1972 Triumph Spitfire Base Triumph Spitfire 1972 Mk IV Plus Overdrive

This is a 1972 Triumph Spitfire Mk IV in Pimento red. It has a 1300cc engine plus J-Type Overdrive. This car has been totally reliable in my ownership, starting easily and running well. The engine appears to be in good condition with no visible smoke on start-up. Like most classic Triumphs it drips a little oil. Originally a non-overdrive car, the overdrive transmission was fitted recently and operates correctly with the switch being on the gearstick. (Original transmission available) The braking system has recently been overhauled as has been much of the suspension. Braking is smooth and effective, as is the parking brake. The exhaust has been replaced recently. The bodywork is generally good, though there are a few minor dings and blemishes in the paintwork commensurate with its age. This aside the paintwork is good with little sign of "orange peel". It has a good shine. There is little evidence of rust; the driver's footwell flooring has been repaired but apart from this all bodywork appears sound. There is minor cracking in the area around the hood clamps and near the headlights, both common Spitfire features. I have recently coated the underbody with black rubberised paint to add to rust prevention. The chassis frame including outriggers looks sound with only minor surface rusting in places. The Minator wheels are in excellent condition and make an attractive period feature. The interior is in good condition. The whole carpet set is new, black with attractive red edging. Both door panels are new as is the dashtop cover. The car has its original high-back seats. Securon retractable seat belts have recently been fitted to improve safety, but this means the original seatbelt warning light does not function. The wiring however is still present if the new owner wished to replace the belts with original style items. There is no radio but a 12 V socket plus a USB socket are located in the radio space. The trunk has recently been lined with black vinyl and carpeting, making it neater and more attractive than the original. There is a spare wheel and cover. The soft top is showing its age in places but is basically sound. Some stitching along seams has been repaired and is not as tidy as the original. Most Spitfires however rarely need the top up! It has its own boot cover when the soft top is folded down. All in all, this is a good looking usable car that needs nothing major doing before being ready to enjoy. The mileage quoted is as shown, not guaranteed correct. I have described this to the best of my knowledge and understanding. The car comes with no warranty. Any car over 40 years old is likely to show its age in some way and this is no exception. It is not a concours car. Any potential purchaser is encouraged to view the car before purchase. It is available to view in Chester NY - Hudson Valley area near the 87 thruway, 84 Interstate and 17. About 50 miles north of NYC. This is a "one of a kind TR 6". 5 year frame on restoration. Purchased the car in 2009. Car had been housed in a barn in Va. when I purchased it. The only rust of any kind that was found when purchased, was located in the small patch panel area in the front lower fender.Only one had 3 pin holes, but both sides were leaded in and replaced. Car was completely dismantled, all fenders, doors, trunk, hood, rear deck stripped to bare metal. Metal in all floor, trunk, deck areas rock solid. Entire inside of tub was sanded and primed with POR15 rust proofing. Entire under side of car was sanded and also POR15 treated. All inner fenders were undercoated. 1962 Triumph TR4 - 103,918 Miles - 4 Speed Transmission - Front Disc Brakes This car does have some upgrades. This older restoration car graced Barrett-Jackson's Auction house when my buddy bought it in 2007. He has had some health issues and has not used the car in 3 - 4 years. I am selling it on consignment on his behalf. I am becoming more familiar with this TR4 since it was flat-bedded to my garage. After replacing the battery and putting fresh fuel in the tank, the car started! Wow! I was impressed. I also drove it about 5 miles or so and can tell you the tranny and clutch are excellent. Tracks nice and stops. There is a slight pull to one side when applying brakes. The engine runs rough, but upon acceleration, all the cylinders fire. I think a good tune-up and carburetor rebuild will make it perfect. As a precaution I pulled the 4 plugs and did a compression test and found all the cylinders have between 190 and 215 pounds of pressure. In fact, after the car was purchased, the motor lower half and head were completely rebuilt - I have the receipt dated 2007 for over $5,000.00 as proof. The car traveled about 350 miles since the rebuild to date. The radiator neck leaks a little anti-freeze. Of course the normal minor oil leak is present. Gauges all seem to work including speedometer and odometer. Trip meter not working. Right rear leaf spring must be a little weak because going over a bump, the right side differential axle shaft touches the right rear section of the frame. Interior is mint. Top and tonneau cover are excellent. (I don't know how the top goes on.) No rust. Excellent chrome. 2 - 3 bubble spots in the paint - too small and insignificant to see in the photos. Slight gap between driver door and quarter panel. Door however shuts tight. I have the passenger side mirror in the trunk. I believe the car's original color was robin egg blue. I don't see any trace of the blue. Red paint is showroom. Please have your mechanic check it out because once it's paid for, it's yours! No warranty or guarantee. Up for sale is my TR3B that I've owned since 1982. Purchased with 52K on the odometer. I had it professionally painted red over an older red that was laid over the original iris blue. It was professionally undercoated back in the day but had some lower panel issues with rust. I had the visible rust repaired prior to the paint, but did not have the lower minor rust repaired. The previous owner did a very amateur ''repair'' on the front floor panels, especially the front drivers floor area....looks bad but works fine , and once covered, .....not a priority issue to me. Neither was the engine compartment.....when the bonnet is shut. When purchased, I had all the steering and suspension parts in the front end replaced, the complete clutch and all brake parts renewed. Also the carpeting in the cockpit and the trunk. The odometer now reads 75068. The engine and transmission work well with no issues other than the ''spotting'' when parked. Still peppy, no smoke or odd sounds. There seems to be a just noticeable slow release developing in the front left caliper. Somewhat recent repairs include the water pump, total carb renewal, Pertronix ignition, 4 tires, master and clutch cylinders. seat covering is vinyl and good condition. The side curtains are in good condition as is the top frame. Has the small frame cover and if I can find it, a full tonneau too. A new-in-box [never fitted] convertible top, NOS muffler, complete brake line kit and new carpeting with padding and many spare new parts from Moss are included. 1973 Triumph TR6 in Pimento Red. It runs and drives well with 10' paint (could use a fresh spray) and almost new tires. I spent more than $2000 on parts: new mirrors, new filters & fluids, new clutch slave cylinder (not rebuilt but brand new), new console buttons, carpets and marine grade vinyl for trunk. I also painted trunk and floor panels with POR15 and covered the floors with FatMat sound deadener. It has the original color and interior codes with matching body/engine numbers.
