The RS America is a limited edition, light weight performance version of the 1993 911 Carrera. The RS America is said to have been inspired by the 1973 Carrera RS which was produced exactly 20 years earlier. With its tuned suspension, bigger wheels, and special seats the RS America was quicker, more nimble, and even more visceral.This RS America is #345 of 701 total produced and began its service life in Hanover, PA. The car was fitted with all 4 factory options - Limited Slip Differential, Electric Sunroof, Air Conditioning, and CR-1 radio. The car retains the original factory, unmodified engine, transmission, brakes, M030 sport suspension package, seats and package shelf. The Black exterior paint is original with one small 1" x .5" blemish which has been touched up above the driver door in the roof panel. The Black interior has been very well cared for and shows new. The RS America is a 3 owner car and has been in Colorado since 2003. There is an extensive service history available with the car. In order to please devoted American 911 enthusiasts who wanted an RS model, Porsche produced the RS America. The RS America was produced as a model year 1993 and 1994 car based on the USA Carrera 2. The cars were offered in standard colors red, black and white and optional colors midnight blue metallic and polar silver. The RS America is a lightened, limited edition, performance version of the venerable Porsche 911 Carrera made for the 1993 model year which according to Porsche both “commemorates the 20th Anniversary of”, and “captures the spirit of” the original 1973 Carrera RS! The RS America featured a distinctive "whale tail" spoiler, a partially stripped interior with flat door panels (from the European RS) and carpeting along with a luggage shelf replacing the rear seats. Cloth covered sports seats, 17 inch wheels and M030 Sports Suspension were fitted as standard. The logo "RS America" was written on the deck lid along with an "RS" logo in front of the rear wheels. Deleted to save weight were power steering, cruise control, powered side mirrors, air-conditioning, sunroof and radio, although the air-conditioning, sunroof and radio as well as a limited slip differential could be ordered as options. The RS America was listed by Porsche as weighing 2,954 pounds, 77 pounds lighter than the weight listed for a stock Carrera 2. The standard USA Carrera 2 brakes, engine and gearbox were used. Thirty one years after the first RennSport, saw the return of the Carrera RS with the 964-generation 911, the first redesigned 911 since 1963. Initially Porsche felt the car’s aggressive tuning was not suited to the American market, but by 1993 Porsche had decided to build a limited amount of US-legal version dubbed RS America. This RS America, assembled on August 21st of 1992 was originally ordered in Polar Silver Metallic which was one of two optional metallic colors available for The RS. The seventeen-inch light alloy Turbo design wheels, are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires that have great tread depth. This Porsche's 964 body and paint are in phenomenal condition for being 23 years old. Interior. The interior of this RS America consists of black leatherette with corduroy inserts with blue seat belts and door straps that came with the Polar Silver exterior. Driver comfort features were initially minimized on the RS, but a few items were offered as options such as AM/FM radio with cassette player, Air conditioner with full climate control, and Electric sliding sunroof which this Porsche all has and function perfectly. The interior condition is astounding and is a perfect example of how well maintained this RS is. Performance. This RS Americas 247Hp 3.6L Flat-six engine mated to the close ratio 5 speed gearbox does not skip a beat and has been religiously serviced throughout its 50k original miles. The neutral handling comes from the M030 Suspension package that was standard on the RS and included Firmer Springs, shocks, a thicker sway bar from the 911 Turbo. The model did offer an option for Limited Slip Differential, but this particular Porsche was built without it. The aluminum Brembo calipers and vented rotors provide exceptional braking power, and were completely serviced at 47k miles. The RS America is a rare and historic model with only 701 units built! This vehicle is 1 of 4 air-cooled Porsches that we were lucky enough to acquire from a truly exceptional car collection owned by one of our customers. This gentleman maintained his cars in absolutely impeccable aesthetic and mechanical condition and mileage was kept quite low as well. The 3 other vehicles available from this collection are a 1996 911 Turbo, a 1991 911 Turbo and a 1989 911 Speedster, please view our other items for more information. The RS America is one of the most enjoyable and exhilarating air-cooled Porsches that we have ever driven. Its exhaust sound, dynamic handling and race inspired pedigree make it an automotive masterpiece that all Porsche enthusiasts should drive at least once. Fred Schwab, former President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) described the car as follows: “If you like to autocross, this is your car. If you are a time-trialer, you need this car. If driving is for fun, this is your car - the car that the Porsche Club of America built.” We couldn’t agree more; this is a pure driver’s car. Unlike the standard Carreras of this model year which had an extensive list of 48 factory options to select from, in the spirit of being a no-frills lighter-weight 911, the RS America had only four options to choose from. This particular vehicle is equipped with all 4 of these options which include: a Limited Slip Differential, a Porsche CR-1 AM/FM digital display stereo cassette with 2 speakers, air conditioning with automatic temperature control and an electric sunroof. The paint on the car is 100% original and it was left completely stock. The vehicle shows very minimal signs of wear both inside and out; its condition is impressive and truly reflects its low mileage and pedigree. There have only been 2 previous owners with each of them having owned it for roughly 11 years. We have the official Porsche certificate of authenticity (COA), as well as the original bill of sale from 1993 and service records. The vehicle is currently on a US title. Owner's manuals and 2 master keys are included. 3M front protection. This is a US-spec vehicle with an impeccable CarFax report and no accidents. More about the RS America… The RS America is a lightened, limited edition, performance version of the Porsche 911 Carrera made for the 1993 model year which according to Porsche both “commemorates the 20th Anniversary of”, and “captures the spirit of” the original 1973 Carrera RS. The original 1973 Carrera RS was available in Europe, but unfortunately not in the USA. Porsche decided to build the 1993 Carrera RS both to European spec and a limited number in compliance with US regulations. These US-spec cars were assigned the name “RS America”. Only 701 units were built, making this a very special car. The intent was to create a basic lightweight, no frills 911 with minimal luxury options. Fitting the RS America with the M030 sport suspension package, which included the use of much of the running gear from the 911 C2 Turbo, led to higher performance limits. The Turbo's progressively wound coil springs, larger diameter front stabilizer bar, and upgraded shock absorbers were standard equipment for the RS America. “Mille Miglia Cup I” wheels were standard for the RS America. All interiors were black with black cord fabric covered sports seats as standard. It was possible to order the seatbelts and webbing door pull-straps color coded to match your cars exterior. The interior door panels comply with the weight saving theme in that they were devoid of the armrest and door pockets that were standard on other Carreras available in 1993. Instead of a complex opening mechanism the RS America simply had a webbing strap in a loop that you pull to open the door. The easiest way to recognize an RS America is that it is the only 964 series 911 fitted with the large fixed rear spoiler or “whaletail” as opposed to the regular 911 C2 or C4's moveable “letter box” type motor-driven spoiler that mechanically deploys and stows depending on vehicle speed. The Porsche fact book for 1993 described it as follows: “The RS America is a new derivative of the Carrera 2 for drivers who demand an even higher level of feedback - feedback so detailed, so precise that it usually is found only in racing cars. Indeed the designator “RS” - German for “Renn Sport” or “Race Sport,” is traditionally reserved for the highest performance Porsches. RS America was a lightened, limited edition, performance version of the venerable Porsche 911 to commemorated the 20th Anniversary and spirit of the original 1973 Carrera RS. According to Porsche Cars North America, as published in the Porsche fact book for 1993:The RS America is a new derivative of the Carrera 2 for drivers who demand an even higher level of feedback - feedback so detailed, so precise that it usually is found only in racing cars. The designation of RS, German for Renn Sport or Race Sport, is traditionally reserved for the highest performance Porsches. In a Porsche RS model, refinements in the suspension, steering, wheels and tires all work in combination with perfectly coordinated weight reduction to create a dramatically different driving feel. This 1993 Porsche 911 964 RS America is a factory white/black example with following options, Limited Slip and Air Conditioning. This is an early production # 96 of the first 100 made. The car is fundamentally stock and looks fantastic with the M030 sport suspension package, which included the factory installed running gear from the 911 C2 Turbo, leading to higher performance limits. The Turbo's progressively wound coil springs, larger diameter front stabilizer bar, and upgraded shock absorbers were also standard equipment for the RS America, as were 17 diameter C2 Turbo wheels. The RSA rims were 7 wide on the front and 8 wide on the rear (as opposed to the 7 wide front and 9 wide rear wheels of the C2 Turbo). Having spent all of it life in the San Francisco Bay Area, the condition reflects that of a consistently well cared for example. An additional bonus is that last 4 owners being were PCA members and it was driven an average of just under 10000 miles per year. Under his ownership and as well as previous owners, careful and consistent maintenance has been the rule in in how this car was cared for. Rebuilt Engine; Our service dept shop foreman has been up and done this engine with a fine-tooth-comb and all indications are that the engine was rebuilt by a reputable shop as every nut and washer is as it should be. Though we without receipts we done know when or who did the work. Moreover cylinder leak down variation was no more that 4% from cylinder to cylinder, which is consistent with a rebuilt engine.(Cylinder Leak down results are 8%, 4%, 6%, 4%, 4%, 6% Compression test also revealed a variation of no more than 3% from cylinder to cylinder with 160-165 on all cylinders. With the above results, Its truly unlikely that of all Porsche engines, that a 964 engine could have over 200k miles on it and not been rebuilt The suspension has been upgraded with shocks, springs, bushings and sway bars. Additional maintenance items have been replace such as windshield, steering rack, wheels refinished, rebuilt brake calipers, serviced axles, new battery. Transmission shifts fine into all gears and clutch feel is great with no slippage or jittering The paint and body is in excellent condition with no evidence of anything more that maintenance type paint work though front bumper was replaced at some point. We found no sign of any major body repairs or frame damage anywhere on or under the car Interior is in fantastic shape with no sun damage, rips or tears in the upholstery. Steering wheel stitching and finish is in excellent shape and dash is near perfect. Winning bidder must contact us within 24 hours of auction end, and make arrangements for payment at that time. The interior door panels comply with the weight saving theme in that they were devoid of the armrest and door pockets that were standard on C2 and C4 911's available in '93. Instead of a complex opening mechanism the RS America simply had a webbing strap in a loop that you pull to open the door. In order to meet type certification requirements in 1993 RS America came with electric windows (the two rocker switches on the driver’s door are visible top right of the panel pictured). The significantly lighter manually cranked windows were not used because the car would need to be re-certified in this configuration which would involve embarking on an expensive and time consuming crash test campaign.
