Up for auction is my 1958 Mercury Monterey convertible. I purchased this car from an estate auction over a year ago. The family had owned this car for 30 years plus. The car was restored years ago and was lovingly cared for and stored every since. Since I bought the car, a new battery was installed, a new rear main, new oil pan gasket, new parking brake cable, a new navy blue convertible top and top motor, and also did new seats. The top and upholstery was done by Angie's Upholstery of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. I have spent near $5000.00 to freshen up the Merc and she looks and runs great. We took it on a 175 mile round trip this past weekend and she preformed wonderfully. This car is equipped with it's numbers matching ( Fords largest y block of the time) a 383 cubic inch V8 with push button automatic transmission. It has power steering and self adjusting power brakes, factory cruiser skirts, working am radio, full wheel covers and wide whites. It has a very striking curb appearance.Odometer shows 98,478 miles which we believe to be accurate but true miles can not be verified. All lights, horn, heater, wipers, radio, speedometer, and gauges work as they are supposed to with the exception of the clock, and the gas gauge bounces around a lot.Original glass is still nice and windows roll up and down as they are supposed to. Stainless is excellent and bumpers are of driver quality and still look good. Paint is very nice and slick and shines beautifully and the interior is very striking with the original dash, door panels, convertible boot and newly upholstered seats. This car is a pleasure to drive and cruises very nicely at 75 mph. Nice rockers and trunk floor and floor pans. Bottom of the car is very clean and has been painted flat black and the frame shiny black. The restoration of this car was a frame off. The dash has had a repair about the size of a quarter and there are 2 scratches on the deck lid that have been touched up. This is a super nice and rare Monterey convertible that is turn key and you can start enjoying right now. You could make a show stopper out of it with a little work but she is nice enough to win awards at any of your local car shows. While this is both my hobby and business I get my information from the same sources as most everyone else. I am told that less than 900 of these convertibles were built but have no documentation to support that. NADA states it's value based on average retail of $34,980.00 and high retail of $65670.00. The only thing I have to go buy which is fact is that earlier this year one sold at Mecum and was advertised as 1 of 844 produced. It was yellow and had a continental kit. It was also advertised as needing mechanical maintenance, car has not been driven and fuel system maintenance needed. It sold for $45,000.00 plus buyers premium. You won't need to pay near that for this car and it runs just fine. Until it hit's reserve we are open to good offers and no buyers premium here.
