I"m an ASE master tech and corvair nut. Bought this car on Ebay because it was 3 miles away. I had it towed to my buddy's garage less than a mile from the seller. Now he needs the space and I don't have the time or money to do the car justice. I went over this car with a magnet before bidding. THIS IS A NO RUST BARN FIND! It has been sitting for years in a dry place. The rocker panels, bottom of the windshield, and inside the door jams by the hinges are all solid. No rust on the bottom of any fenders. I tested the floors to see if they were soft, no flexing. Interior is original with no tears. The engine is a 140 HP, but has single carb heads on it. Engine cranks over and has compression. Car has a 4 speed trans and a posi diff. Car comes with a newer set of radial tires and 2 prong hub caps. It looks like the right fender and the front have been replaced. There are welds in the trunk, but nothing visible on the outside. I will rebuild the carbs to help get you started. Car was bought as a salvage car without a title. I have the paper work from the state of NJ to obtain a title. Just need to do a title search for the 5 states that border NJ. This car is ugly,roof torn, windshield cracked, but it's all there.
For parts or restoration. Needs extensive body work. All glass is good, lots of good trim, interior is all there and in decent shape, but needs cleaning. Has recently rebuilt starter. Currently cranks and fires with ether; needs carbs rebuilt and new fuel pump. Gas tank is disconnected (sat for 15 years)--probably needs a new one. Pretty rusty underneath, and lots of Bondo in front and rear. Relatively rare 4-speed. Tires aren't currently holding air. Make an offer.
I have owned this corvair for 15 years..... in that time I have given it a $6500 paint job and within the last few years a rebuilt motor.....rebuilt 4 speed trans....replaced clutch....new top and window ... New clarks interior (seats & carpets).....battery and complete brake job with master cylinder.... This has been my favorite of my collection of classic cars and is always kept in a heated indoor garage.... I could have sold this corvair 2 times in the last month , but I resisted doing so . Now I am definitely relocating and must thin out my collection .. My corvair is a great " head turner" and gets more attention than any of my other cars.... How often do you see a red corvair convertible on the road today ...... Not very often and especially a corvair that looks as sharp as this one!! Of all my collection this corvair is by far the most reliable and I truly believe that It can be driven cross country without any issues. It is just that great of a car !!! The four speed shifts great and the 110 HP motor afford plenty of power and pep , as well as great gas mileage ..... The original radio plays well. . An original 50 yr old tachometer is installed in the. Car , but does not come with the sale of the car.
