This car was a donation and after my purchase DMV said that because I don't hold dealers license it had to be a salvage title but this vehicle has never been in any major accidents. In the late-80s, the heaviest of heavy-hitters was the Mercedes-Benz S-class, with the dramatic 560 SEL long-wheelbase sedan at the very top of the hierarchy. Luxury machines like this very attractive black on black 1989 example could hammer the Autobahn all day at triple-digit speeds, coddling their occupants like no other car in the world. For a car that cost the equivalent of more than $100,000 when it was new, this is a great way to get incredible luxury at an incredible discount. Few cars have a more commanding road presence than an S-class Mercedes, and youll have no trouble cruising through traffic with this handsome sedan. Original paint, and it goes to show you what the best paint in the world can deliver, because it still looks great. Of course, some of that is probably thanks to enthusiastic owners. In typical German fashion, the design is restrained and the clean lines minimize the cars size, but theres no denying that this is a lot of sheetmetal hammering down the road. A few bits of chrome, like the surround for the window opening emphasizes the cars best attributes, and theres just no mistaking the big 3-pointed star up front that moves lesser traffic out of the way like a snow plow. Yes, its 26 years old and there are a few wrinkles here and there, but even a middle-aged Muhammad Ali was still formidable. Inside, the S-class got every luxury and convenience item Mercedes engineers could imagine in 1989. Power tan leather buckets are firm and supportive and in shockingly good condition considering the age and mileage on this heavy cruiser. Gorgeous door panels feature different materials and shapes that helped Mercedes break out of its cold, impersonal interior look, and the burled walnut on the center console warms it up inside nicely. Big, clear instruments are similar to those Mercedes always offered, and theres a massive stereo system. Heated seats, automatic climate control, power windows, and a giant trunk are all included, making this a first-class luxury liner. The 5.6 liter V8 under the hood is one of Mercedes most reliable units, capable of running for hundreds of thousands of miles with little more than basic maintenance. Torquey and smooth, it moves the big sedan with the effortless ease of an electric motor, and the relentless push of torque makes it feel like it could accelerate forever. Beautifully maintained, the engine bay is spotless, from the big aluminum air cleaner lid to all the hoses and wires that comprise what was, at the time, the worlds most technically advanced automobile. Obviously, someone loved this one and the maintenance means that its still bulletproof reliable today. Its the same deal underneath, where theres a 4-speed automatic with syrupy smooth shifts and a fully independent suspension that soaks up bumps like a hovercraft. I've owned this car for almost two years now and adore it! It's durab;e, reliable, and surprisingly affordable to keep running compared to other cars I've owned. For people who have learned from experience to buy all the integrity they can get.” Backgrounder: Originally designed by Bruno Sacco, the Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of flagship vehicles manufactured by the German automotive brand Mercedes Benz. Premiering in September 1979 as the successor to the earlier W116 line, the W126 was the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name referring to Sonderklasse or "special class." The W126 was initially offered in straight-6, V8, and turbo diesel sedan models. In September 1981, 2-door coupe versions (C126) of the W126 were introduced. The W126 S-Class debuted a new Mercedes-Benz design style which was subsequently used on other vehicles in the company's lineup. The W126 line also introduced many Mercedes-Benz safety innovations, including the first seatbelt pretensioners. By 1986-87, the United States economy was doing extremely well, and consumers were spending money freely on luxury items. 1986 was a record sales year for virtually all luxury carmakers foreign and domestic, including Mercedes. Honda’s Acura division was started up with great success, and Lincoln and Cadillac found the most new buyers. Since economy themes in advertising had become passé and power and modern looks had been established, it was time to focus on competitors. But very discreetly. It’s interesting to note how advertisements in the late 1980s took on a more genteel upscale feel to match the good times. Luxury cars were a much easier sell now, so far less data and text was deemed necessary. Traditional large American luxury cars were targeted. The subtle advertising theme was to establish an S-class as a better choice than “overbearing” luxury cars saddled with “bulk and ostentation”. Copywriters may have had Honda’s upstart Acura luxury division in mind when creating the advertising text for 1987. Although Acuras had only been on the market for one year, their success could not be ignored. Readers were reminded of Mercedes-Benz’s 100-year heritage, tradition and pedigree which Acura (or any other Japanese manufacturer) could not possibly match. Tiny 1-liter-engine cars and motorcycles were Honda’s heritage – not very fitting for a luxury brand to tout. Mercedes ads began to feature more close-up pictures of their classic hood ornaments and grilles than ever. “You drive the automobile that pioneered ABS and SRS. But never has pioneered an onboard electronic gizmo”, proclaims a 1988 advertisement. Buyers were still reassured, in classic tradition, that they were buying a car of the highest engineering values. History was also touched on by, “S-class. For people who have learned from experience to buy all the integrity they can get.” And, “…but the greatest comfort of the S-class may ultimately be a purely emotional one; the absolute reassurance of absolute integrity.” Cleverly written, these may have been effective in swaying buyers away from Japanese and other luxury brands. Because when push comes to shove in making a large purchase such as a luxury car, the desire to follow the path of lesser doubt can be a strong one. I am selling our 1986 Mercedes 560SEL. It has been inside a garage all of it life. The car is very clean. The original paint is very nice with 1 or 2 small chips and no dents or rust. The interior is also very clean with only a small tear on the passenger seat. The dash, carpets, door panels and headliner are all perfect. The car has been sitting since 2010 and last week, we had both fuel pumps replaced along with a full service and a new battery installed. Everything on the car works as it should, with the only item needing attention is the front passenger window switch will need to be replaced. The car is on a non operation, so if you are in CA there are no fees due to DMV. If you are out of state, this means nothing to you. I have a clean title in hand. I'm listing the car for my customer. I'm the mechanic. The car has been in her family for a long time. She decided to treat herself to a new E-class. This is the last of the true Benzes. It's built like a tank! Safe and reliable. I have maintained the car for about 12 years. During that time, some of the more significant repairs were made at my Mercedes only repair shop: Throttle actuator, A/C evaporator and condenser, timing chain and guides, transmission frictions and seals, repaint complete exterior, re-dye front and rear seats. The car is very clean inside and out. The car runs and drives excellent. The bad: Closing assist 'suction' for doors and trunk not working (needs assist pump) Rear shocks a little noisier over some bumps with the 18" wheels, we have the original 16" 8-hole wheels with good tires if preferred. The seat leather is a little stiff from the re-dye. We are motivated to find a new home for the car, but please be reasonable with expectations, questions and offers.

1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E VIN # WDBEA36E3NB671972 For sale is a beautiful 1992 Mercedes-Benz W124 500E. The 500E was hand built for Mercedes-Benz by Porsche. Originally, dubbed by automotive journalist as a "Wolf in Sheeps Clothing", the 500E is one of the first in what has now become Mercedes-Benz legendary Super Sports Sedans! This 500E is a two owner, low mileage car with only 99,000 miles! It has never been in an accident or modified. There are not many 500Es like this left! This 500E was purchased by its original owner off the showroom floor of Park Place Motorcars in Dallas, Texas on March 28, 1992. With the only options available on the 500E being a dealer installed phone and CD changer, the out-the-door price was just over $95,000. Accompanying the 500E are extensive service records that document the car’s history from that time forward. The 500E is in excellent condition and will surely please! Click to enlarge This 500E is finished in its original Black Pearl Metallic paint and is rust free. The car has always been garage kept and the black metallic paint is extremely vibrant and looks stunning. All of the rubber seals are still in great shape, the glass is all original, and the car retains all of its original VIN stickers. The 500E wears a like new set of 225/55/16 Michelin tires. The paint is all original with the exception of the left rear quarter panel that was repainted after a parking lot incident with a shopping cart. The repair was completed by the factory authorized Mercedes-Benz body shop in Dallas, Texas. A terrific job was done and is not noticeable, even when told the quarter panel has been repainted. This is documented in the service records. The 500E does have some minor rock chips on the front end and a few minor scratches, none large in size and nothing out of the ordinary for an 99,000 mile car. The hood does has some minor checking, which is common on original paint 500Es. The windshield shows a little pitting and has one small star. The very bottom of the front bumper shows a little wear. I have done my best to photograph all of the blemishes on the car. Overall, the exterior of this 500E is in excellent condition and is truly a rare find! The interior of this car is in superb condition! The 500E retains its original black leather interior that shows very well. The dual power seats are very supportive and show minimal wear on the bolsters, the carpet is in excellent condition, and the dash shows little to no wear at all. The door panels are in very good condition with the only wear being the door pockets are pulling up a little bit. The headliner in in very good condition and it not showing any signs of discoloration, it does say a small amount in the rear. The A/C system is original and still blows cold. The power moon roof and windows operate as they should. The factory radio works as it should with the exception of the dealer installed, when new, CD changer. This car still retains the dealer installed, when new, cell phone mounted in the center console. Overall, the interior is in superb condition. Mechanically the car is exceptionally sound. The M119 5.0L V8 engine fires right up and is a blast to drive! This engine was derived from the 500SL and was rated at 322hp and 354ft-lbs of torque. The engine is mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission that shifts great through all the gears. The cooling system is in great operating condition and keeps the car cool in Arizona’s heat. The steering is very tight and the car handles extremely well. The factory brakes came from the 500SL and feel great while stopping this sports sedan with ease. Overall, this car is mechanically sound and ready to be driven and enjoyed. This 500E is an excellent weekend toy or daily driver.
