1966 PONTIAC GTO HARDTOP COUPE FOR SALE - GLADSTONE, NJIn 1964, Pontiac introduced a high-performance option package for its handsome and very popular LeMans model. Demand for this package was huge and in 1966 the GTO was officially made a Pontiac model. The buying public loved it. Ours is a full body-off-chassis restoration (with full photo documentation) finished in Jamaican Yellow with black--as original--Cordova top and matching black bucket-seat interior. Fitted with, as the song says “3 deuces, a 4-speed and a 389,” the car is fabulous to drive. Additional to the optional Cordova top and 4-speed manual transmission, the car was ordered new with the options of a push-button AM radio, wire wheels discs, “Wonder-touch” power steering and “Soft Ray” tinted windshield. It still wears, as original, red-line G-70x14 red-line tires. The “Strato” bucket seats, deluxe steering wheel and dual exhaust were standard equipment. 1966 GTO Convertible389 CID, Rochester 4 BBL, Auto Trans, 411 rear.This is an extraordinary example of a well preserved, not restored, classic muscle car. It is almost entirely original, and has 62000+ original miles.It is in astonishingly good mechanical condition; it is quiet, it is smooth, it is fast, and the only rattle is the top. It has been garaged and covered for the last 38 years. It is taken out occasionally for exercise and maintenance.I have owned this car for over 40 years, so my judgment may be biased, but I have looked at many GTO’s; there are none like this one.This car is ideal for the aficionado; it is factory built, and has never been taken apart. Everything works except the clock. It is not a perfect show car; it has flaws, but they are minimal.It has been maintained for safe driving: new brake pads (drums are original), brake lines, synthetic brake fluid, new gas line, wheels and tires are three years old, rear springs and shocks are new. It was repainted in 1986, new top was installed in 1983. Bumpers were re-plated in 1983. New windshield installed in 2010.I have a list, and receipts, for every bit of service done to the car. I have the original owners manual complete with the metal owners ID plate.This car is priced at $41,900.00, and worth every dollar.I am not a collector; this is my only old car. Runs great but needs love. This car has been in the family since 1970. There was an amatuer restoration attempted by my father in law 30 years ago. It needs paint, interior, top and upholstery work but we think it is priced accordingly. We had the engine and transmission rebuilt in 1999 and have only put less than that 10K on it since then. Crager wheels, good rubber and a super strong motor make it really fun to drive.
