Before we begin this ad, we would like to address a mystery that has surrounded the 1970 Chevelle SS for years. In 1970, approximately 51,000 SS 396, RPO Z25 Chevelles were manufactured. However, at every car show, cruise, or auctions nationwide, there are hundreds always on display. How can this be? The answer is very simple. They are clones or reproductions! The 1970 Chevelle SS is one of the most counterfeited models in the muscle car hobby. It is also one of the easiest to reproduce. There are absolutely no proprietary numbers, codes, vin indicators, etc. exposed or hidden on an SS that definitively prove the authenticity, that cannot be faked or reproduced. In addition, virtually every SS component is now available from aftermarket suppliers. Building a clone is as easy as ordering parts and assembling the car. So how can the buyers be positive they are purchasing the real deal? Simple- documentation. Original, rock solid documentation, not reproduced paperwork with a cup of Folger’s coffee spilled on it. This is a serious problem in Chevelle circles, and unfortunately many “Chevelle SS” owners nationwide don’t realize they are in the possession of a fake. It has been rumored for years that GM actually has the same documents in the archives as they had for Pontiac, Buick, etc. They supposedly are afraid to make this available to the public due to the legal problems that would arise due to the sheer volume of clones already out there.
