This 1971 Karmann Ghia Convertible Belonged to My Father-In law.When He bought the Car he decided to do a Restoration and spent close to $9000.00 on Making it a Good Driver Quality car. 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible. Trophy winning show car, garage kept. Clean and well maintained, floor pans are in great condition. There is no rust on this car, no "nose" damage, interior is in good original condition. Driver quality paint job has a few chips, still in good condition. Chrome on bumpers in good condition. This is an excellent condition early 1969 VW Karmann Ghia convertible with the rare Automatic Stickshift transmission. The Ghia drives and shifts flawlessly. This is a solid body car and is originally from southern California where it spent the majority of its life except for the last few years which were in S. Carolina. I purchased the car in 2014 and I had the car totally gone over mechanically including new brake shoes in the rear, new brake master cylinder, new tires, rebuilt engine with new seals including the automatic transmission, replaced all 4 CV joints, got speedometer and odometer working, new convertible top w /headliner and boot, along with some additional maintenance and repairs. It is not the original engine. The horn does not work and the interior dash lights do not work. All exterior lights work correctly - brakes, brights, hazard, parking, license plate, turn signals, back-up, etc. The interior was re-done by a previous owner and it has nice light blue piping. The interior is in excellent condition. The body has been repainted once, as far as we know, and it is in excellent condition. The car is clean and only has a few dings or scrapes. One dent is on the front bumper. These are shown in the photos. The automatic stickshift transmission works fine. It has reverse, low, first and second. There is no clutch. To switch from first to second you just lift off of the gas pedal, shift, then push the gas pedal. When we received the car the speedometer and odometer were not working. They are both working now but the odometer reading is not correct and we have no way of knowing the correct mileage. When we purchased the car the odometer read 47,019 and the previous owner thought she had not put 10,000 miles on it and we probably haven't put 500 miles on it. The clock is working but not keeping perfect time. The vintage Blaupunkt radio is still there, but not working. There is an under dash Blaupunkt radio with a cassette player in the vehicle but the radio stations often don't come in well. It has a new speaker for when the radio stations do come in well or if you are using a cassette. I just got the car the way I wanted it when I found a car that I wanted more! Non-smoking home. 1974 Karmann Ghia Convertible, original rust free car that has been beautifully restored: *Hartz tan canvas top, new headliner.*New tan interior, new door panels, new tan carpets with brown piping; new seat foam on both seats; new seat covers.*New wide white wall tires, new hubcaps and beauty rings, wheels were media blasted and painted silver base coat with 3 coats of clear coat.*Engine removed and new clutch, clutch plate, throw out bearing and flywheel seal; flywheel was resurfaced. New shift bushing. Transmission shifts perfectly in all 4 forward gears and into reverse. Excellent.*Engine was cleaned and degreased, tuned and reinstalled with new muffler and new chrome exhaust tips, engine tin was painted. All hoses were inspected and replaced as necessary. Engine runs perfectly, starts beautifully after it has been sitting for some time, runs cool.*Stunning red paint base coat clear coat, rust free southern car. Body is near perfect showing no accidents, no rust, no bubbles, no blisters. Floors are original and are excellent with no holes, no rust. Paint was recently wet sanded with 3000 grit, polished with 3 levels of compound and then wiped down with 3M Final Inspection. It shines brilliantly.*All lights work: high and low beam, parking lights, turn signals, brake lights; AM radio works; little white map light works on rearview mirror; gas guage works, speedometer/odometer work. Not certain of exact mileage on vehicle. Clock is not hooked up since car sits with battery connected. Windshield wipers work. This Karmann Ghia runs and drives beautifully, steering is tight, brakes are excellent, car steers straight, does not pull, shifts perfectly, and is just really, really fun to drive! 1973 Karmann Ghia Convertible. Complete frame off restoration in 2008. Over 50K in receipts not including labor or original purchase price of car, the receipts stack over 4" tall. Everything was replaced as new. The only thing from 1973 is the body, glass and gauges. Every single nut bolt, piece of plastic, rubber, chrome, engine, transmission, interior, electrical was replace as new. Literally everything. It has 4520 mile since restoration. Driven only to car shows in summer and featured on the cover of Mid America Motorworks Minor flaws are: Convertible top was put on too tight and needs adjustment, A few small scuffs on the face of the dash panel, No heat exchangers, as the new engine chrome was not designed for it. The paint is a 9 out of 10 as it is over 8 years old, But there is no blistering, bubbling or rust anywhere. You can contact me for much more information.

This is a 1971 VW Karmon Giha. As you probably already know, 1971 was the best year for the K-Ghia convertible with its real glass rear window, disc brakes, the classic chrome bumpers with “towel racks” (last year) and smaller tail lights to name just a few. Included in the sale is an extensive dossier on the car with many receipts from the total restoration including full engine rebuild. INTERIORThe interior is in excellent condition. It was restored by the previous owner some years ago, not sure how long ago but it still looks really nice. The seats are a little soft and very comfortable. The faux wood instrument panel is excellent, In addition, the carpets are really nice and the headliner is in great shape as well. It still retains the stock, factory steering wheel and the horn actually works. All the lights work, including the blinkers. The visors are very nice. EXTERIOR The black paint is a repaint and done well but it does have some crazing, I took some close up pictures to show you it’s very bright and very presentable. There is one small spot of rust in the engine compartment on the outside edge were water would collect, I took a picture of it, the pans and all the rest is very nice and rust free MECHANICS:This Karmann Ghia convertible has 84k miles and runs and drives great! It can cruise down the freeway at 60 to 65 MPH all day long! The transmission, clutch and brakes all work as they should. It is simply a joy to drive, especially with the top down. This is a modified 1970 Karmann Ghia, which is a unique, one of a kind car that gets lots of attention and compliments everywhere we take it. It was chopped and turned into a convertible with a roll bar and is now a two-seater. The outer door handles, bumpers, and side windows were removed to drop weight so this car is very light. It has custom vinyl and plastic windows and convertible top that are snapped into place with a button snap system. The top does have some damage as shown in the pictures and should be replaced, but it is useable, although we never drive it with the top on. There is some rust at the bottom of the doors and some goes through, and some rust on the underside of the car, as shown in the pictures. The engine was rebuilt about a year and a half ago and converted from a 1776 to an 1835, with a double barrel 40 Weber single carburetor. It has a manual transmission and when the engine was rebuilt, we also put on a new exhaust, clutch, and brakes. The odometer is not correct so we do not know how many miles the car actually has on it (likely over 100,000). Also, due to an electrical issue, the gas gauge is not currently working. This is NOT a parts car, it runs and drives good and is quick too! We used it as a fun weekend cruising car, and took it to a few car shows, where it got a lot of looks. This is a cool little car and a great project car. If you have any questions about the car, please ask before bidding, as there are NO REFUNDS and the car is being sold AS IS.
