1986 Ferrari Testarossa, Single Mirror, in the rare color of Blu Serra with Crema hide interior, complete with Ferrari factory luggage First supplied by Walnut Creek Ferrari on 8th August 1986, this single mirror car was delivered to a doctor in Modesto California, it was purchased in 2012 by the previous owner in San Francisco's Bay Area, I subsequently bought it from him.Finished in the superb color of Blu Serra, I have read that over 85% of Testarossas were finished in Rosso Corsa, a large number of the remainder were black, it is believed that less than 40 cars in the whole production were Blu Serra. The color defines the car and in my opinion is simply the best color on the carI have metered the paint and believe it to be the factory original, the only paintwork appearing to be on the top of the right rear quarter just behind the door, this area is a known trouble spot on the Testarossa as the passenger leans on this panel to get in and out. The last owner purchased the Testarossa in 2012 and immediately sent it to Brian Crall's Ferrari service in San Ramon for a complete engine out service including replacement of all service items including clutch, belts and all rubber hoses. At the same time the factory welded diff was replaced with a Forza Components 155099 unit, a preventative and highly recommended improvement as the factory diffs are known to break causing catastrophic damage to the engine casing. Whilst the motor was out Brain's team made a fabulous job of detailing the engine and surrounding compartment-as you can see from the pictures. The car has covered less then 350 miles since the work was done. The suspension was also stripped and thoroughly rebuilt including new bushings, plus servicing of the wheel bearings, all in all giving the Testarossa a quiet and tight setup.When the previous owner acquired the car it was fitted with a set of aftermarket wheels and so these were replaced using a set of factory correct and rare 16" items, a worthwhile improvement over the metric wheels more normally found on the early cars, the 16" wheels providing excellent tire choices.The exhaust system is fed by Sport Cats through a lovely sounding Tubi muffler, it has just the right amount of low down growl without being over noisy (factory Cats are included) with the sport cats the Testarossa blows flames.The toolkit appears to be complete and in its original bag, the jack and service light are also there, so too the factory owners wallet complete with service book- duly stamped and showing first owner, Owners handbook, all leaflets and supplements. The factory luggage is original and marked Testarossa, there are 5 pieces and all are in very good condition for their age although not perfect. This is a stunning example of Ferrari’s last mid-engine 12 cylinder Gran Touring car. It is finished in Nero Daytona, quite possibly the best color ever offered on the 512TR. This color does a perfect job of softening the numerous intakes and vents yet at the same time accentuating it’s gorgeous lines. The interior is black and it still looks and smells like new. This 512 runs and drives like it’s a new car. The engine starts instantly and idles smoothly and quietly. The transmission shifts perfectly and has no issues whatsoever. This was our daily driver throughout the recent Monterey car week and it performed flawlessly the entire time, even on hot days and in heavy traffic. These cars are an absolute joy to own and drive. We purchased this car in May of 2002 with 29,952 miles on it from the second owner who bought the car from Ferrari of Central Florida in April of 2001. According to the second owner this was the owner of Ferrari of Central Florida’s personal car who drove it for 26,500 miles before selling it. The service records we have start in February of 2000. For records prior to that you would have to talk with Ferrari of Central Florida. Our records show, (among other smaller items), an oil change in May of 2000 at 25,000 miles, a major engine out service with timing belt and new exhaust manifold gaskets in March of 2001 at 26,493 miles, an oil change and inspection in June of 2002 at 30,000 miles, an oil change in January of 2004 at 34,122 miles, and lastly a new clutch, new motor mounts and an oil change in March of 2007 at 37,771 miles. Obviously the car was rarely driven ever since, mostly due to the purchase of a 550 Maranello and other newer Ferraris. This car came from the factory with rare custom Ferrari two piece wheels which are included with the car. The Michelin’s on the 512TR wheels are only a year old with only 400 miles on them. The Michelin’s on the original two piece wheels are old and would need to be replaced. The car has never been in an any accidents and has only had it’s front bumper refinished. We have never taken the car on the track, it was primarily used as a highway cruiser between the Bay Area and Monterey, CA. (General info on the 512TR is available below the video) Background- Ferrari and Pininfarina designed the Testarossa to be larger than its predecessor. For instance, the Testarossa was half a foot wider than the Boxer. This resulted in an increased wheelbase that stretched about 64 mm (2.5 in) to 2,550 mm (100 in) which was used to accommodate luggage in a carpeted storage space under the front forward-opening hood.The increase in length created extra storage space behind the seats in the cabin. The design came from Pininfarina. The design team at Pininfarina consisted of Ian Cameron, Guido Campoli, Diego Ottina and Emanuele Nicosia. With little surprise, they were led by design chief Leonardo Fioravanti, the designer of many contemporary Ferraris. The design was originated by Nicosia, but the guidance of Fioravanti was equally important. Being a trained aerodynamist, Fioravanti applied his know-how to set the aerodynamics layout of the car. This meant the large side intakes were not only a statement of style but actually functional – they drew clean air to cool the side radiators and then went upward and left the car through the ventilation holes located at the engine lid and the tail. As a result, the Testarossa did not need a rear spoiler like Lamborghini's Countach yet produced zero lift at its rear axle. The aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.36 was also significantly better than the Lamborghini's 0.42. The Testarossa had twin radiators in the back with the engine instead of a single radiator up-front. In conjunction the strakes provided cool air to the rear-mounted side radiators, thus keeping the engine from overheating. The strakes also made the Testarossa wider at the rear than in the front, thus increasing stability and handling. Ferrari improved traction by adding 10-inch-wide alloy rear wheels. The 512 TR sports a 4.9 litre (4,943 cc or 301.6 cu in) Ferrari V12 longitudinally mid mounted. Each cylinder has four valves, with forty-eight valves total, lubricated via a dry sump system, and a compression ratio of 10.00:1. These combine to provide a maximum torque of 362 ft lbs at 5500 rpm and a maximum power of 428 hp at 6750 rpm. It's livery is all original in Rossa Corsa (Ferrari Red). Having no history of accidents or damage, the paint is all original and reveals a history of affection and use. The front has a number of very fine chips that one would expect to find after 17,700 miles. This, of course, is far preferred to a motorcar with a sorted history of accidents or neglect (and, God forbid, a mysterious repaint!). Inside the passenger cabin is the supple tan leather one expects to find in the ultimate Italian performance coupe. The leather is in overall excellent condition with a few areas reflecting limited wear. These are highlighted in detail in the high resolution photos and inspection video. The drivetrain is fantastic! The gorgeous tones of the roaring V12 are accentuated through the custom PowerTone exhaust system that was specifically designed for this particular car. It is unique and wonderful! The original exhaust is included in the sale. We love the complete set of original tools, books and records for this Testarossa. (General info on the 512TR is available below the video) Background- Ferrari and Pininfarina designed the Testarossa to be larger than its predecessor. For instance, the Testarossa was half a foot wider than the Boxer. This resulted in an increased wheelbase that stretched about 64 mm (2.5 in) to 2,550 mm (100 in) which was used to accommodate luggage in a carpeted storage space under the front forward-opening hood.The increase in length created extra storage space behind the seats in the cabin. The design came from Pininfarina. The design team at Pininfarina consisted of Ian Cameron, Guido Campoli, Diego Ottina and Emanuele Nicosia. With little surprise, they were led by design chief Leonardo Fioravanti, the designer of many contemporary Ferraris. The design was originated by Nicosia, but the guidance of Fioravanti was equally important. Being a trained aerodynamist, Fioravanti applied his know-how to set the aerodynamics layout of the car. This meant the large side intakes were not only a statement of style but actually functional – they drew clean air to cool the side radiators and then went upward and left the car through the ventilation holes located at the engine lid and the tail. As a result, the Testarossa did not need a rear spoiler like Lamborghini's Countach yet produced zero lift at its rear axle. The aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.36 was also significantly better than the Lamborghini's 0.42. The Testarossa had twin radiators in the back with the engine instead of a single radiator up-front. In conjunction the strakes provided cool air to the rear-mounted side radiators, thus keeping the engine from overheating. The strakes also made the Testarossa wider at the rear than in the front, thus increasing stability and handling. Ferrari improved traction by adding 10-inch-wide alloy rear wheels. The 512 TR sports a 4.9 litre (4,943 cc or 301.6 cu in) Ferrari V12 longitudinally mid mounted. Each cylinder has four valves, with forty-eight valves total, lubricated via a dry sump system, and a compression ratio of 10.00:1. These combine to provide a maximum torque of 362 ft lbs at 5500 rpm and a maximum power of 428 hp at 6750 rpm.
