Its a blank slate to take off in any direction. I just started conversion in October 2015 this month and my other car needs more attention. I haven't removed anything interior wise for weight reduction or any other paneling. Only removed front bumper and radiator part to get access to create EV Kit. When EV Kit installed and inspected, car will be smog check exempt in California and other states. Weight:Car stock with all drivetrain weighs 2700lbs, minus engine/trans 700lbs, is 2000lb car right now. Could go further removing the heavy airbags, interior panels, oem wiring, dash and gauges, heavy leather seats, carpet, and it would save you another 300+ lbs. Not including any other reduction tricks like fiber body parts or Lexan treatments. Normally light cars under 2000lbs are converted to EV, so this ends up being just right or better weight ratio if needed. The Sale:Prefer buyer to come see car in person, otherwise I can take certain pictures and video of things for long distance purchases if needed. Shipping is accepted and I may help load car onto trailer at buyers expense if I have home when it is scheduled. I'm the original owner this car has always been garaged this is the Turbo model so it has a lot of pic-up compared to the standard motor. The leather interior is in great shape no tears or rips very slight discoloration, this car has a factory installed 6 disk CD player, this was my wife's car and has very low mileage as she just used it to commute from work. I just had a brand new Top installed with a lifetime Warranty on the rear window and a 7year Warranty on the labor and materials, it also has a brand new battery with a 3yr Warranty, it also has new Tires with a road hazard lifetime Warranty. The car has a few ware and tear type scratches nothing major no dents or body marks runs great and looks sharp.

Thanks for stopping by to check out this 2001 Volkswagen New Beetle GLX. A clean, top of the line, well kept car, and a nice driving one. With just 55,100 local Tampa Bay Florida miles. Ready to drive and enjoy. Please be patient. There are a lot of photos on this listing so you can see as much of the car as I can show. This is a 2001 Volkswagen New Beetle GLX. Recent trade at an area megastore, I stumbled upon it on my ongoing search for nice older Volvo wagons. Nice and clean and just over 55,000 local miles. Never seen snow and It’s a two owner car here in Tampa Bay. It has a two owner history, and it has just about all of the available options. It has power windows, tilt wheel, cruise control, power locks and sunroof, along with factory 16” alloy wheels. The highest equipment level of any New Beetle. This car shows well and drives very well, and have been driving it on a regular basis as its ez to drive and quite economical to operate. While in my care, it was given a rehabilitation/correction of the common New Beetle issues (see below) and I’d drive it anywhere with zero hesitation. As a VW enthusiast, I see a whole lot of these cars and this is the best ’01 I’ve seen in years. Many of these have been run hard and not well maintained, but this one is different. If you take the time to look at the photos you’ll see that this one is in good order. Read on for more descriptive information Exterior. Silver. One of more upscale colors for this car, you can see that is good looking, with original paint all over the body, Its common for the front bumpers and hoods to be bug marked and the front valance is almost bug/chip free. Just enough minor chips and car wash swirls to confirm its wearing its original body paint and panels. Minor curbing on the wheels, but otherwise straight and true. These wheels are the factory 16 inch wheels that were optional on the lower models in the line, but standard on the GLX. Has matching Firestone tires with 8/32nd tread depth. The Interior. Its all there in its Black Leather interior. No crack dash, clean glove box, clean center cubby, clean overall. The radio is a high end Kenwood. It is functional with single CD, and it has a IPOD cable port, is satellite ready and has the HD tuner included. Door panels are nice and tight, carpet is quite nice and the seats are clean and without rips, tears, or heavy wear, The overall interior condition is that of a car half its age. All of the windows work, the sunroof is functional including the tilt feature and is non leaking, and all of the accessories work as they should. Drivetrain. This is a 1.8 liter Turbocharged 4 with a 5 speed MANUAL TRANSMISSION. Starts right up, idles smooth, shifts well, stops decently, runs cool with good oil pressure. NO SMOKE, no funny smells. All of the controls work, tracks straight and pretty much does all of the things that its supposed to do. The shift it yourself portion of the program changes the character of the car a good bit. First off, it’s a good bit more responsive than the automatic transmission cars. Second, it’s a good bit quicker that the typical Beetle. The fuel economy has been good, an average of 28 mpg while in my care in a mix of suburban use. You might do a little better, as I am a VW enthusiast and have a large right foot. The overall experience is much more pleasant that the average little car. The folks who designed these actually seem to like to drive! Also of note if you are “height advantaged; I’m 6’4”, and its comfortable & there is still headroom. Try THAT in a typical Made in Japan car! I do mostly Volvo, Saab, and VW cars, and those folks are pretty particular so we went over the car’s mechanics pretty closely to make sure it’s a turnkey car for the next owner. Since Beetle seem to come to the market two ways, either used up or well preserved, here is some info on how to tell if it could be a good one….. On the inside….. The door panel inserts often come apart. A good set of original panels is a sign that its been well kept and garaged. These have NOT been redone The plastic trim gets sticky if the car has been heavily smoked in and left in the sun. This one shows minimal wear. VW used a mid quality leather; the seats are often cracked or worn. Not here The glove box doors break. Not this one Moving to the outside…… The hood and front bumper often have lots of “road rash” on them. This one is remarkably clean. The headlights are often cloudy. Here they are clean (they are new) The clearcoat often fails (remember when German cars had paint that would last forever?). This one wears its original paint Under the hood….. If its not been serviced regularly, the engines often sludge up. The one is nice and clean The A/C often does not work as the battery can leak on the controller. This one has 100% functioning A/C and no evidence of leakage Although it came to us in nice condition, its had the following recent work to bring it to a high standard… A fresh battery. For some reason they don’t last long in these cars and the one in the car was almost three years old New cooling fan assembly. One of the motors was noisy, and the replacement units include the fan and the housing along with the motors Passenger side window regulator. Also starting to make noise, so rather than have it fail on you, we replaced it New front struts and struts bushings/bearings. Really common for these to go, and we put OEM manufacturer bushings and bearings as the budget ones just don’t last and for less than $5 a side, using the good stuff is a “no brainer”.New headlamps. The old ones were starting to get cloudy as the lenses are plastic, so we replaced them instead of trying to polish then and have them so funky six months down the road. Torque mount. Really didn’t need it, but they shift so much better with a new one And of course, fresh oil and filter That’s all it needed. The result is a car that is a responsive a pleasant driving car. It all works as it should, heads down the road as it should, and its ready for its new owner. Its got a spare which looks good. Has all of the tools. One key, one remote. Wheels which are the factory alloy wheels round and true. Tires are 205/55/16, the size chosen to provide an accurate speedometer reading. Title in hand. Title shows ACTUAL MILES!!! I’ll be putting a few more miles on it over the next week just to make sure I have not missed anything it needs to be the best it can be so we’ve added a few miles to the listing. Nothing known that has not been described or pictured in the listing that I am aware of. What’s the best part of the car? It does everything its supposed to do. Could I drive this car back home Can’t see why not. The reserve, which WILL NOT BE DISCLOSED, is not unreasonable given the condition of this car. It’s a used car, not an investment in automotive art SO IF YOU ARE REASONABLE, I WILL BE TOO . I try to accurately describe the listed vehicle to the best of my ability, but like you I am human, but assure you that I will not hide any known defects that materially impact the vehicle. Even NEW CARS might need some attention…like the 7 window regulators that have been put on my spouse’s car over the past three years (false economy by the designers), so if you have any doubts, feel free to make arrangements to have the vehicle inspected while its “at the auction” or ask for a copy of the inspection report which I will gladly provide to all bidders. Also, please feel free to contract with an independent concern to have the car third party inspected…I’ll be glad to share my experience with them, but please don’t ask me to recommend one over another…some are better than others…some do an excellent job, some are a waste of time and money. Spending every last dime you have on a used car with an expectation that it will give you faithful service with no additional expenses for the next 10 years probably is not a real good idea, so use your head, spend within your means, and leave a little in reserve for a ‘rainy day’. I try very hard to use objective terms in the listings, and where possible, can provide quantitative data on things that can be measured without taking the car apart, so if you have questions on things like tread depth, compression readings, voltages and the like, feel free to ask and if its possible to provide the data I will. However, please keep in mind that terms like Excellent, Mint, Good, etc. are subjective terms that vary from situation to situation, and from individual to individual, so if in doubt please refer to the photos AND feel free to ask detailed questions. Remember that this is a USED CAR!!!!. While I try my best to make sure each unit has been carefully described, you should be aware that they are not in "as new" condition, except where the addition of new parts has been indicated. There can be undiscovered flaws, but each car has been gone through using a two page checklist, a daily use evaluation (that means I’ve actually driven it, in traffic, just like an owner might use it) , and an overall visual inspection. Cars with built in diagnostics such as OBDII are also read, and identified flaws corrected. Each car has been given a check of all safety systems, all operational controls are functional, and any needed repairs or replacements are performed unless otherwise indicated. Unless otherwise indicated, these cars are being “AS IS”, WITH NO WARRANTY EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. To make things really clear, if its not as described, I’ll bust my butt to make it right before it goes out the door, but if you blow a hose while doing 90 mph 6,000 miles down the road and warp the head ‘cause you decide to make it to the next exit 26 miles south and expect me the pick up the tab, please don’t bother to bid…neither one of us will be happy…. While I do my best to offer the best cars that I can, I am not able to predict the future (If I could, I could see a job at the Federal Reserve...), hence the "no warranty" provision of the transaction. If you feel the need to find a warranty of some sort, there are some excellent providers that can be found on the 'net, along with some not so good ones. I don't offer them since some companies that offer some sort of protection do so at a cost that I don't think is reasonable and offer as "incentive" for the seller as much as 50% of the purchase price! I'm here to offer cars, some interesting parts, and some other auto related items and leave it at that. Here we have a nice little VW with the fantastic little 2.0 liter motor and an automatic transmission, it runs and drives like a top, it would make a great first car for a teenager. It is 15 years old and has a few flaws, but overall a solid little car. The sunroof works great, has a few little dings but overall a solid little bug.
