That's because with this 1991 Chevrolet Camaro you're driving a top-of-the-line sportscar, that only gets better with Chevy's top-of-the-line motor. It's not hard to love a Z/28 like this. Either you had one, or envied one at some time in your life. And just like Ray-Ban Aviators, these really never went out of style. There was just something about the sharp-edge styling, and ground effects, that made these the kings of the boulevards in the 1980s and 90s. Of course, the one option you absolutely had to have with these cars was the distinctive 16-inch five-spoke wheels that were redesigned for '91. In fact, this coupe's original metallic red is the perfect hue to highlight the new aggressive bodykit and spoiler that make these later 3rd gen cars so distinctive. Yup, you're looking a true survivor right down to the amazingly preserved paintwork. Inside is a gray and black interior has also been preserved in near perfect condition, so it has that great "let's get to business of driving" appearance. When you slip behind the wheel, you'll feel the high-backed bucket seats giving modern support. They have held up fairly well over nearly a quarter of a century (much better than any other we have seen), and their original condition is highlighted by the "Camaro" stitched into the lower back padding. Like any good Z/28, this one came loaded, including power windows, power locks, tilt steering, and cruise control. There are also provisions for air conditioning. Having a modern classic like this means you even get a factory airbag. In fact, the whole interior looks like its came straight from the Van Nuys, California factory in all areas except one...because this is perfect for cruising, there is the nice modern upgrade to an AM/FM/CD stereo (not surprisingly since nearly everyone went aftermarket in this area). Under the hood is where this Camaro becomes even more desirable. It has the optional L98, 350 cubic-inch, fuel-injected V8 that was shared with the Corvette. This numbers-matching motor was the true performance powerplant from Chevy at the time, and it's one of the first things people look for in collect-ability. This V8 could only be mated to the stout 700R4 four-speed automatic because the motor made too much power for GM's five-speed manual of the day. The overdrive transmission also makes this coupe the perfect cruiser, when pared with the power steering, and front disc brakes. This is a true cherished classic, that has only averaged about 4,000 miles annually since new. Well, with this 2000 Camaro Z/28 ragtop, you also get low mileage twin-turbocharged horsepower, making it one heck of a bargain. The subtle silver paint certainly helps, but this is the kind of car that catches everyone sleeping and absolutely astounds them with its performance. The late fourth generation Camaros were actually pretty polished cars, with an upscale look that was worlds ahead of their bargain-priced performance reputation, and the Z/28 was still the king of the hill in terms of performance. This one shows just 36,425 original miles, and the bodywork is every bit as nice as you'd expect. The paint is quite nice, having been buffed and waxed on a regular basis and by 2000, GM had their paint facilities pretty well dialed-in, so the finish looks great even 15 years later. Of course, you already know that this one has always been a fair-weather driver and never used as daily transportation, and that certainly helps. Things like the chin spoiler, rocker panels, and the hood are all in very good condition with only minor signs of use. Like I said, finding a clean Z/28 at this price is a real score, but this one, well, it offers just a little extra. Like the exterior, the interior is pretty stock, and even with a serious horsepower injection, big modifications weren't necessary here. The high-back buckets still hold you in place and while the driver's seat shows a bit of minor use, everything's in remarkably good shape. Power everything was part of the Z/28 package, so you get power windows, locks, and seats, cruise control, and a fully functional A/C system, all of which is pretty remarkable considering how packed the engine bay is now. For a convertible the soft parts are in excellent shape with no fading or dried-out plastic parts, and the leather-wrapped wheel is easy to grab. A full complement of factory gauges monitor the basics, along with a set of Auto Meter dials on the A-pillar to monitor boost and exhaust gas temperatures, critical for getting the tune just right. Of course, there's a nice-fitting black canvas convertible top that disappears at the touch of a button and while it's not much, there's a trunk out back that'll carry a weekend's worth of luggage. OK, the real deal here is the boosted LS1 powerplant. Sporting a pair of intercooled turbos from INCON, it makes substantially more than the factory-rated 305 horsepower and seemingly endless reserves of torque. The plumbing is remarkably compact, with two new Garrett ball-bearing turbochargers nestled close to the block and fed by a dedicated oil pump system. Upgraded fuel injectors, a 3-inch exhaust system, oversized fuel pump, and a set of custom down pipes, it's remarkable docile and incredibly savage at the same time. The 6-speed manual is upgraded with a Spec 1 clutch, but the rest of the factory driveline is more than up to the challenge of turning all that power into acceleration. The turbos spool online smoothly with a swelling wallop of torque that's irresistible, and even the oversized rubber struggles to put it down in the first three gears. Upgraded sway bars help, as do those big 17-inch Simmons 3-piece wheels, but by the time anyone else spots the upgrades, you're already making full boost and long gone. Giant 275/40/17 front and 315/35/17 rear tires do their best, but there's a lot of power here to manage. An incredible performer with great looks and low mileage, this is the biggest bang for the buck we've ever offered. It has the T-top with headliners, Monsoon Stereo and most of the SLP options (5) counting base alterations. Stainless exhaust, SS badged grill, SS floor mats that have never been used, chromed SS wheels with new BF Goodrich P275/40 ZR17 tires, 2013 date code,installed in Jan. 2014. This SS is 100% stock with no modifications. I recently installed a monsoon stereo (original equipment) with an MP3 adapter in the face plate.
