Up for auction is a beautifully restored 1974 Ford F350 Tow Truck with a Holmes 440 bed. This wrecker has been in Texas its whole life, having been originally bought new in Kerrville and working in the Central Texas area entirely. I found this truck retired in San Antonio and brought it to Austin for restoration. The truck was originally a 360-2V truck but at some point was upgraded to the current 390-4V engine. The original T-18 4-speed trans is in place with a new LUK clutch. The rear-end has 4.10 gears. Vintage Motorola two-way radio is in place, but just for show. They don’t use those anymore so you wouldn’t be able to talk to anyone, anyway. The power light and transmit light do operate for a realistic feel. The period correct Federal Twin Sonic light bar works perfectly. New paint, newer model seat (from a 1995 F150), all new rubber seals and floor mat. It’s in excellent mechanical condition, always starts right up. It leaks a little PS fluid, otherwise totally solid underneath. PS, PB as original. Every Ford FE motor leaks around the exhaust manifolds eventually, but the gaskets have already been replaced on this one so no leaks. The bed is coated with black bed liner. The boom and winch works (as shown) so you can haul vintage cars and trucks if you like (even comes with J-hooks and chains) but this truck would be an excellent advertisement for your towing company or a parade truck. I always wanted a tow truck since I was a kid. Now in my 50s, I have finally made my dream come true. Now it’s time for someone else to make their dream come true as well, just the hard work is already done. This project began with a Ford F350 4×4 Crew Cab. The body was removed. We basically blended an Extended Cab and the Crew Cab to form what we have termed the “Mega Duty”, not to be confused with the Dodge Mega Cab, as our is considerably larger. We then shortened the bed by approx. 8 1/2?. The truck was then sanded, primed and coated with High Pressure Polyurea Bed Coating, Interior & Exterior. The frame was then cleaned, blasted and repainted with POR15. SafeFloor was installed in the interior. The interior includes custom upholstery with marine vinyl. The exterior includes custom mirrors and Road Armor bumpers. There is 7? of total lift. Dana 60 axles. The engine is a 460 with Banks Headers, Intake, Exhaust and Injectors. Custom sound system professionally installed 2015. Alpine head unit, Alpine marine speakers, 2-amps, and 2-10” JL sub-woofers installed in “hidden” custom under-mount seat box. Custom tool box in the bed of the truck installed 2015. Two 6x9 Polk marine speakers installed in the tool box with 2 recessed CREE LED lights mounted as well. Hide-away Smittybuilt winch in the rear Road Armor bumper along with 2- CREE LED lights mounted in the rear as well. 40” light bar mounted on the front bumper. Truck has low mileage 59,546 on this 460ci engine. Toyo Open Country tires. Good tread with a full spare mounted in the bed of the truck. Dual 17 gal tanks with tank selector in the cab. AC blows cold as your ex’s heart. Much more to add about this vehicle. If you have to ask for permission, hug trees, anti-hunter, find yourself holding a sign at the “Flavor of the Month” protest, metrosexual, momma’s boy, flinch when you hear gunfire, hold your girls purse while at starbucks, hate attention, or hate America…… this truck is not for you. This truck was built in 2012 by the finest rednecks here in Texas. As seen on the TV show “High Tech Rednecks” this truck was built by the crew at Critter Gitters. This truck is as tough as Alan Kay after 56 days Alone in the forest. This truck was built as a workhorse. NO IT WILL NOT SMOKE THE TIRES OFF THE LINE…. But, if you want a reliable powerhouse here it is. If you’re looking for a truck that can take you from the deepest forest to the craziest beach party you’re in luck.
