1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Auto 65,000 Miles Matching Number Drive Train. Original 396 engine with the vin stamped on it. The car was repainted in the early 2000's along with the interior re-done in black. Original paint code is 59. Paint is nice with a straight, solid body. This is a very solid car. Original floors, trunk and quarters. It is an A/C car. Air conditioner compressor was removed many years ago. I have the build sheet stating 396 engine, protect-a-plate, original bill of sale and punch card. I have the original bill of sale from Laurens, S.C. Has always been a southern car. Very nice car inside and out. Car is being sold as-is, where-is. With no warranty written or expressed. Car is also for sale locally. So I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Serious inquiries can call me at 1-828-691-9007 The only reason the car is for sale is because a neighbor sold me a 1970 L78 Chevelle with 35,000 miles. That they had owned since the early 1970's.

For starters, the car must be in tip-top condition. In some instances, determining that is as easy as looking at pictures. But it always helps to have some form of documentation of either a through restoration or serious survivor chops. Speaking of documentation: the more, the better. Ultimately, what we're looking for is anything that can tell the car's story or confirm its exclusivity. The market directly reinforces that exclusivity, as cars of the same quality often sell for close to the same price. Finally, it's always nice to have the hobby's blessing through awards and accolades. By those rules, this fully restored Chevelle, a car the Berger family loaded with 29 additional options, is definitely investment grade. It wraps an original 396/4-speed drivetrain in correct black on red aesthetics that were achieved through a documented rotisserie restoration. Its asking price is right in line with multiple '70 Chevelle convertibles we've already sold. And, since the car spent the last decade winning major awards from AACA, ISCA, MCCN, Chevy Classics and Super Chevy, we're fairly certain it's some of the hobby's most desirable metal! AWARDS Since this Chevelle is one of the most decorated classics we've ever showcased, we'll jump right in to a chronological breakdown of the car's litany of awards and features. 2015:997 out of Super Chevy Chevelle Magazine BODYWORK/TRIM There's no question this highly optioned Chevy benefitted from a world-class restoration. But, given its history, it seems the car was always destined for a touch of greatness. Built in November of 1969 at Leeds Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas, this exclusive drop-top was shipped directly to Berger Chevrolet where it likely became the primary transportation of Vivian Berger, Dale Berger Sr.'s wife. Over the next three decades, the car served four additional owners as a well-preserved survivor. Then, circa 2002, its sixth and most recent owner orchestrated a 3-year, rotisserie restoration that logged roughly 2,400 hours of labor. Laser-straight bodywork, perfected by Piedmont, South Carolina's Chuck Miller's Restorations, wrapped a new hood, new fenders, new quarters and new trunk drops in a correct layer of Tuxedo Black 2-stage. That glossy pigment hangs new stainless and fresh chrome around a nostalgic Berger emblem and clean Super Sport ornamentation. And everything rides under correct Black vinyl that, because of the restorers' obsession with quality, was the third top installed during the car's detailed overhaul. ENGINE Toss this classic's hood and you'll find an original, 396 cubic inch big block that was bored .030 over and fully rebuilt by the professionals at Ewing Automotive Machine in Snellville, Georgia. At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner forces oxygen in to a correct Quadrajet carburetor that was restored by Kunz Automotive of St. Louis, Missouri. That carb rides on a factory intake, which feeds factory heads that hang over a GM-spec cam and GM-spec valves. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, chrome valve covers reflect correct exhaust manifolds. And at the front of the block, GM hoses channel water past an original alternator and correct Frigidaire AC compressor with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. Everything, from the car's original starter and correct Delco battery all the way to its Harrison firewall components and Delco Moraine brake booster, adds a feeling of authenticity to the painted and decaled engine bay. And, as expected, a correct 3969854 casting number, a correct "CTW" assembly stamp and a matching partial VIN authenticate the powerplant's legendary status. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Naturally, this Chevy's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as the aforementioned body panels and engine compartment. Behind the stout big block, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 hangs a correct "70-CF" assembly tag opposite a matching partial VIN. That tough gearbox, rebuilt by Snellville, Georgia's Neal Racing Transmissions, twists power to a correct 12-bolt axle. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a heavy-duty F41 sports suspension, which centers factory power steering between stiff springs, boxed control arms and sturdy sway bars. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brake system is present, accounted for and functions exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases in to precise Gardner pipes, which breathe through correct resonators, throaty mufflers and polished stainless tips. Power meets the pavement through stylish Super Sport wheels, which lap F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around stainless trim rings and requisite "SS" center caps. And mostly original, Satin Black floors, fitted with fresh rear wheelhouses during the car's extensive rebuild, serve as the perfect backdrop for a sandblasted and powdercoated frame. INTERIOR Decked in correct Medium Red vinyl, this convertible's fully restored interior feels comfortable and inviting. Its slick Strato bucket front and rear bench seats, which feature factory power adjustment for the car's driver, show virtually no signs of wear. In front of those seats, an original dash hangs a deluxe Chevelle gauge cluster above correct climate controls and a Delco AM/FM radio. Below that dash, fresh carpet centers a traditional horseshoe shifter inside an attractive, stainless-trimmed console. At the sides of that carpet, clean, "SS" branded door panels frame factory power windows and factory power door locks. In front of the driver, an NOS cushion-grip steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a power-operated trunk centers a stickered spare and correct jack between a fresh mat and correct decklid decals. And even though the Mopar camp does a pretty good job of representing brute force, and the blue oval boys had their fair share of big engine glory, terms like "LS5", "big block" and "Super Sport" are probably some of the first sounds you remember hearing. Thankfully the significance of those terms only grows with time and education, making cars like this impressive LS5-equipped Chevelle all the more desirable. And presently, decked in classic white on black war paint, this award-winning Chevy is the product of an extensive, body-off restoration that fostered a return to factory glory and then some. If you're looking to own one of the world's most sought after muscle cars, this show stopping Super Sport is sorted, polished and ready to please! BODYWORK/TRIM Hailing from GM's acclaimed Kansas City manufacturing facility, this stunning LS5 Super Sport is the beneficiary of a high quality, body-off restoration that's so nice it schools factory survivors. After professional metalwork, which resulted in a straight and solid profile, the car's panels were layered in correct Tuxedo Black basecoat, accented with Classic White rally stripes and sealed in a thick clearcoat shell. Once that clearcoat was allotted sufficient drying time, its surfaces were sanded and buffed into a ripple-free finish that's literally as smooth as glass. And today, this top dog Chevelle sits as a spectacular piece of iconic American muscle that's detailed to better-than-new standards. Many enthusiasts believe the '70 Chevelle introduced a host of excellent refinements that transformed the 'good' design of Chevrolet's '69 model into something 'great'. At the front of this sinister coupe, a familiar crossbar grille hangs a prominent "SS" emblem between a small "CHEVELLE" script, four stainless-trimmed T3s and a fresh chrome bumper. Above that bumper, a functional cowl induction hood anchors rebuilt hide-a-way wipers between new glass, traditional lanyards and pristine stainless trim. At the base of that trim, bright "SS454" badges combine with straight wheel frames, traditional door handles and a flashy chrome mirror to add visual detail to the car's liquid smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second chrome bumper centers a black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a classy "Chevelle by Chevrolet" emblem and spotless stainless exhaust tips. ENGINE In 1970, if you wanted a top-of-the-line Chevelle, you had two options. You could order an LS6 car and put up with a moody, uncivilized big block that didn't like running accessories. Or you could order an LS5 car and have a nicely optioned, well-rounded performer that stomped pretty much anything on the street. Either way you'd have an awesome ride, but the irony of the situation is: LS5 cars are actually RARER than LS6 cars! Rolling out of the factory with an impressive 360 horsepower and massive 500 lb./ft. of torque, this Chevelle's correct LS5 454 is fully rebuilt and ready for show. At the top of the big engine, a functional cowl induction system forces wind into a single-snorkel air cleaner that's cinched to a familiar Quadrajet carburetor. At the sides of that carburetor, mirror-like valve covers loom new Packard TV R Suppression cables above correct heads and fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the back of those manifolds, a traditional points distributor stands between a new wiper motor and fresh Delco Moraine brake booster. Opposite that booster, a shrouded radiator circulates water through new GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And at the side of those clamps, a fresh Delco Energizer jolts a newly rebuilt alternator. Naturally, the car's Satin Black engine bay and Chevy Orange block are highlighted by a series of factory-accurate markings. And all of the engine's belts, hardware and stainless lines are in the kind of excellent, showroom-fresh condition that ensures big points and great performance. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION In case you're wondering, the bottom of this Chevelle is just as clean and correctly restored as its straight body panels and pristine engine bay. The car's rust-free floors are covered in slick Red Oxide. Its fully restored F41 heavy duty suspension, which includes thicker coils, heavy duty shocks, a larger diameter front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar, boxed rear control arms and upper rear cross braces, appears to be in better-than-new condition. Behind the big block, a rugged Muncie Rock Crusher twists power to a 12-bolt, posi-traction rear axle that's built around familiar, 3.31 gears. At the sides of that drivetrain, a chambered, true-dual exhaust system funnels charred dinos through small resonators and spotless stainless tips. At the sides of that exhaust, power front disc and rear drum brakes combine with traditional power steering to provide modern handling ability. At the sides of those brakes, attractive Super Sport wheels spin great looking F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads around clean, "SS" branded center caps. And while this Chevy's specs sound pretty straight forward, the quality of its restoration is simply remarkable! INTERIOR Featuring a host of new components, and decked in what is arguably one of the coolest colors offered for the 1970 model year, this Chevelle's correctly restored GM code 787 Medium Red interior is both inviting and unique. Its slick bench seats are firm to the touch, showing no signs of detrimental wear and tear. In front of those seats, a familiar Super Sport dash hangs deluxe telemetry above a correct Delco radio and new Auto Meter accessory gauges. Below that dash, clean red carpet centers a chrome Muncie shifter between Fisher sills and thick, color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, pick-free door panels align spotless stainless trim and requisite "SS" emblems on bright chrome handles and pliable red armrests. In front of the driver, a simple, "SS" branded steering wheel keeps everything pointed straight. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a full-size spare and correct jack assembly between a new mat and fresh decklid decals. AWARDS Naturally, this pristine Super Sport is the recipient of many distinguished awards. Welcome to my liquidation. This is an 80% restored 1967 Chevelle Malibu that has been upgraded to the max. I have added bucket seats and a center console with automatic shifter on the floor. THIS IS NOT AN SS VEHICLE! I bought the car for $7500 with a 454 engine. I had the engine rebuilt and it was bored out to 502 with estimated to 450-500 horse power. That was another $4000. The car also has a wide cog billet chrome pulley system and an aluminum radiator with added 4 fans to increase cooling ability with this massive engine. I bought new sheet metal for the entire front end, another $3000, and it came with new quarters and new door skins (which I had installed). There is a new front windshield installed. New wiring harness which is currenlty wired to the the engine bay. The car runs and drives. There is no accelerator pedal assembly. New front disc brakes are installed. New tires all around with wider stance in rear. Original interior seats. New instrument cluster (restored) reading "0" miles. Dash is in place. Instrument cluster has not been installed. New professional paint job done prior to obtaining a paint booth and therefore some body panel discoloration. Pain booth is now installed. The car will be repainted to correct this issue during the auction and prior to sale of the car. New bumpers and exterior trim and headlights still in package. The title is a NC title and is completely clear and in my name. No games. I have another $7500 in body work and paint to include new floor pans. New flow master dual exhaust system. Total investment is well over $20,000. My loss is your gain. I invite and encourage in person inspection. I want someone to enjoy completing this project and get a good deal. I have many other projects and will likely be liquidating these as well. Happy bidding!!

You can either spend well into six figures getting one of these stars, or you save enough money for a house and still get this amazing Chevelle, cloned to an SS with big-block power and four on the floor. This coupe has the perfect mix of preservation and restoration. The original Mist Blue paint has been traded in for a more attention grabbing red. What makes this hue particularly impressive is its canvas is a laser straight body with uniform gaps. This one gets the Super Sport touches right, such as chrome side moldings moved from the middle of the car to the lower sills, giving it much cleaner lines and helps accent the sporty Rally wheels. Plus, the black-trim grille, and rear fender badges, just gave these models a nice quiet aggression. This Malibu SS resisted the urge to be modified over the years with ostentatious add-ons. It just has a few subtle bow tie emblems painted to protect from key marks on the door locks. So in total, this one embraces the clean design that delighted new car buyers in the mid-60s with its combination of V8 power, and family car conservative looks. That kind of perseverance makes this one a cherished classic today. Beautiful bucket seats complete with center console are a staple of the '65 SS cars. Having all of this converted from blue to black erased years of use, and also really complements the aggressive red exterior. The factory gauges are in good order, and the SS-specific three-pod setup includes space for the temperature, oil, and battery. The shiny instrument panel has not been messed with, so you still get the placement for the heat/defrost controls and radio. But just below that, a custom panel has been built to allow for the mounting of an AM/FM/CD stereo and auxiliary gauges. So, you can have modern conveniences without ruining the vintage appearance. That big, bold 396 cubic-inch V8 looks right at home under the hood of this Chevelle SS. The block looks dressed for battle in correct Chevy orange paint against the satin black engine bay. Of course what really makes it pop is the set of chrome big block valve covers, and a correct open-element air cleaner with Turbo Jet decals on top. This one has been built to really be driven, with features like the Holley four-barrel carburetor, MSD ignition, and the braided steel hoses. That all gives this one a nice reliable feeling on the road, but let's face it, all you really care about is that people hear you coming with the rumbling dual exhaust. And you'll be able to keep this one screaming for as long as you want because you are in complete control thanks to the Borg Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission. But, the feeling of control doesn't end there. This is a power steering car with grippy Goodyear Eagle GTII tires, and disc brakes up front. So you're looking at a Chevelle that is happy eating up the asphalt, or simply going out for a Saturday night cruise. Fast, fun, and handsome, this red SS will make everyone take notice whether at a car show, or just a stoplight. It's a '65 big block of your dreams, at a much more obtainable price. Build sheets, Protect-O-Plates, Certificates Of Authenticity they're all great to have, but none of them make the car better, tighter or faster. Not to mention, they tend to command a pretty serious premium. If you've dreamed of ripping through the gears in a Chevelle LS6 convertible, but just can't bring yourself to finance a classic that'll spend most of its time in bubble wrap, this brilliant tribute is the perfect alternative. Restored and ready to roll, it looks the part, sounds the part, and best of all, FEELS the part. Want a lot of show AND a whole lot of go? Still your gaze on this stunning A-Body! BODYWORK/TRIM There was no shortage of great color options for the legendary Chevelle, but it's hard to argue the effect Cranberry Red has on the car's sturdy lines. Recently massaged and sprayed, this correct and glossy Chevy looks great decked in black Super Sport top stripes and thoroughly buffed clear. Shut lines are straight all around, with rockers, doors and fenders that work well together. There's a roster of new chrome that complements a correct Black top. Naturally, that impressive appearance is a direct result of a body-off, rotisserie restoration that was completed in 2009 by Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania's Tony's Muscle Cars. And today, the car rolls as one high caliber classic that's clean enough to show and nice enough to drive! ENGINE Although the second-generation Super Sport's ferocious Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Pull this classic's stainless lanyards and you'll find a correct cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, Satin Black frame. At the center of that frame, a correctly decaled, single-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to a correct 4557 Holley, which is threaded onto a 1970-exclusive 3963569 Winters intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through Suppressor High Heat Protection wires. Below those wires, correct exhaust manifolds and old school emissions hardware frame date-correct 3964291 heads. And in front of those heads, GM hoses channel water past a correct fan and rebuilt alternator with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. This past year, the Chevy Orange block, which wears a correct 3963512 casting number behind a matching VIN stamp and March ( C ) 31st (31), 1970 (70) casting date, was professionally overhauled by Drake Engines of Rochester, New York. And everything, from the car's fresh brake booster and Delco-topped battery all the way to its stainless fluid lines and mirrored valve covers, looks much nicer than anything that left GM's factories. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Naturally, this convertible's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as the aforementioned body panels and engine compartment. A traditional coat of Satin Black paint provides a great foundation for a slew of tags, inspection marks and factory-accurate details. Behind the stout big block, a 1970-model Muncie 'Rock Crusher' spins power to a 1970-model 12-bolt axle. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a heavy-duty F41 suspension, which centers factory power steering between stiff springs, boxed control arms and sturdy sway bars. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brake system is present, accounted for and functions exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases in to true-dual pipes, which breathe through Xlerator turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. Power meets the pavement through stylish Super Sport wheels, which lap F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around stainless trim rings and requisite "SS" center caps. And the car's soild floors are coated in correct Oxide Red pigment. INTERIOR Featuring a host of new components, and decked in correct Black vinyl, this convertible's fully restored interior feels comfortable and inviting. Its slick front bucket and rear bench seats, which feature embossed weave patterns that were designed to keep passenger's backs cool, show hardly any signs of wear. In front of those seats, a straight and crack-free dash hangs a deluxe Chevelle gauge cluster above correct climate controls and a Delco AM radio. Below that dash, fresh black carpet centers a chrome Muncie shifter inside an attractive, stainless-trimmed console. At the sides of that carpet, clean door panels hang spotless "SS" emblems between crank windows and manual door locks. In front of the driver, a satin-spoke Chevrolet Rally Wheel keeps everybody pointed in the right direction. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk centers a full-size spare and correct jack between a fresh mat and correct decklid decals. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATIONRestoration photosA receipt for the car's engine overhaulA reproduction window sticker At roughly half the cost and twice the fun of a numbers-matching piece, this killer Chevelle is the total package. With a powerful big block, tough Muncie 4-speed and first class restoration, it's a fully sorted classic that virtually spells the term "bragging rights". This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. With such an original appearance, it's only fitting that this coupe has a street-eating big block under the hood. Add in the right options, and plenty of documentation, and this is an irresistible Super Sport. You've got to love the sleek pillarless coupe body on this SS. You would think that these cars would need big dual stripes on the hood, the hallmarks of most Chevy SS vehicles, but instead this wears the correct white side stripe that emphasizes the gentle arc of the Chevelle's sheetmetal. And let's face it, with a name like LeMans Blue, this paint has no need for racing stripes on the hood. This is not original paint on the car, but instead it has been updated with its 1969-correct color. This means this Chevelle has a much deeper hue than any of its contemporaries that have been around for over 45 years. The chrome on the cars of this year is a bit more understated. They still carry the big bold bumpers that the '60s are famous for, but everything else is used to highlight the aggressive touches, like the rear wheel arches and the bar going across the blacked-out grille. Of course this package wouldn't be complete without the special five-spoke SS wheels. Inside, you see a clean and pristine black bench seat interior, where all the vinyl on the seats and doors still look amazing. The driver gets plenty of goodies. You will rest your left hand on the three-spoke sports steering wheel, and your right one will just always gravitate to the new Hurst shifter. Plus, there's a set of auxiliary gauges, so you always know that's going on in the engine bay. But since this A-body has room to easily carry five more people, you keep everyone comfortable with features like the original heater/defroster, and upgraded AM/FM/cassette player with modern digital tuner. All the horsepower you'll be enjoying is compliments of a thundering 396 cubic-inch L34 big block V8, that's been properly dressed in bright Chevy Orange paint and chrome valve covers. Situated between the satin black fender wells, this classic BBC looks fairly stock, and that's because it almost is. This is a suffix code CE warranty replacement block that was installed in 1969. It gives this car an interesting lineage that is similar to numbers-matching because all work is Chevy official, but it's a much more entertaining story to tell at the car shows. This monster motor breathes nicely thanks to the recent rebuild of the Rochester Quadrajet 750 CFM four-barrel carburetor, and a Dynomax dual exhaust system. All this power reliably gets to the road thanks to the Muncie M21, close-ratio, four-speed manual transmission and the stout 12-bolt rear end. As much as this is a true muscle car, there's plenty of everyday drivability features such as front disc brakes, and modern BF Goodrich tires. This SS big block 396 comes with exactly what you want, including the factory buildsheet, and original bill of sale. The only thing that's left is for someone to step up, and enjoy it as their own. We won't blame you if you skip ahead and just call us now, but everyone else can continue to read the rest of the details on this sweet ride. This is the kind of muscle car the draws attention and makes others jealous. A shiny black Chevelle, with chrome in all the right places like cowl induction hood, extra wide bumpers, and the trim that outlines every inch of glass. Everything else is covered in an intimidating darkness that highlights the super straight body. But just in case some were not taking notice to the midnight hero attitude, Chevrolet left extra hints on every side of the car with special SS 396 badging on the chrome grille and dark rear panel, as well as the bold "Super Sport" script on each rear fender. And of course, no aggressive Chevy is complete without the cool Rally wheel package. The interior is just as imposing as the exterior. The deep black on the seats, doors, carpets, and dash are all products of a good restoration. The buckets are upgraded factory package code 763 when new, which makes them an attention-getter today. This package also gets a center console to frame the bright gearshift, and working clock. The view from the driver's seat is amazing. You get a three-spoke SS sports steering wheel, with its brightness continuing on the factory dash that includes 60s-cool items like the extra wide speedometer and heat/defrost controls. You can tell no expense was spared in here because pretty much no detail was missed. Lift the hood and see that the callouts on the SS badges were certainly not lying. The engine is a 396 cubic-inch big-block Chevy V8. This big, bad motor has most of its components barely broken in, with only 1,000 miles on the engine since its rebuild. It's nicely dressed in a proper coat of Chevy Orange. Plus, it continues with the big-block SS tradition of chrome valve covers and a bright chrome air cleaner. The motor exhales deeply through Hooker competition headers that connect to a FlowMaster dual exhaust. If you look at the undercarriage pictures, you'll notice how fresh this setup looks, and that's because the installation is only a few years old. You can get the most out of this monster motor thanks to a four-speed manual transmission, and it should provide reliable power delivery for years to come thanks to a new Centerforce Performance clutch. Control over this Chevelle is no problem thanks to power steering and sticky Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires. This is an intimidating big-block coupe that has the exact right look, and sound to back it up. You're not the only one who's been looking for a 396 Chevelle SS like this, so we know looking this good, it won't last long in our showroom.
