Up for sale in the Houston showroom is one of the most iconic cars in history, the 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am \"Bandit\". The Pontiac Firebird was a car designed by the Pontiac division of General Motors between 1967 and 2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year as the Chevrolet Camaro and coincidentally shared the same chassis. This move by GM coincided with the release of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, which shared its chassis with another iconic car, the Ford Mustang. Firebirds were used in the Trans-Am racing series in the 1960s and 1970s. When the Firebird Trans Am was released, there was a lot of noise over the model\'s inability to compete in the Trans-Am because the smallest available engine was too large for use in SCCA presented series. The name also caused controversy because it was used without permission from the SCCA, who threatened to file suit against GM. GM ended up settling the dispute by paying $5 to the SCCA for every car sold. And also let\'s not forget Smokey and the Bandit was a smash hit at the box office. Bankrolled with an original budget of $5.3 million which was cut to $4.3 million two days before initial production and the film still grossed $126,737,428 in North America making it the 4th highest grossing movie of 1977. The worldwide gross is estimated at over $300 million. In the final year of the Second Generation Firebirds (1981), the Trans Am for sale still used the same engines as it had in the previous model year, with the only change being the addition of a new electronic carburetion system atop the 301 cubic inch Pontiac. 1980 and 1981 saw the biggest engine changes for the Trans Am since 1972. The 301, offered in 1979 as a credit option, was now the engine to have. Backed by the 3 speed automatic transmission and a 10 bolt Pontiac rear end, I guess you could say this car was made to fly. Signed by the Bandit himself, this is a car show magnet. Original BANONE license plate is with the car along with Burt Reynolds signed autography with letter of authenticity. Options on this gorgeous 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am include: A/C, am/fm/cd radio, power door locks, power windows, power brakes, power steering, tilt wheels, t-tops, numbers matching and aluminum alloy wheels on performance radial tires. This numbers matching 1967 GTO is located in our Louisville Kentucky showroom. 1967 was the last year for the first generation GOAT which is arguably the first true muscle car. It was also the year for a lot of firsts. The 400 CID was introduced this year which was basically the popular 389 just punched out a little. This was done primarily to increase torque due to the increasing weight of the now very luxurious GTO. It was also the first year that body molding along with the now classic 6.6 liter emblem. This 67 GTO is very rare being that it is an actual post car. Pontiac had only built a little over 7000 post cars with many of them being pulled apart upon delivery to stuff huge cubic inch motors in to go drag racing. This numbers matching car has the original 335 HP 400 in it that was rebuilt less than 1500 miles ago. It was bored .040 over with a new set of pistons, rings, and bearings installed as well. The decision was then made to use a slightly larger cam giving it much better low end torque while maintaining great drivability. Putting power to the ground is the very sought after posi-trac rear end that is believed to have 3.55 gears. The red interior is fresh with what appears to be a brand new dash cap as well as new door panels. It even has the original Data Tag, warranty book with plate, and owner\'s manual. The car has been completely undercoated with a rust inhibitor to ensure this American classic will be here for years to come. Options for this 1967 GTO 2 door post include; AC, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Vinyl, AM/FM, Radial Tires, Hub Caps and Seat Belts. Pontiac achieved this additional horsepower by beefing up the 4-barrel carburetor, adding a cam with 20 more degrees of duration, a new low restriction dual resonator exhaust system, and adding an air cleaner with a larger snorkel. Just so that everyone knew you had a T/A 6.6, the callouts were affixed to the shaker and chrome valve covers. This car is also optioned with the WS6 Handling Package that consists of stiffer rear springs, larger rear stabilizer bar with polyurethane link bushings, tighter shocks, a new steering gearbox with a 14:1 ratio, and 225/70R15 steel belted Goodyear Radials wrapped around a set of 15x8 inch wide snowflake wheels. This 1978 Pontiac Trans Am is powered by its original 6.6L 400 CID V8 engine , backed by a 4-speed manual transmission, running to a Posi Traction rear end with 3.42 gears with only 13,909 actual miles!
