1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9                             A very well kept 6.9L showing just 66,000 original miles!  A rare, final year example for the USA market representing one of only 576 imported in 1979.  Factory coded 494-California Version provided a rust free life style early in life!  All features remain functional, and drive qualities do not disappoint!  Large with excellent handling, and very fast even considering the overall size!  Hugely expensive when new, comparable to the S-Class of today!  Don’t miss this very desirable, hard to find model! Many automotive manufactures had little help from federal regulators when it can to making horsepower in the mid-1970 into the 1980’s. Stemming from the oil embargo of 1973-1974; fuel consumption, lower emission& highway speeds, along with oil conservation efforts were now all mandated. Apparently over in Germany, Mercedes-Benz didn’t get the memo! They set out to produce the world’s fastest, most powerful sedan. Only available in the USA from 1977 through 1979, the M00 6.9L engine option was exceptional! Its 417 cubic inch displacement was powered by Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, forged crankshaft, connecting rods, & pistons; aluminum heads, sodium filled valves, nitrated intake valve stems, chromed exhaust stems, hydraulic lifters, and a 12-quart dry sump engine lubrication system.   Even with a low 8.0:1 compression ratio, it still managed to produce 250bhp and a massive 360 ft lbs of torque! To put this into perspective in 1979, this meant more power than a Ferrari 308 GTS, Porsche 930 Turbo, Corvette L82, or a Pontiac Trans Am SE. Although this bragging right came with a very hefty price tag meaning MSRP’s breeching $50,000 by 1979! This would be equivalent to about $175,000 in today’s dollars. This also meant very low production totals, and an exceptional opportunity to collect a tremendous piece of Mercedes history!  Only 1,816 were ever imported and just 576 of those found garages in 1979. We are very excited to offer this 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9 Sedan. Finished in its original color of Milan Brown Metallic (404G) over Bamboo Tan interior, this low mileage example has traveled only 66,700 miles from new! Loaded from the factory with M100 6.9L engine, 3-speed automatic transmission, Hydropneumatic Self-Leveling suspension, power windows, central door locking system, Becker Mexico AM/FM/Cassette radio with power antenna, cruise control, power steering, power 4-wheel disc brakes, front fog lamps with rock guards, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, VDO instrumentation, remote chrome mirrors, passenger vanity mirror, heated rear window, 14” light alloy wheels, and rear first aid kit. Our example is truly an excellent survivor featuring all original window glass, perfect undamaged dash, all original seat upholstery & floor carpeting, original owner’s manual, original tool kit, and the factory supplied set of 4 emergency rubber buffers should the suspension system fail.   The trunk retains the spare tire, rubber & carpet mats, and jack. Just recently, the original spark plugs, plug wires, & distributor cap were replaced for the first time. The hood insulator pad, battery, and tires were all installed in 2015. The Euro-style headlamps have been on this car for many years. Built in June 1979, this unit is factory coded with option 494 representing a ‘California Version’ meeting west coast emission demands. It continues to retain a rust free, super solid body & chassis today! A garage kept, well maintained unit without question. All features have proven to work including the air conditioning, factory radio, dash clock, and electric windows & sunroof. A surprisingly fun car to drive for the power, a stellar car riding over the bumps, and amazingly quiet at speed. Please call with questions or offers. Thanks for looking! 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 - VIN 116 036 12 003329 - 148,059 KM European Model. Good older repainted to original color Silver. Very very few paint chips. Rustfree westcoast car. Interior is black leather, and appears to be original and in good condition. This is an Euro model with the high-power engine. You thought the US models are fast – try a Euro model and you will never want a US model again. This car is an excellent driver, - no trailer queen. Only Euro models can claim the throne as the "Fastest European Sedan". It has 289 horsepower, 39 more than the US version. Too bad we don't have an Autobahn!! Everything is working as of placement of ad. I only say this because on a car that is 37 years old things break, but lately everything has been working for quite a while now. I love this car and drive it all the time. I am loosing garage space, so some toys need to go. Suspension works and stays up. A/C is ice-cold. New stainless steel exhaust. New tune-up. Has Nology HotWires and Silver spark plugs (makes the car run superb). Recent oil change. New hood pad. Over the years, someone changed the bumpers from US style back to Euro style. Also note the Euro head lights. I love the look! Speedo shows 148,059 KM (92,000 miles). It appears the car was imported to the USA in 1985 and had one owner until I bought it. Don't buy a show car and pay way too much. You will feel sick the first time you drive it and you get a scratch. And it will happen. Of course, if you don't drive these cars, they break. They love to be driven and they must be driven. This car gets driven all the time and the car loves it! Things wrong: Left headlight has a stone chip (filled in now). Near drivers left foot, side carpet worn. One bubble on roof near sun roof. Will consider interesting trades, – cars, motorcycles, gold and silver coins.

1977 Mercedes Benz 450SEL VIN: 11603312062484 Here’s another great-running & driving W116 Body Mercedes we’ve acquired for our Ebay customers. From the moment I first laid eyes on this clean sedan, it was obvious that it’s received love and respect. The books and records that came with the car tell a bit about the Mercedes past: It was sold new to a business owner on March 10, 1977 by Smythe European Mercedes in San Jose, CA. The factory warranty booklet and the maintenance book show regular service was done at two European dealers/shops in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara through the mid-eighties. I'll be passing both of these along to the next caretaker along with the original owner’s manual, rare factory engine/chassis "C" catalog, emissions system manual and even the red hang tag that was on the car's turn signal stock in the dealer's showroom. The previous owner took much time and care restoring the vehicle in 2010 and, for the past five years, it was used as his wife and daughters daily driver. Along with the title he gave me a list of replacements/repairs done over that span. These included all-new window and door seals (a big deal if you plan on driving the car in a wet environment), both fog lamps, a new exhaust system including BOTH catalytic converters, new front and rear brakes, tie rods, tires and front-end alignment. Under the hood the water pump and belts were replaced, the radiator was cleaned and tested, new fuel injectors were added, the battery box, battery and wiper solvent pump were replaced. On the interior, he replaced the Vacuum Servo for the heater system (also significant, as these cost about $700). I had my mechanic check over the car. He changed the oil & filter (using Castrol Synthetic) and pronounced it ready. I’ve got to tell you, having driven it several hundred miles since, what a treat! Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability, ease-of-maintenance AND decent economy wrapped up in one great ride? Feel free to contact me with questions or to make an offer before the auction ends. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct phone number is 206/914-1173. You’re encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and take a test drive here at my Auburn warehouse. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Ever spent an afternoon cruising in one of these Mercedes with the powerful 4.5 liter engine? Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too. 1980 was the final year for the vaunted W116 chassis and I’ve always considered these earlier sedans constructed during the 70’s as the last hand-built, truly high-quality Benz with many others saying the same thing! Take a look at the photos and I know you’ll agree with me what a nice find this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Benz hates rust and you WON’T find anything to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are rarely ever salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Having personally owned more than twenty Mercedes over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for their style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. I know you’ll be proud to own and drive it as well. CONDITION: I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible before bidding. Accordingly, here’s a list of what I’ve discovered: Hop in, turn the key (even when starting cold) and the powerful V-8 engine fires right up every time with good oil pressure showing on the gauge, a stong battery and charging system, no overheating, no discernable brake pull felt to either side or alignment issues! The automatic transmission shifts smoothly between all gears, just as it should, with NO slippage. The gun metal gray paint has had one medium-quality re-spray and, though not perfect, is in decent condition; no thin spots or peeling clearcoat. I’d rate it a decent ten-footer with NO evidence of accidents or past body/frame repair. Nice chrome and exterior trim all around as well. The front fenders, doors, rear quarters are all solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is better than what you’d expect on most any 38 year-old car! The factory wheels feel straight and true. They’re wrapped with matching 215/75R14 Hankook “Optima H724” radials all around, each with at least 75-80% tread remaining. Please take another good look at the interior shots. Most folks won’t recognize the front and rear seats are from a later W126-body Benz as they fit the original vibe completely! I think they’re actually superior to what this rig came with from the factory and these front buckets have six-way power adjustment to boot; something you’ll never find on the originals with their always-broken manual handles and stuck height adjusters! There’s no cracked, shrunken or splitting leather here either. The matching rear bench hasn’t suffered the fate of most W116 sedans and still has strong underlayment and great upholstery on both the seat base and back rest. All door panels are in good condition as shown. When refreshing the car, the previous owner installed better-than-factory noise and heat insulation through-out. You’ll love the very large sunroof! Open it year-round and it’s almost like driving a convertible. No movement from the mileage counter, but both the speedometer & tach work perfectly. The dash has two small cracks near the top center as pictured. The heater/defroster system blows warm & cold. There is no air conditioning and the clock has stopped working. The right rear door opens only with the inside handle and the locks work with the key only. On a positive note, all four power windows function as they. It’s a mystery why Daimler has always had difficulty coming up with a quality, long-lasting German stereo for any of their cars. Even modern Mercedes seem to have troublesome factory radios, so it’s not surprising that the original Becker tuner was changed out long ago for a nice Kenwood CD model with a handheld remote. The jack and spare are in the trunk as shown in the photo. I’m always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of my previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day! As a respected Ebay seller with many, many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Benz runs and drives AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up on the car as NO used vehicle is perfect. Having said that, I won’t hesitate to drive long distance in this Mercedes today! Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the car at my Auburn, WA warehouse and take it for a test drive. As always, it is being sold “as-is, where-is” with a clean, free & clear Washington State title. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Please feel free to contact me directly through Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. We can accept PayPal, but if you're going to use it for anything more than the deposit I'll need to send you an invoice first (this way PayPal's system will allow you to cover the entire balance with your credit or debit card if desired). I will ask that the 3.5% fee charged us be added for any amount over the deposit. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the Benz shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We deal with them regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're Ebay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote. Call my designated rep, Brad Simon, directly at (908)290-1575 and be sure to give him my affiliate number (2362642) so he can pull up all our information for door-to-door or even station-to-station price quotes. As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website. You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The Mercedes can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
