Hands down without any debate we recommend the Volkswagen 1.8 Turbo over the 2.0L 4-cylinder and/or 2.5L 5 cylinder Beetles. Speak with any Volkswagen tech and you will find they all drive manuals because the VW 5-speed transmission is bullet-proof, gets better gas mileage, less expensive to insure and always a blast to drive. Other driving related considerations for potential female drivers/passengers, the OEM wind blocker device works extremely well and virtually eliminates your hair from being messed up driving with the top down.
