The '49 year of Cadillacs is a very collectible year due to the introduction of the Kettering overhead valve engine and push button start on the dashboard. This one is a beauty and a joy to drive. Because of the elegant black PPG finish and extra Series 62 chrome rock guards and rocker panels, it is a real head-turner. These extras were recently rechromed. Not all of the photos show the added chrome. FINISH: There is no cracking, bubbling or any signs of bondo, no chips or road wear. It shines like new. The chrome is in excellent shape except for the rear bumper corner bottoms. There is a rusted through areas that can't be seen easily, but the two corner bottoms will need to be rechromed. Those are the only flaws on the exterior finish. GLASS: The wing windows have some slight delamination. The passenger wing window will not close completely, probably an easy adjustment. UNDERCARRIAGE: The entire undercarriage has been sprayed with POR15. There is no major rust under this Caddy that I can see. TRUNK: Trimmed in wool INTERIOR: Beautiful gray cloth on the seats and gray wool headliner, no flaws. The gray carpets are in excellent shape. OTHER: Sombrero hub caps are original and in excellent shape. Many of the rubber pieces have been replaced where needed. Both Cadillac emblems are in very good shape with no cracking or crazing. DRIVEABILITY: A solid handling classic, this drives down the road straight as an arrow, does not burn oil, and starts well even on cold mornings because of an added electric fuel pump. Everything works, but wipers are intermittent. No power brakes or power steering. You will be proud to own this classy automobile and I will be sad to see it go. (I'm selling my small collection of classics since we are moving and will have no room to store them.) They made fewer Series 61s than Series 62s. A very original Cadillac that runs and drives well. Good rust free California body, very dry underneath. The only rust found is some bubbling at the front fender bottoms as usual. Needs paint, chrome and interior. We sprayed some black on the roof only for protection. Chrome is original and getting old. The front seat has been replaced with a newer electric seat that is fully functional. Original front seat is included, see pictures. No door panels but the important steel top plates are there. The radio is included but has been taken out, see pictures. The car starts easy, the engine seems tight, the transmission shifts well and the car drives well on the road. Not the original air cleaner. It has the original 4 speed automatic transmission. Perfect condition car for the person who is looking for a great car to restore, either to original or custom. This Caddy was restored approximately eight years ago. I have owned it for four years but am moving to a new home with no garage space for the remainder of my collection. I love the look of the Series 62 chrome so have added that to this Series 61. Note that some photos were taken before adding the other chrome pieces. All the chrome is gorgeous except for small rust areas on the lower corners of the rear bumper. All of the glass is original; slight delamination only on the wing window edges. The sombrero hubcaps are original to the car. Original overhead valve V8 engine (first year offered) with 60,000 miles. I believe from talking to the former owner that these are original miles and no rebuild is needed. Self starter, button on dash (first year offered.) Sun visor is original. Beautiful gray cloth interior has no flaws, tears or stains. Trunk is finished in a wool style fabric and has a spare tire cover. Sold as is, where is. The hood, trunk, doors, fenders. body, and frame were stripped to bare metal, primed and multiple coats of 1990 Cadillac PPG Garnet Red Pearl paint and clear were applied This 1949 Cadillac is a stunning example of state-of-the-art metal technology and paint, masterfully blended with beautiful post-World War II design. The interior is a faithful recreation of the original 1949 Cadillac design by Armando's Custom Interiors of San Jacinto, CA. A rich Tobacco Brown leather was used to complement the Garnet Red Pearl paint. Armando's added elegant woven leather buttons to the door panels. The same woven leather was added to the straps behind the front seats. Other than these unique additions, the interior seats, door panels, and arm rests are exactly as originally designed. Armando's also detailed the trunk and spare tire cover with the same leather panels and woven leather buttons. All the original gauges, dashboard, steering wheel and interior chrome have been restored. In a nod to driving comfort, Vintage air conditioning and a classic-faced Sirius XM radio have been added. This Cadillac convertable has been restored to it's 1949 elegance, with no exterior hint that the running gear has been updated. To allow the Cadillac to handle and preform to current standards, a new drive train was installed, including an 509 cubic inch Cadillac engine build by the Cad Company of Albuquerque, NM. A 4L80-E transmission and a 9" Currie rear end were also added. The engine delivers 425 HP and 475 ft/pounds of torque, making driving in the city or on the freeway a dream. To update the ride, handling, and braking, stronger suspension and shocks were added, along with power steering and new front and rear power disc brakes. The original Cadillac 15" wire wheels were rebuild, making certain that the final touch of style was retained. It has received a complete frame off, nut and bolt restoration and only has around 1000 miles on it since completion. It is dressed in deep triumph midnight blue (Factory Color) and shows with great luster and pride. The body is laser straight and the panel fit is beautiful. The chrome has all been redone and has a brilliant shine. The bright work is polished and shines extremely well. All the glass is intact and clear. All the lights and signals work properly and even still has the spare tire inflator mounted on the rear tail panel. The body is solid and completely rust free. The floors are also solid and rust free. Every nut and bolt has been paint stakingly restored. The tires are new bias plyed 3” wide whites. Please look at the beauty in the picture and pay attention to the detail of this vehicle. Also, you may or may not recall, this style Cadillac is the beginning of the tailfin era. This beautifully done interior consists of the originally restored hydraulic power windows and even the power seat works. The seats, carpet and headliner have all been restored to period correct specifications. The dash and cluster is in immaculate condition.
