VERY RARE 1968 RS/SS Camaro4 spd Convertible Matching NumbersGreat Investment This rare 68 RS/SS was owned by a little old lady who purchased the car new & owned it for 35 yrs. In 2003 she sold it to her neighbor who had it painted and the L48 engine & the Muncie tranny rebuilt to factory specs. I purchased the car from her neighbor in 2016. Since 2003 there has only been a little more then 20,000 miles put on this beautiful machine. This RS/SS is in excellent condition a strong # 2. # 1 being a trailer queen # 5 being a basket case. The interior is in great condition the high back headrest bucket seats are not original they are from a 69. The only thing it needs is each bucket seat has a 2 inch area that has to be restitched. These are NOT tears it's right on the seam where the stitching separated in the exact same spot on each seat. I was quoted a price of $206 only $103 a seat but she can't take it until after the new year. The hideaway headlight switch needs to be replaced too but also can't be repaired until after the new year. I only bring my cars to one shop, the good news is he does a great job, the bad news is sometimes you have to wait. I recently had a new heater core replaced, oil change and 4 new tires added. In my 55 yrs I've owned about 45 muscle cars mostly big blocks. There's only two small blocks I've owned that can not only hang with the big blocks but beat some one is this RS/SS & an AAR Cuda I once owned. The paint still shines great there's only a couple of little nicks & one spot by the antenna that could use a little attention. The convertible top is in excellent condition along with the tonneau cover. This is one very rare & special vehicle. Click on the large photo so you can get a better idea of the condition of this beauty. This RS/SS runs and drives as good as it looks, has great acceleration too, no disappointments here. Here is some info I found on car gurus: There were 40,977 RS's and 30,695 SS's produced in 1968. Of course, many fewer than this survive today.I also looked on a number of sites to try and find out specifically now many RS/SS models were made but apparently it is so rare that most Camaro sites don't list it as a trim. I did find one site that said "It is impossible to determine how many "base" models were produced because certain options were combined with others (for example, you could combine the Rally Sport option with the Super Sport, Z/28, and Custom Interior options), and there is no breakdown of production numbers when options were combined." I also happened to come across a 1968 Camaro RS/SS with the 350 badges and also a rally sport badge behind the front tire but it has a white nose strip, white leather seats, and a white rag top. also has auto windows, locks and driver seat. but the number of sites that i looked on the common number i found was about 600 to 700 RS/SS's were made back in 1968 but like the one guy said most of those cars did not survive to this day so that number could be drastically less. could possible be under 100 or above 100 so defiantly restore that thing. cargurus*com/Cars/Discussion-t32837_ds41625Before you bid make sure you checkout my feedback so you can bid with confidence !! CALL ME FOR ALL QUESTIONS AT 516-721-3951 LOU, OR EMAIL IS FINE. I just lowered the price to $17500 and I need very close to that. If you can find one of these for less...then you should BUY IT! Thanks for the incredible amount of views and watchers! I have never had this many of either! This is a real deal, somewhat of a survivor RS Camaro with X-11 code and matching #s 307 ci engine still in the car and running excellent that is in need of some rust repair! This is a very decent unmolested car! The original matching numbers auto transmission shifts well and I would recommend going through all fluids and check the brakes before driving any long distances. The gas tank and fuel is new so the car has been gone through somewhat. The rear is a 10 bolt and I am not sure if it is the original rear but I would absolutely assume so! It is a factory deluxe interior car with power steering and power top but did come with a column shift, odd combo?....yes! I have a very nice used center console that comes with the car (pictured) along with the shifter, harness for the lights and mounting brackets! So, it is complete and ready to install permanently. The interior appears to be original and is in nice shape as you can see and the car has an original 99k miles on it! The top is very nice but the rear window could definitely be more clear. The trunk will need replacing and one rear frame rail is swollen and rotted a bit so that should be replaced. The pics don't show the trunk closer to the rear where it is rotted more and the center looks like it was glassed many years ago...bottom line, it needs a trunk pan eventually and I forgot to take those pics, sorry! The headlight doors do not work which I am sure you assumed already. It needs a new fan shroud. The quarters will need replacing as I believe they are the originals and are rotted. The cowl hood is very nice. Bottom line is that the car deserves a full restoration but you could drive it as you restore it! 1972 RS/Z-28--43,000 original 1 owner miles!!!!This is a real Z!!! it has the L in the VIN-and has Z-28 on the trim tag-and I have documentation from new--This is a 1 owner car-I have the documentation going back to new--Including original invoice and all paperwork from new-It is not a matching # car however-He blew up the motor back in the 80's drag racing--It now has a GM crate motor -I have all receipts for this and was done at a Chevy Dealership-Including the purchase and installation of the motor--I think he paid around 6k to have this done-I have every receipt from new-I even have pictures of the car from 1972 when the car was new-Now this is a project car for someone-The biggest issue with the car is it has a soft spot on the rear frame rail behind the drivers side back tire-I have pics showing this-please see them-It isn't too bad but its there and needs repair-The rail is available from any Camaro parts company-I thought about fixing it but I wanted the new owner to see the car in its original state-Its weird as the floor pans and trunk in the car are good-and the front frame is excellent-I was told its an issue on the 70-73 Camaros--The car runs really good and is a Muncie 4 speed that is correct to the car-the car still retains its original 4:10 rear axle ratio-Yeah you can start off the line in 4th gear!-Its a true Cranberry red car-and its rare from what I have read-I was told just a 72 Z- with a 4 speed is super rare but then add the RS package with it-Not sure exactly how rare but I was told its extremely low--The car was painted a long time ago-I have the receipt-and now all the clear coat has been peeling off in places-see the pics-But the body itself is pretty darn straight-Does have some bubbling on the bottom of the one door and on the fender and part of the quarter but its just starting-please see the pics--I do have the original radio-its in the back seat-It needs to be restored or drive it as it is-The slot rims that are on the car have been on there since 1972 along with the really old Cragars and the oldest BF Goodrich tires I have ever seen!!! Never seen them that old-they are from the early 70'2--the tires on the slot rims are new--But the pictures I have of the car back in 1972 show both sets of those wheels-they are from 72-both sets!--Like I said its a true 1 owner documented 43,000 mile car!!!!!! and its a real RS/Z-28 Its as rare as they come and is a project but worth fixing!!-Please feel free to ask questions or come and see the car--This is being sold as is --please see all the pictures and ask questions--I require a $1000 deposit immediately following the auction-and full payment is due within 7 days-I can store the car until shipping is arranged but the car must be paid for immediately--Its a real deal RS Z-28-4 speed with 4:10's--
