Up for your consideration is my 1963 Thunderbird. Being from a dry climate, there is ABSOLUTELY NO RUST underneath. No heavy rubberized undercoating, just nice original good Ford tin. Paint has NO ORANGE PEEL, was re-sprayed decades ago and is holding up very well, it looks GREAT! Engine is a smooth running 390 4 barrel that pulls strongly with a crisp shifting Cruise-O-Matic transmission. Tires are newer radials with no cracks and good tread. Wheels have been painted and full baby moons have been installed. Original wire caps included, but they rub on the fender skirts. Interior looks like new. It may be a reproduction, or an amazing original showing little signs of wear. No cracks in the dash pad. It goes down the road just fine with no pulling or funny noises, and the 4 wheel power drum brakes stop this rolling sculpture with ease. All ball joints and steering professionally inspected and reported to be in very good condition. Equipped with dual exhaust with pitch-perfect mufflers terminating with chrome exhaust tips. Chrome bumpers look great, they may have been re-chromed, as they shimmer in the California Sun. The stainless trim gleams. Plastic lenses are nice, no cracks. Rubber weatherstripping looks good, not dry. Doors close securely and easily, no sagging or sprung hinges. Windows crank up and down smoothly. Radio is a Kenwood CD with 4 speakers. Original AM radio is included. Trunk is covered in original carpet. Door sills look great, carpets are in great shape, may be nice original, possibly replaced. >Recent Interstate battery and new electronic voltage regulator >Electronic ignition (hidden) & HO coil, Ign wires, plugs, cap & rotor >New fuel tank, and rubber lines >Dash gauges calibrated >New lifters and valve job >New carburetor & fuel pump >New front brake shoes, new front wheel bearings >A/C blows ICE COLD! >Shifter detent plate just installed >All above with receipts. The history of this exceedingly well preserved automobile has been lost to time, but you can still enjoy it buy clicking the Buy It Now button. If you're not local, I will assist the shipper by arranging to meet at an area where it can be loaded onto a transport. Vehicle is available for inspection by you or your mechanic before auction ends. Keep in mind that your purchasing a 54 year old car, and if you expect it to be perfect, maybe you should be looking elsewhere. This is not a restored car, but an amazing preserved specimen that has had necessary upkeep over the years and is ready to be driven home and enjoyed with any minor updates or upgrades as your budget or interest permits. Exact mileage unknown. >For sale locally, as such subject to prior sale. No warranty expressed or implied. Sold AS-IS-Where-Is. Clean California title on hand. >Vehicle located in Cathedral City California, adjacent Palm Springs International Airport, 2 hours east of LA, just a few miles off of I10 Interstate.

You can view more pictures (including pictures of the underside) by following this link. This 1956 Thunderbird was put in our hands to sell for one of our Aston Martin owning customers. We are definitely not TBird experts so please ask questions and let us know if we have made any errors in our listing. Our customer has owned this car for 25 years and the following is his brief description of its known history and present condition: The car was purchased in December, 1989 from the son of the original owner (via a broker) when he lost his garage space due to the recent earthquake. I was told that his father was the owner of Broadway Ford in Oakland and that he purchased the car new upon his retirement. Odometer read about 8751 at the time. I have driven it regularly, but sparingly over the 25 years I have owned it (about 300 miles/yr), mostly within San Francisco. I have maintained and restored various components of the car as needed to keep it in good reliable running order. The car has always been kept in a covered, locked garage. Service records show regular maintenance and upkeep. More significant repairs/restorations include: New canvas top/liner. Transmission re built.Black lacquer paint/rechrome bumpers.Suspension repairs and replacements.Original signal-seeking radio completely overhauled and working properly.New brake booster.Carburetor overhaul.Recent battery replacement.Clock rebuilt but currently not connected.Car has its original working jack.Registration paid up to Nov. 2015. The only things I recall a more fastidious owner might want to have done: Reconnect the clock. Connect the windshield washer liquid bag to foot pump?Car never driven in rain so wipers not used in 25 years. I believe they may be vacuum driven and might need new tubing to move at a faster rate. Now for the bad news- during our inspection process we discovered that the car has a fiberglass right-front fender. The owner of the car had no idea on this and was not even notified of it when he had the car repainted. The fender was obviously fitted at some time while the car was in the original owner's possession. Perhaps an original metal fender was not available at the time, we will never know. Reproduction metal fenders are available currently for about $4,000. In any case this does not affect the driveability or appearance of the car, just its value. In general we would have to call this car a nice presentable driver. The paint is shiny but there are issues here and there with minor cracking, small waves and dings, etc. The worst area is on the right cowl by the windshield where the fiberglass fender must be grafted onto the body. This is shown in the pictures. Chrome is all decent, not perfect. There are some dings in some of the wheel covers. The interior is very presentable, not sure if it is original or not. The rim of the steering wheel is pretty scarred, maybe somebody had big diamond rings, who knows. There are some deep wiper scratches in the windscreen as shown in the pictures. The engine bay appears to be largely correct but could use a thorough detailing and refinishing of a few parts. Being a California car the underside is very dry but there is evidence of some minor rust at the bottoms of the rocker panels and rear fenders. The soft top is present but we have not removed the hard top yet to put it up. The car runs and drives very well. The engine pulls strongly with no untoward noises. The automatic transmission shifts crisply. Steering, suspension, and brakes all seem fine at least in the context of a 1950's American car. Gauges and switches are all operational. We have a file of receipts from the current owner, 1989 to present. This would be a good car for someone who wants a classic TBird driver. The fiberglass fender would be a non-issue when you pulled up to the burger joint or neighborhood car show. With a little bit of work the cosmetics could be improved considerably and if you really wanted to you could fit a metal fender. Again, please let us know if we have left anything out or if you have further questions.
