This nut-and-bolt restored 1982 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler is proof of concept thirty years ago, and is dressed in a bright red color scheme that works perfectly with the hot-rod Jeep's burly 350 cubic inch V8 living under the hood. With this 4x4, you can go anywhere, carry everything, and do it in a hurry, all with the confidence of having what might be the nicest Scrambler in the country! The CJ8 was a longer version of the CJ7, which had both the benefit of increasing cargo capacity and improving the on-road ride. Only a handful were built during six years of production, and the numbers in 1982 didn't even break 3000, so finding one this nice today is quite unexpected. It has been neatly maintained and refinished as needed during its life, and the paint it wears today has an awesome look that is a lot flashier than you'd expect for 1982, but works extremely well today. The doors and hood fit well, Scrambler decals have been reinstalled, and there's a removable hardtop for all-weather comfort. This Jeep also features a gray spray-in bedliner in the cargo bay (it's strictly a two-seater) and aggressive rubber flares for the fenders which allow oversized tires and protect the bodywork when you're off road. A grille guard, simple chrome bumper, a roll bar, a rear-mounted spare, and stake sides on the bed give it a no-nonsense look that suits it well. Like all CJs, the CJ8 Scrambler is basic inside, catering to the guy who understands that playing outside is a dirty affair. Fortunately, comfort and simplicity can live together in the form of supportive black vinyl bucket seats over a floor painted to match the bodywork. Have fun, get dirty, hose it all off and do it again, it's the Jeep way. Aftermarket Auto Meter gauges work with the stock speedometer in the center of the dash, where it's lived for decades, but there is no radio, which shouldn't be a surprise; you're not going to miss it. An aftermarket center console provides some weatherproof storage and a pair of cup holders (good luck with those on the trail!), and there's a grab bar for passengers. You'll also note there are only two pedals on the floor and a column-mounted shifter for the 3-speed automatic transmission, a relatively rare option but fully correct for the CJ8. To go with its added size, this CJ8 Scrambler carries reliable Chevy 350 cubic inch V8 under the squared-off hood. With plenty of torque to move this 4x4 over any terrain, it makes pleasant V8 noises and is the perfect partner to the automatic transmission, making climbing around off-road a low-stress proposition. Nicely detailed with an Edelbrock chrome dress-up kit, fresh red plug wires and distributor cap, and an overall clean look that suggests careful maintenance since it was restored, and it probably hasn't hit the trails yet. It also offers power steering and brakes to help out when the going gets tough, and a soundtrack provided by a new exhaust system underneath. Manual-locking hubs provide the ultimate in reliability and traction, and the undercarriage shows the results of a full frame-off restoration that was finished not too long ago. Will you even have the courage to take this one into the dirt? Big Mickey Thompson aluminum slots have a butch look and carry oversized 33x12.5-15 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires. A neat footnote in Jeep history that's suddenly back in fashion, this Scrambler is also a great collectable that can still go anywhere, and you just won't find a nicer one than this. Vehicles like this ultra-clean 1981 CJ7 have been a staple of having fun in the mud for decades, and even with all of today's technology and performance, they're still the vehicle to beat when the trail truly turns against you. Finding an all-steel CJ that hasn't been bashed to death on the rocks or eaten alive by the tinworm is no easy task, yet this black Laredo shows off its original bodywork with pride. Sure, it's probably been off-roading a few times in its life, but nobody has abused this Jeep, and with only 21 miles on the frame-off restoration, you know it hasn't seen any heavy use since it was finished. The rockers are protected by shiny panels, and the brilliant yellow paint has a great shine that will be easy to clean. With basic panels and soft doors, there aren't really any panel gaps to align, but the hood snugs down easily with those chrome latches, and the drop-down tailgate shows zero signs of rust. Simple chrome bumpers have been fitted so as to be both light and effective, and the traditional Jeep grille nestled between those fat fenders is protected by a polished stainless steel grille. Rubber fender flares cover the oversized tires and keep the mudslinging to a minimum, and you'll probably want to lower the windshield for the full frontal experience. Rounding out the package are fresh Laredo decals and a stripe kit, accurately re-creating 1982 and to be honest, it looks great, not dated. Inside, it's rugged and basic, with black vinyl and cloth high-back bucket seats designed to be cleaned with a hose. The floor has been covered with spray-in bedliner material for the same reason, but that doesn't mean the CJ is bereft of comfort and convenience features; in fact, this might be one of the more luxurious CJs we've seen. There's a full array of gauges, which are critical when you're out in the wilderness, a center console for valuables, and a full back seat for a pair of guests to ride along. The two levers on the floor manage the 5-speed manual gearbox, which totally transforms the CJ's on-road behavior, as well as the shifter for the 2-speed transfer case, which is the core of any Jeep's off-road abilities. There is no top, but if you're asking for one, you're doing the whole Jeep thing completely wrong. Power comes from AMC's durable and torquey 258 cubic inch inline-six, which was definitely the powerplant you want in your CJ. It isn't designed for all-out speed, but it's plenty snappy around town and for off-roading, what you really want is a smooth flow of power (which this engine delivers), good low-speed torque (in spades), and bulletproof reliability (check). It hasn't been modified and was obviously nicely detailed during the restoration, and the engine rebuilt during the restoration. Underneath, it's extremely solid with the aforementioned 5-speed manual transmission, 2-speed transfer case, and an AMC 20 rear axle and a Dana 30 up front, all of which make this CJ highly maneuverable in the brush. The suspension was lifted with a mild shackle kit and the exhaust system has a hearty rumble, which always makes folks do a double-take when they hear it coming from a Jeep. It's shockingly clean underneath, nicely detailed, and sits right on those giant 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires. If you're looking for adventure, this is the vehicle that'll get you there. Awesome colors, a great pedigree, and lots of recent work all add up to a Jeep that's easy to love. With a recent and thorough restoration and trail-rated hardware, it's ready to do some serious off-roading, and you just can't beat that old-school look and anvil-like durability that the CJ7 brings. We're finally getting to the point where these CJs are legitimate collector's items, but you'll probably discover that very few are finished to this level. The shape is unmistakable, especially with the doors and top removed, and thanks to a new black paint job and a set of authentic Renegade decals installed just a short time ago, it looks incredible. Thanks to professional workmanship throughout, it feels tight and fits together quite well, and while a lot of these CJs led hard lives, this one has obviously been taking it easy since the work was completed. Heck, some Jeep guys might scoff at how bright and shiny this one is, especially with the chrome grille and bumpers, but nobody will argue that this isn't a great-looking off-roader. Add in the brutal-looking tubular bumpers and massive spare tire hanging off the back, and it looks to be ready for just about anything. Inside, this one is almost too nice to venture into the dirt, with beautiful high-back buckets with handsome black seat covers and a matching rear bench. There's also a useful center console with storage and cup holders, and a pair of nice-fitting rubber floor mats over the floors, which are wearing black carpets for a more upscale and luxurious feel than you're accustomed to in an open Jeep. The original gauges look good in their shiny stainless instrument panel, and they're joined by a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit. There's also a tilt steering column and custom steering wheel which make it feel far more sophisticated than you'd expect. This Jeep also includes a bikini top for emergencies or days when the sun is just too hot, while there's a matching black hardtop and steel doors for truly inclement weather. Wouldn't this make an awesome daily driver? In 1984, most Jeeps carried the 4.2 liter inline-six, whose torque output and reliability are the stuff of legends. This one was fully rebuilt less than 2 years ago during the restoration, with a custom carburetor and air cleaner and a clean finned valve cover up top added to complete the look. MSD provided the ignition system and there are recent hoses and belts to make it reliable. Power steering is probably mandatory with those giant tires and it carries front disc brakes that make stopping drama-free. The chassis is in excellent condition, including the 4-speed manual transmission and 2-speed transfer case, and much of the hardware looks to have been recently serviced. New beefy off-road shocks manage a full lift kit, which provides plenty of ground clearance for some pretty hairy rock-crawling with room for those giant 33x12.50-15 off-road radials on polished ICW aluminum wheels. A muscle car for the dirt? You'd better believe it. Not many CJs get restored to this level, so when you find one this nice, don't hesitate.
