If you are familiar with the story of the MGB GT V8, then you will be impressed with this vehicle. This 1974 MGB GTV8 is built as a tribute to both the effort that Ken Costello exerted in building the first V8 powered MGBs and one of the 7 factory left hand drive V8s imported to the states. Please note the following about this vehicle: · Straight, clean 1974.5 MGB GT built in October 1974 VIN GHD5UE362059G, Commission Number: G23D080735, Body Number: GU23D 00231GP;· Correct 215CI, 3.5L Aluminum V8. The block number is HI305245 which is the 1-year only (62’) 190HP@4,800 rpm 11:1 compression engine. This is the same engine Costello attempted to persuade British Leyland to use in the GT V8. Please note that is fed by an Edelbrock or Holley (?) 600cfm 4 barrel carburetor instead of the factory SU set up;· Factory brass top MGB GTV8 radiator and overflow canister;· Electric fan;· Factory 4spd overdrive transmission with 3rd gear lock out;· 5 correct Dunlop composite alloy factory MGB GT V8 wheels;· New tires (less than 1,000 miles);· Damask Red paint that looks impressive from 3 feet;· As a whole, this is a clean and well appointed interior including black vinyl seats with new foam and coverings (front and rear) mounted over grey carpet with grey headliner. · White Smith gauges;· New interior panels and switches;· Proper MGB GT V8 badging;· Leather wrapped small steering wheel for increased responsiveness;· 4 wheel tube shocks and proper ride height;· All glass and seals are in above average shape and/or have been replaced;· Later model vacuum assist brakes;· New battery;· Former museum vehicle; We would like to point out the following observations: · Passenger front fender has slight cracking in the paint. Does not appear to be “Bondo” cracking. Two small to get a photograph of and cannot be seen from 3 feet. It is there however;· Speedometer works but does not read correctly. I recommend having recalibrated;· Brakes work and are serviceable. I like the feel of non-vacuum, servo style brakes and am not used to the “consistent soft feel” of these. Of 23 MGs I have owned, I have only had one other with these brakes. It was the same way. I am told they are correct. They work, the car stops quickly and in a straight line. I point it out because it is something I would want to address out of preference and we want to be as transparent as possible in representing our vehicles. Overall this is one of the best built V8 MGBs we have come across. It is not a restro-mod. Aside from the carb and intake you have to know what to look for to know it is not a factory car. Car is in exceptional mechanical condition. I just completed a long weekend at the Texas MG gathering in Tyler (car placed 2nd in show) along with several shorter trips. Car runs and drives beautifully. One of the most modern feels of any MG I have owned. I would have no hesitation driving this vehicle anywhere. Feel welcome to contact me. There is no reserve. Please don't ask "what will we take?" We will take the asking price. We are open to other offers and we are going to sell the vehicle to someone who appreciates it. If you would like to buy the vehicle, make an offer and we can dialogue about the price and/or any possible trades you may have. You never know, we might accept your first offer! Please know you will not offend us, however, this is arguably one of the nicest, cleanest, most well appointed factory style V8 MGs to be offered in the recent past. 1974 MGB GT with only 65k original miles This classic is fully sorted and ready to roll - runs and drives excellent. Last year for the coveted and rare GT body style in the US - hard to find in this condition.Full details below. More photos available. Questions and inspections welcomed. Thanks for looking! Operational:This classic really is a treat to drive/own. It starts easy, and settles into a low loping idle. Clutch, shifting, braking and steering are all crisp - no slop or play. Mechanicals:This MG is equipped with its original 1.8 liter I-4 engine, with dual SU carbs. It is backed by a synchromesh 4-speed manual transmission. Disc brakes on all four corners. No noted engine leaks, rattles, smoking...runs smooth and pulls strong. Good oil pressure, and runs cool. Clutch engages cleanly, and at the correct pedal height - easy to drive - very smooth. Shifter feels great - very positive feedback...no slop. Recent tires and exhaust. Accessories:No issues to detract from the experience - all the gauges, blinkers, lights, wipers, horn work as they should. The original AM/FM radio is definitely 'lo-fi', but does work well and adds to the time machine-y experience. The windows go up an down easy, the locks all work smoothly, the seat belts work properly, the seat releases are smooth...even the console vanity light works. This one is ready to hit the road. Exterior:This survivor car has obviously been well-loved all its 40+ years. The body is very straight, and does not exhibit any indication of collision. The body gaps are all pretty good, and doors/hood/hatch all open and close smoothly. The car appears to have had a single respray in it's original shade of Bracken. The paint retains a nice shine and depth, but does have issues under close inspection. There are several notable chips and scratches, and the paint has bubbled in a few spots. I believe the glass is all original - it has a nice subtle tint to it, and has no cracks or delamination anywhere. The wheels and trim are also believed to be all original...they present well, with some expected patina. Interior:The inside of this MG is tidy and inviting. The dash, door panels, headliner and flooring are all original and in good shape, with some minor signs of wear. The seats have been recovered, and feel and look good. The material is very similar to the original, though these are missing the relief stitching and other details. All the original knobs, levers, hinges etc are in place and working like they should. There is one notable ding in the dash in front of the passenger, and there is a small section of the steering wheel wrap that is patched with tape. Extras:This car comes complete with its original spare and jack/tool kit, a matching set of mint original '74 Texas license plates, a car cover, and some under-hood insulation panels (need to be installed).
