1973 Z/28 RS-LT with factory A/C. The original owner bought it with every available option except the vinyl top (power windows were late availability). The dealer installed dual-point ignition, an Edelbrock intake, Holley carburetor and a local muffler shop installed Hooker headers. It was a second vehicle for him, so he only put 13,000 miles on it between 1973-1982. The person that I bought it from was searching for a Corvette in 1982 when he stumbled across an ad in the Wheeler Dealer magazine for this car. He fell in love with it and took it home. It was also a second car for him, and like the first owner would only drive it in sunny weather. He put an additional 48,000 miles on it between 1982 and when I purchased it. I have it listed at 62,000 miles because I still drive it frequently so it might go over the 62,000 while this listing runs. I was very skeptical when the person that I bought it from told me that car had never been driven in the rain until I looked under the hood and read the original paper oil change sticker from the selling dealer on the radiator support from 1973. Any rain under the hood would have destroyed the sticker. The car was maintained by the same shop for the past 33 years. It has received hoses, belts and other general maintenance items, but it was never altered beyond the original dealer-installed components. It still has the entire original interior down to the floor mats, with the exception of the rear seat back that was professionally recovered using factory fabric. The carburetor, ignition and headers were replaced in 2008 instead of restoring the old ones, and the car was repainted in a base/clear version of the dark red metallic. The owner hated to repaint it, but the original lacquer paint was starting to checker badly from age. He turned it over to one of the best painters in his area for a year and told him to take his time and do it right. He took the liberty of removing the LT badges from the car when it was repainted, but they come with the car if you want to have them reinstalled. It is a no-excuses, unrestored and lightly dealer-modified car. It is one of the best 2nd Generation (1970 - 1973) Z/28's that you will find. The original motor and transmission have never been removed or rebuilt, as the car was adult owned and never abused. The original Firestone Wide Oval spare tire has never been removed from the trunk. The car still has all of the original glass, including the windshield. It is very hard to find one that hasn't been modified with a different radio, speakers, drivetrain, etc. It still has the original center caps and trim rings on the wheels, which have the correct rough textured paint instead of ones that you commonly see that are restored with darker grey and too much sheen to them. I have priced the car in line with the current Haggerty valuation guide, where a #1 condition value is $57,000.00, and the #2 condition value is $43,320.00. Starting with a rust free California donor car, the builder embarked on a project that yielded a show quality car that can be driven reliably cross country or around town. The car gets 22 MPG on the highway and lays down a solid 411 ponies! The Chevrolet was stripped down to a bare metal shell and was rebuilt piece by piece from the ground up. It features new hardware throughout, restored trim, and new chrome. The undercarriage is finished in bed liner for durability and ease of cleaning, and the car uses bolt in subframe connectors for extra rigidity in the uni body. The rest of the interior is new and stays pretty true to original form with the exception of a set of much needed ProCar seats and a new headunit. The LS engine sits in the middle of a nicely manicured engine compartment. It's free from afterthoughts and just gets down to business with quality components and a simple layout. The LS engine is a pretty simple set up with a Texas Speed cam and a tune by Speartech. The motor is an L92 6.2 litre and had 3,000 miles on it when it was used in the Camaro build. The motor lays down a meaty 411 HP and 400 lb-ft of very useable power. It uses and LS3 intake and drive-by-wire throttle body. The motor exhausts through a set of Dynatech headers with 1 7/8" primaries and a 3" collector. The exhaust pipes are 2 1/5" and flow into Dynomax turbo mufflers. It's all handmade using mandrel sections. The transmission is a TKO-600 which uses a GM LS7 clutch and flywheel. It can take plenty more power while retaining the buttery smooth engagement of a new factory built car. The rear end is the 8.5" 10 bolt packed with an Eaton Tru-Trac, Richmond 3.73 gears, Moser 31 Spline axles. The suspension uses the stock subframe with tubular control arms and QA1 coil overs. The steering box is a AGR 1:1 power box and the rear uses Hotchkis leafs with Bilstein shocks. The car has a wonderful ride that combines nice handling characteristics with a smooth cruise. It will not beat you up over bumps and is nice and quiet around town. The front brakes are Corvette C6 calipers with 13" rotors and the rear brakes are off the latest gen. Camaro. They are very responsive and perfectly balanced for the power of the car. This build is so clean, it really takes on the appearance of a factory built car.
