1977 FORD RAT ROD CHOP TOP STEPSIDE 2WD PICK UPLets start with the History on it, this truck is an old Hot Rod that was chopped in the early 80's while it was still pretty new. It was used as a Show truck competing for trophy's for many years in the South. The owner got bored with it and gutted out al the show stuff and turned it into a pro street/drag truck in the late 80's. It ran a healthy small block with a Dana rear till he blew the motor ad parked it for many years. He then got it running again with the 5.0 that is in it now did a bunch of new work to it and sold it. This truck has had a lot of work done to it let me ramble off some of its features.Besides the obvious top chop it also has a car front frame clip added to lower it and make it ride and brake better. I believe it is an LTD or Crown Vic unit. The gas tank was moved to the rear where it is out of the cab for safety. It has a custom gas door in the rear fender and a rolled pan out back with custom taillights frenched into the fenders. The tailgate is smoothed out with louvers punched into it, it has hidden slider latches with new retaining chains hidden in the bed for a cleaner look. The wood in the bad has been changed to one solid really expensive sheet of diamond plate. The doors have been gutted for weight and it has stationary lexan windows and drag car style door poppers. The truck still has the A/C in it as well all hooked up just needs a charge. All of the floor pans have been changed in the truck and the entire truck was re wired with a Painless wiring harness. He never hooked up the turn signals because he had plans to swap out the column for a tilt unit. The gas gauge does not work either. The seats are fiberglass racing buckets with sliding tracks on both sides. It has neaders with duals out to the rear, one of the mufflers sounds blown out it is a little noisy. Before I bought this truck it had been sitting for many years. I put a new edlebrock carb on it, changed the oil, plugs and wires. It also needed a new starter and solenoid and then it fired right up like it was running yesterday. It runs good no ticks or knocks under the hood, when I changed the valve cover gaskets the motor was very clean inside. It has some kind of lumpy cam it idles real tuff, I have two videos BELOW one from the back and one under the hood so you can hear the engine. But the idle does fluctuate sometimes it may have a vacuum leak or need an ignition upgrade, it is still running the stock ford distributor with the crappy duraspark box. I have only driven it up and down my street no distances of any kind. It drives and stops fine just the issue with the idle you sometimes have to kick it in neutral and clear it out it loads up and wants to stall. I am sure the gas is kinda stale as well from sitting. It can use a fan shroud or an electric fan as well, he has the fan very far away from the radiator. IT SHOULD HAVE A COMPLETE MECHANICAL GO THRU BEFORE DRIVING ANYWHERE but don't get me wrong this is a great truck for CHEAP money. Don't expect a Barret Jackson $100,000 truck, but with a little TLC it can be a real sharp ride. I have a clear NC title in my name, the only reason I am selling it is for the space NOT the money. The following has been completed, Tilt hood kit installed, both cab doors have been completely rebuilt with all new hardware/glass and seals. Entire cargo bed (all metal) replaced an new wood/stainless steel slats installed. Disc brake conversation kit, Ford 9 inch rear end. All new Cab/leaf springs bushing. New running boards,12V electric wiper motor, custom emergency foot brake and cable installed. Major parts on hand NEW in boxes: Chrome front/rear bumpers, sliding glass window, Custom frame mounted power booster with master cylinder, 12V Custom complete wire harness, Electric speedometer gauge kit with custom instrument panel an glass, Polyethylene fuel tank (missing sending unit). A 351W engine / C4 transmission currently not installed (see note below) Currently I have the hood off. I've been stock piling all kinds of NEW parts for this project way to many to list however I'd be happy to email list. Area's of Concern: All brake lines need to be installed - Truck needs to be wired (12V wire harness on hand) Cab requires seats/insulation and front windshield. - Tires & rimes of your choice. - The engine is a 351W (77-78) rebuilt with new pistons/rings/rods/heads/aluminum intake/timing chain and all new seals. Unfortunately I just never completed the final assembly I do have a lot of the parts on hand except for a Radiator. The transmission is a C4 good shape. I have every receipt and have many pictures from day 1 when I bought this truck, I am the 3rd owner, the title is clear through North Carolina.
