Well, this 1989 Dodge Ram pickup is 25 years old, which makes it eligible for AACA events, which is really kind of cool. It's also a pleasure to drive with V8 power, a sporty short bed/regular cab profile, and a luxurious interior that's really rather remarkable all by itself. Before the big-rig-inspired Rams hit the market, this was Dodge's mainstay and what handsome trucks they were! The two-tone black and burgundy combination on this particular Ram seems to emphasize its straightforward bodywork and looks so good that we're guessing that it's been repainted at some point in its life. You don't see many early Rams with short beds and that alone makes this one worthy of a closer look, and when you get closer you'll find that it's both very well maintained and still ready to work if needed. The paint shines up well and the trim offers bright contrast and helps make the transition between the colors totally invisible. Chrome bumpers front and rear add an upscale look and with what appears to be a brand new drop-in bed liner, you don't have to worry about putting it to work now and then. And I have to admit, I sure like seeing that Ram hood ornament way out there on the horizon and leading the way. The plush interior is a real contrast to the Ram's working-class reputation and it's totally '80s in every way. The plush velour chairs offer a great deal of comfort and for their age, they're in simply spectacular condition. There's a wide center console between them that's outfitted with real wood, a charming and somewhat rustic look that works well in the Dodge. More wood on the door panels and dash complete the look, and you'll note that this particular truck is loaded with options, including power windows and locks, A/C, a tilt steering column, and cruise control, suggesting that something other than the job site was on the agenda for the first owner. It's very nicely maintained and with a newer Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo in the dash, you could use it as your daily driver and never feel like you're giving up your luxury. Tinted glass and a sliding rear window help with summer comfort. Chrysler's tried-and-true 318 cubic inch V8 provides decent torque and performance for the sporty pickup. Thanks to newly-introduced fuel injection, it's quick to start and makes great V8 sounds while never seeming to work very hard to move the truck around. It's quite stock under the hood and it's been a long time since we've seen one this clean; just check out the air cleaner and inner fenders! Regular maintenance means that it still runs very well and coupled to a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, fuel economy is decent (at least for a full-sized truck). The underside is original but that's not a bad thing when it's as clean and well-maintained as this Dodge, with a recent exhaust system and mostly OEM components. Alloy wheels give it a sporty demeanor, with these wearing 235/75/15 Goodyear Wrangler radials at all four corners. Very affordable and just coming into its own as a collectors' item, this neat Dodge offers practicality and fun in equal measure.
