V8 power, a hugely competent suspension setup, and a bare-bones attitude that's all about low maintenance after a day playing in the dirt. It would be a mistake to call the Bronco "Ford's Jeep," but when it's pared down to its very essence like this, the comparison is apt. Designed to go anywhere and have fun while doing it, this Bronco's list of equipment reads like a performance off-road catalog. Much of the body, what's left of it anyway, is original, but it's been enhanced with some stylish fiberglass body parts that transform the look. Obviously the cowl-induction hood is an aftermarket part, as are those door inserts that give it a finished look that doesn't seem to need anything more. Finish quality is about what you'd want for your off-roader, nice enough to get nods of approval from your fellow Bronco fans but not so perfect that you're afraid to use it as intended. Black means that extra time was spent on prep and it shows only minor signs of use since it was completed, suggesting it's had excellent care. A heavy-duty front bumper adds to the rough-and-tumble look, while a custom rear bumper with a beefy spare tire mount makes it look purposeful. Fender flares cover the rear tires and just about anything that was chrome has been painted black or shaved entirely, save for the shiny Bronco emblems on its flanks. You want attention, this truck delivers! The interior is only the basics, covered in materials that don't mind getting wet, and designed to help you handle the rough stuff. The stock seats have been replaced by racing seats that hold you in place no matter what you're doing and the entire tub has been treated to spray-on bedliner material, so it's durable and easy to maintain. This was originally a 4-seater Bronco, but the rear seat was removed a few years ago to make it resemble a U14 model and added dual roll bars for safety. A Grant GT steering wheel is wrapped in leather and looks racy, while the original gauges still monitor the basics, joined by a pair of aftermarket dials under the dash. It does have an original AM radio in the center of the dash, but you'll never use it after you see how much fun this thing is to drive. It's basic, but very well executed. And just in case, you do get a bikini top and a half-cab fiberglass hardtop; nobody said you had to drive in the rain. For power, you get a reliable, torquey 302 cubic inch V8 that still looks quite stock. The heavy-duty air cleaner, Ford Blue paint, and other systems all look very much like they would have in 1977, and that's good news for reliability. It starts with a characteristic V8 burble from the twin Flowmaster mufflers, sounding more Mustang than truck, and with things like power steering and brakes, it's especially easy to handle in the rough. Obviously the suspension is heavily modified, with a lift kit, heavy-duty springs and shocks, and upgraded hardware throughout, and you'll note that the chassis is in great shape. If anyone went off-roading in this truck since it was done, they used care and cleaned everything up properly when they got home. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission drives the 2-speed transfer case and it's a good thing they added that lift kit, because the giant 35x12.50-15 off-road tires need every bit of space they can get. Nicely finished, lots of fun, and expertly built, this is an early Bronco that truly delivers on the promises made by its outrageous look. Take this 1968 Bronco "half cab" for example. With a set of wrenches and about 15 minutes, it goes from cool mini pickup to a fully open 4x4 beach comber. Add a fabric or lift-off hard top and you've got a standard Bronco, and none of it takes more than a few bolts. Cool, right? This one was originally born a full-cab converted into a half-cab, which was popular back in the day and easy to do today. In truth, the Bronco's modular nature means there's no real difference in value, but the cool thing with this one is that it was all restored at the same time, so it fits together extremely well. The bright red paint with white accents is a traditional Bronco look, and on a Mustang they might call it Candyapple Red. This one doesn't appear to have lived its life on the trails, with straight sheetmetal, excellent rockers, and fenders that are smooth and ripple-free and haven't been modified with oversized fender flares. The bed area now wears a spray-in bed liner material, and offers modest utility and the ability to go just about anywhere with your cargo. Slim chrome bumpers are about the only shiny bits on the body, but the white grille, stainless trim surrounding the body, and tall FORD letters on the tailgate give it a dressed-up look. We see a lot of early Broncos here at Streetside, and this one can be proudly added to the fleet. The interior is pretty stock, with bucket seats that look remarkably like they belong in a Mustang (they're close, but not quite exactly the same). Liberal use of sound-deadening materials makes the cabin nice and quiet on the road and there are black carpets on the floor that give it a more luxurious feel than the original rubber mat. The bright white instrument panel remains simple and utilitarian, with only basic instruments and controls, which also means there's less to go wrong when you're miles from home. The steering wheel is an aftermarket 3-spoke unit that could probably be replaced without anyone shedding a tear, although it's just the right diameter to work perfectly with the column-mounted shifter. The other lever on the floor is for the 2-speed transfer case underneath, an integral part of any Bronco's spec sheet. An AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit was built into the dash years ago but needs speakers to be complete once again. the heater and defroster are downright powerful. A torquey 289 cubic inch V8 lives under the hood, and we strongly suspect that it's the original engine for this truck. Nicely finished in Ford Blue with a correct air cleaner and "Powered by Ford" valve covers, it is obvious where the big money was spent on this restoration. It does show signs of use but no evidence that it's been banging around off road, and pretty stock specifications means that it's reliable and easy to service. A custom dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers gives it a muscular feel and sounds amazing, so you can forget about sneaking around in the woods with this one. The three-speed manual transmission is a little balky but you'll get the hang of it and it still powers the stock transfer case and axles. Relatively recent shocks and steering stabilizer give it a nice ride when you're on the pavement and shiny aluminum wheels carry 31x10.50-15 white-letter tires on all four corners. Early Broncos are still the most fun you can have playing in the dirt, and while this one isn't perfect, it always pays to buy good base stock. With more luxury, more performance, and, well, more everything than the venerable Jeep, this 1975 Ford Bronco is go-anywhere utility that looks equally at home on the trail and at the country club. While you see a lot of early Broncos with big tires and burly engines, restored examples like this are a refreshing change of pace. Wearing a factory color scheme of copper with a white hardtop, it has been faithfully preserved in pretty much the same state it must have been in, say, 1977. There's no evidence that this Bronco was ever left for dead, and the paint work is decent achieving a vintage look that seems appropriate, not over-restored. You'll note it has the dual tank option, which allows it to go just about anywhere, any time. Fit and finish are decent, and probably on par with what you'd get from the dealer when it was new and we like the contrasting look of the white fender flares which tie it all together quite nicely. Simple bumpers, a body-colored grille, and good glass all around further reinforce the idea that this truck has always been well-maintained and treated as something special. Handsome tan leather seats may seem inappropriate in a truck designed to play in the dirt, but the OEM materials mean that it is easy to clean and holds up well in use. Borrowed from a late-model, it works rather well in the boxy Bronco and even the back seat was apparently appropriated from the same vehicle, so it looks consistent throughout. New black carpets make it feel luxurious, not spartan, and the white dash and door panels keep everything nice and bright inside. The C4 3-speed automatic transmission is managed by a column-mounted shifter, and the lever in the center is for the 2-speed transfer case, and you'll find that everything has a direct, mechanical feel that's part of the Bronco's appeal. Basic factory gauges keep an eye on the engine, while an upgraded AM/FM radio provides better entertainment than the original AM unit might have. And, of course, you can always pull the hardtop and enjoy open-air off-roading the way it all started. The top engine in the Bronco was Ford's venerable 302 cubic inch V8 topped by a 2-barrel carburetor. Built for torque, not all-out performance, it moves the lightweight little truck with ease and makes great V8 sounds while doing it. The engine bay is largely original, although the engine itself is fresh, with bright Ford Blue paint, a rebuilt Autolite carburetor, and a correct air cleaner designed for the rigors of off-roading. The undercarriage is original, too, but there's no evidence of previous repairs or issues, and the stock axles and transfer case suggest that this truck has never been abused or assembled from parts. The exhaust system is new, and with power steering, it's easy to handle even in the rough stuff. Factory steel wheels from a later F-series truck look right on the Bronco and are wrapped in oversized off-road radials that give it a great stance. If you like them mostly stock, this one sticks to the factory recipe and looks great. With V8 power and an unusual color combination, this Bronco will win fans wherever it goes.
