Some cars are called the poster-child for a company, but for an entire generation, the Testarossa was genuinely the poster of choice for every child's room. The wild styling of Testarossa earned this envy because it was how a supercar from Ferrari should look. While the car's redhead name is a reference to the cam covers and a tribute to the legendary 250 TR, it's also really the best color for this iconic prancing horse. Of course we say that because the paintwork on our exceptionally well-preserved classic is the kind of pristine many in our showroom have described as "flawless." This is a sign of special care that you can see in every picture of this thoroughly original Ferrari. While all Testarossas came with the same angular and aggressive styling that ran from the long flat nose right through the seductively wide rear end, this one was the final year for the now-collectable "flying mirror". The high mounted single driver mirror is a piece of brazen automotive asymmetry that could only be pulled off with this car's Italian flair. The Testarossa represented the upper echelon of society, and so of course, the interior delivered a level of refinement worthy of its price tag. The Nero leather seats still look amazing, especially with the prancing horse embossed in the headrest. They are grippy enough for a supercar, but Ferrari made sure that the Testarossa had a grand touring level of comfort. That's also why these cars came with comfort features like air conditioning, power seats, power steering, power windows, tilt steering wheel, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo neatly tucked away under a cover on the dashboard. All of this was standard equipment straight from Maranello. In fact, there was only one option for the Testarossa. This coupe's six-piece Schedoni custom luggage set that fits behind the seats and trunk has the kind of rarity that starts bidding wars all on its own. The mid-mounted 4.9-liter boxer V12 was the culmination of this motor at Ferrari. The 380 hp fuel-injected engine was a 14% increase in power over the last Berlinetta Boxer predecessor, and the Testarossa had 0 to 60 mph times could compete with its cross-Italy rival, the Lamborghini Countach. But since this has matured into a classic that's welcomed at any concours, there is a new set of rules in Testarossa shopping. This is a fully numbers-matching car with exceptionally low miles at 14,277. The CarFax on this car is 100% clean and reports no issues. When a car has averaged less than 500 miles per year, the next step is to look at its maintenance records. You'll see that this Ferrari has not only been preserved, but also maintained. Improvements Over the Testarossa The 512 TR's engine was modified in a number of ways compared to the original Testarossa. Nikasil liners were added, along with a new air intake system, Bosch engine management system, larger intake valves, and a revised exhaust system. In addition to the higher peak power, the modifications delivered a broader power curve for better acceleration. Gearshifting effort, long a complaint about the Testarossa, was eased with a new single-plate clutch, sliding ball bearings, and better angle for the shifter. The braking system included larger front rotors and cross-drilling all around. Quicker steering, lower-profile tires, and new shock settings improved handling. Most importantly, engine and gearbox position was rethought, which improved the centre of gravity, aiding the handling and making the car less fearsome on the limit. The interior was revised too, with the center console split from the dashboard, and the climate controls relocated. 1986 Ferrari Testarossa, Single Mirror, in the rare color of Blu Serra with Crema hide interior, complete with Ferrari factory luggage First supplied by Walnut Creek Ferrari on 8th August 1986, this single mirror car was delivered to a doctor in Modesto California, it was purchased in 2012 by the previous owner in San Francisco's Bay Area, I subsequently bought it from him.Finished in the superb color of Blu Serra, I have read that over 85% of Testarossas were finished in Rosso Corsa, a large number of the remainder were black, it is believed that less than 40 cars in the whole production were Blu Serra. The color defines the car and in my opinion is simply the best color on the carI have metered the paint and believe it to be the factory original, the only paintwork appearing to be on the top of the right rear quarter just behind the door, this area is a known trouble spot on the Testarossa as the passenger leans on this panel to get in and out. The last owner purchased the Testarossa in 2012 and immediately sent it to Brian Crall's Ferrari service in San Ramon for a complete engine out service including replacement of all service items including clutch, belts and all rubber hoses. At the same time the factory welded diff was replaced with a Forza Components 155099 unit, a preventative and highly recommended improvement as the factory diffs are known to break causing catastrophic damage to the engine casing. Whilst the motor was out Brain's team made a fabulous job of detailing the engine and surrounding compartment-as you can see from the pictures. The car has covered less then 350 miles since the work was done. The suspension was also stripped and thoroughly rebuilt including new bushings, plus servicing of the wheel bearings, all in all giving the Testarossa a quiet and tight setup.When the previous owner acquired the car it was fitted with a set of aftermarket wheels and so these were replaced using a set of factory correct and rare 16" items, a worthwhile improvement over the metric wheels more normally found on the early cars, the 16" wheels providing excellent tire choices.The exhaust system is fed by Sport Cats through a lovely sounding Tubi muffler, it has just the right amount of low down growl without being over noisy (factory Cats are included) with the sport cats the Testarossa blows flames.The toolkit appears to be complete and in its original bag, the jack and service light are also there, so too the factory owners wallet complete with service book- duly stamped and showing first owner, Owners handbook, all leaflets and supplements. The factory luggage is original and marked Testarossa, there are 5 pieces and all are in very good condition for their age although not perfect.
