With just 36,067 original miles, this handsome black wagon is both supremely capable and totally traditional in the most American way possible: wood paneling. Except for maybe a few PT Cruisers, the Grand Wagoneer was probably the last US-made vehicle to feature wood paneling on its flanks. It looks right, giving the upscale Jeep a country club demeanor and a traditional look that goes all the way back to the earliest woodies. Sure, it's pure style, but what isn't these days? And with so few miles, this Grand Wagoneer is in fantastic condition with glossy black paint that's one of the most popular colors today. The woodgrained decals are in excellent condition with no peeling or fading and aside from some of those inevitable polishing marks in the black paint, it looks far younger than 25 years old. The shape dates to the 1960s, but with chrome bumpers, a hood ornament, a big grille, and stainless window surrounds, the biggest Jeep was able to move upscale and realistically be mentioned in the same breath as the Range Rover. It doesn't appear to have ever been wrecked or rusty and the doors close with a remarkably precise feel, a rare feat for anything built by AMC. The rugged exterior contrasts neatly with the handsome burgundy cloth and leather interior, which is as plush as a contemporary Cadillac and loaded with luxury features. There's plenty of room in the spacious cabin, so road trips are a genuine pleasure, and with such niceties as power windows, locks, and seats, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and A/C (which could use a recharge), it won't ever feel like you're "roughing it" in this Grand Wagoneer. The seats are in excellent condition with only slight comfort marks on the leather portions of the outer bolsters and the back seat looks almost completely untouched. Plush carpets are a bit faded, which is inevitable with anything red, but they're in good condition and help keep the inside of the Grand Wagoneer quiet and comfortable. An AM/FM/cassette stereo system dates the truck but works rather well and you get a full dash full of analog instruments that are easy to read. The rear compartment is positively huge and beautifully tailored with stainless rub strips to protect the carpet. AMC's biggest V8, a 360 cubic incher topped with a 2-barrel carburetor, was standard equipment. Its specifications may seem modest, but it's incredibly torquey and doesn't mind crawling around in the dirt. It has a hushed exhaust note befitting its upscale luxury mission and it has proven its durability inside Jeeps for decades. It's nicely maintained and runs well, and a tune-up would probably make it so smooth you couldn't feel it running. It's definitely clean under the hood and under the body, showing no signs of winter weather or harsh off-road conditions, and thanks to a recent exhaust system, it sounds just right. Jeep's sophisticated all-wheel-drive system was way ahead of most of the competition in 1990, with a 3-speed automatic transmission and a set of 2.72 gears, so it's a great highway cruiser. Handsome alloy wheels are a familiar look and they're wrapped in 235/75/15 whitewall radials for just the right upscale look. You'll note that prices on good Grand Wagoneers are skyrocketing. There's a finite supply of good, low-mileage units like this, and we'll wager that this one won't last long at all. We take SUVs for granted today, but in the 1970s, if you wanted a 4-door wagon that could climb a mountain, the Jeep store was the only place to go. With V8 power, a sophisticated 4-wheel-drive system, modern amenities, and enough room for the whole family, these Jeeps represent the beginning of an entirely new category of vehicles. You're used to seeing these with wood paneling, but the originals had no such pretensions and came pretty much the way you see this one today. The Jeep bodywork is easy to recognize even at a distance and for a vehicle that's more than 35 years old, this one is remarkably well preserved. It's been restored as needed over the years, but never warranted a full dis-assembly thanks to an easy southern life, giving it a sturdy all-of-a-piece feeling going down the road. The bodywork is in good order, just about the way you'd expect for a vehicle with this one's capabilities: not perfect, but certainly nice enough to be driven with pride. The paint has been re-sprayed in its original color and although it does show some signs of use and age, quite honestly there's nothing that says all-weather competence like this Wagoneer. A few chrome pieces add distinction, including the window surrounds, big Jeep grille, and a shiny luggage rack up top that's practical as well as handsome. The tan interior is spacious, perfect for family vacations to that out-of-the-way spot most folks don't know about. The control layout should be familiar to anyone who has driven a full-sized Jeep product of the era, with a fairly comprehensive array of gauges for the driver and plenty of comfort and convenience items. A column-mounted automatic transmission works with the sophisticated 4-wheel-drive system to ensure that you've always got traction and things like the AM/FM/CB radio, A/C (fully functional, by the way), and a tilt steering column make it feel far more luxurious than its price would suggest. The carpets are brand new, and cover floor boards that have been professionally coated with bed-liner, should you want bring the elements inside the cabin. Door panels and seat covers are original and in great condition and the back seat is spacious enough for a no-complaints road trip from anyone you put back there. Of course, there's also the massive cargo bay, which is neatly carpeted and looks like it would carry just about anything you could imagine. AMC's rugged and torquey 360 cubic inch V8 was standard equipment and with a recent top-end freshening, this one is not only fresh but drives superbly. The under-hood area is beautifully detailed and is very correct, from the air intake to the factory engine enamel on the block, to the ultra-clean firewall and inner fenders. Turn the key and it starts easily and has a muscular V8 sound thanks to a correct single exhaust system. Underneath, you'll be amazed by how clean this Wagoneer is (especially if you've ever been under one of these before) and it looks like it's never been anywhere more challenging than a gravel driveway. Recent shocks give it a very smooth ride and with power steering and brakes, this big wagon handles well and is still a great choice for today's modern world. Industrial-looking and correct steel wheels are a favorite 4x4 look and they're wrapped in right-sized 235/75/15 Firestone all-terrain radials. With a 2-page list of new parts, this expertly maintained Wagoneer is a rare find. There are plenty of later Grand Wagoneers around, but very few like this. Nicely preserved and maintained by a meticulous owner, this truck is ready to be enjoyed but won't last long, so call today! 1979 Jeep Wagoneer for Sale 1979 Jeep Wagoneer for Sale Stock # 2594-ATL Charlotte Showroom 5400 West WT Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28269 Local/International: (704) 598-2130 Toll-Free: (866) 542-8392 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Atlanta Showroom 213 Thornton Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 Local/International: (678) 279-1609 Toll-Free: (877) 367-1835 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Dallas/Fort Worth Showroom 5400 Sandshell Dr Fort Worth, TX 76137 Local/International: (817) 764-8000 Toll-Free: (855) 877-2707 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM CST Sat: 9AM - 5PM CST Email: [email protected] TERMS OF SALE 1. Alas, it is with a heavy heart, solemn soul, and great reluctance that I am offering my 1991 Final Edition Jeep Grand Wagoneer (I can barely type the words) for sale. :( One lucky “you know what” will earn the privilege of calling this baby their own. If that “so and so” happens to be you, then I tip my hat, for you have truly chosen wisely and will enjoy many a trip to the lake, mountains, or beach or just soaking up the attention you’ll get kicking around town. But be warned, every old codger who used to have one, knew someone who had one, or who just likes Chevy Chase / John Candy movies will want to bend you ear for an hour in a half about how much they love the old Woodies. Truth be told, even that’s kind of fun. Anyhoo, let’s get down to brass tax. Like I said, I am selling my 1991 Grand Wagoneer Final Edition. 1991 is the last year they made the Grand Wagoneer, and they only made 1,500, so having a Final Edition is kind of a big deal. Well, I think it is anyway. This truck is very well documented from the first owner in Jacksonville, FL to the $15,000 in repairs / restoration that someone put into it back in 2002-ish. This truck is very unique. From the aftermarket-factory (?) sunroof to the push-button starter in the glove box, “Big Bear” as I like to caller is definitely a one of a kind. I thought the most effective way of describing Big Bear would be to make a few lists. See below, and let me know if you have any questions. I am pricing this truck to sell, and I would appreciate contact only from serious buyers. Thanks!! The Good The Engine!!!! - The original AMC 360 was replaced by an ATK remanufactured. These engines are reverse engineered to ensure that any original factory defects are removed. The Jeep has 160K miles on it, but the engine only has about 20k miles. Best part? It cranks almost immediately, has a smooth idle, and power for days. And just for good measure, I replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, starter coil, and installed a new high-torque starter and radiator!!! Ah-hem.......FYI, you got some drool on your shirt. Air Conditioner - Yes folks, your eyes do not deceive you. The A/C will freeze my ass out in mid-July. No joke. The Tires - Brand new. Good spare. Nuff said. The Seats - No tears and super clean!! The Carpet - Original, old, but in surprisingly great condition. All Windows Work!!! - Woohoo!!! If you have shopped for a Wagon then you know that most / all of them have at least one window (usually the back one) that won’t roll up or down for one or more various reasons. ALL windows can be fully controlled from all locations in the cab. You should be excited. This is a thing. The Just Okay The Paint - Old and scratched. The white color really helps to hide some of her blemishes. The Wood Paneling - Old and faded but I’ve see a hell of a lot worse. Rust - In no way is this truck “rusted” but there are few spots that have SURFACE RUST. This is a touchy subject for many, so I’m going to leave it there and let you decide for yourself exactly how much and how bad the rust is. The Radio - Sorta works. CDs are fine, but it doesn’t really pick up any stations, and I think one of the speakers is out. Never really used it anyway. The Bad / Odd? The Sunroof - Sealed. I recommend keeping it that way and never speak of it again. When I got it it was sealed. I unsealed it, got it fully functioning, fixed the drain tubes, and crossed my fingers. It was installed at the dealership (aftermarket-factory) and has been there since. It doesn’t really fit well in the space anymore and is leaky!!!!! Eeek!!! Run for the hills!!!! I resealed it and am pretty sure it doesn’t leak anymore. I came, I saw, I failed miserably. Trust me, don’t try it. The Push Button Start in the Glovebox - Why, you ask? Why the hell not, I retort? Fact is, I have no clue. My guess is that at some point someone pulled the steering column and forgot to / couldn’t reconnect the starter, so they decided to stick a push button in the glove box. I was going to mount it on the ash tray, but since I’m selling the truck I didn’t want to do anything too permanent. I’ll let you figure that one out. What Works? - Lights - Blinkers - Electric Seat Adjusts What Doesn’t Work? - Most door locks. - 4WD. Not sure why. Take it to a place. They’ll tell you. - Cruise Control. Who needs that shit anyway? It’s a Wagoneer for Pete’s sake. - The “fog” lights? You know, the ones that aren’t headlights but are on the grill. Bottom Line: This IS NOT a fully restored Wagoneer. Don’t be disappointed when you are faced with exactly the vehicle I just described. You’ll be wasting your time and infinitely more important MINE. Seriously, don’t be that guy. This truck is perfect for the weekend warrior who wants to roll in a kick ass ride, OR the person looking for a good foundation from which to start a restoration project. Let’s see, what else? Come take her for a spin and fall in love!!
