis cars constructed through the late 1980’s as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard many others say the same thing! Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a nice car this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this 300SD hates rust and there’s nothing to worry about here. Having spent a lifetime in the Seattle area there’s never been any exposure to major corrosion starters. Yes, western Washington State is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. At most we’ll have one or two days of light snow. Everyone panics and stays home hunkered down with a blanket and book. Having personally owned dozens of Mercedes over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the classic MB style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. THIS CAR RUNS OUT JUST FINE. I’VE SPENT ALMOST TWO WEEKS DRIVING IT DAILY AND CAN SAY THERE ARE VERY FEW VINTAGE BENZ’S I’VE LIKED BETTER!! I’m convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive it as well. CONDITION: In total, this is a clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free vehicle. I take great pride in what we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also a few small things needing attention: take literally four or five seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 3.0L inline five diesel engine starts immediately with only few moments of starter cranking! The automatic transmission shifts just as it should with absolutely no slippage. The car idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is supposed to – strong, immediate oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull or perceived alignment or rear differential issues! Over the past week I’ve put on almost 400 miles freeway cruising at 60+ MPH for hours. I’ll bet most viewers of this auction have never seen this rare, special order “English Red” factory paint color! It is all-original and I’d give it an 8.5 out of 10 with only a few scratches here and there. Though I’m no expert, I find no evidence of bodywork or accident repair anywhere. The front fenders, rear quarters, doors and floor pans are all very solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in fine shape for a thirty-four year-old vehicle! Between the rear bumper and the passenger’s side taillight is the one and only corrosion spot I’ve found, probably caused by a ding through the paint many years ago that was allowed to fester. It’s been touched-up to the factory color and is not very noticeable. No other real body flaws to point out, just a few nicks and retouched scratches as pictured. All the glass is good including the windshield. I’ve never encountered Mercedes alloy wheels that were anything but straight and true. These fit that bill and are wrapped with Yokohama 195/70R14 touring radials with at least 80-90% remaining tread all around. Take another good look at my interior shots. Often, you’ll find worn, disintegrating seats in vintage Mercedes. This is NOT the case here. The original Tobacco Brown MB Vinyltex covers (including the rear bench) have held up exceptionally well with no wear-through spots on the bolsters or center inserts and no saggy springs. All door panels are in excellent shape and I’m willing to bet the clean, dark brown carpets have always been protected by floor mats. Both the speedometer and odometer work fine, though the tach can sometimes be intermittent. The heater/defroster system blows warm air when activated and the A/C system has been upgraded to modern R134a refrigerant but could benefit from a recharge in order to blow colder. All four electric windows function properly. You will find NO evidence of cigarette smoke here. As you will find on most vintage Benz, the old Becker stereo has been replaced by a modern unit, in this case a nice Panasonic CD model with a remote. I’m always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of our past buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (we’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day. This 1991 Mercedes 350SD Turbo Diesel is a must see! We have all the records, mostly highway miles, non-smoker, title in hand, very clean interior, all scheduled maintenance, always garaged, looks and drive great, very well maintained vehicle. Vehicle has woodgrain dash accents and tinted windows. Gets great gas mileage! We are only the second owners of this vehicle. It originally came from Arizona (very dry climate) so there are no rust issues. The car has quite low mileage for a 1991 and this is because the original owners were elderly and did not drive it much before having to go into a nursing home situation. The vehicle was delivered to us by truck and has since been the wife's vehicle. The purchaser must be responsible for the delivery and/or pick-up of this car.
