This listing is for a rare Manx style dune buggy. I was told by the previous owner that the engine is a 1640cc. This vehicle also comes with a tan Vinyl Top & a well made tow bar - it tows nicely. My understanding is that this Dune Buggy is called a "Thunder Bug" and it was made by "Manx House", which was later known as "Bugformance" in Sunnyvale, CA. Here is some info on the Thunder Bug: Thunder Bug was Custom Built mold made by Clay Diekmann and Tony Vierra of Manx House (a dune buggy shop) in 1968 in Sunnyvale California. The shop later became known as Bugformance. There were only 50-70 of these bodies produced. They were handlaid fiberglass construction with chopper gun re-inforcements. They were designed to be the same dimensions as it's cousin the Manx. Tailbox was raised for more clearance. Hood appears designed for more tank clearance. Dash and hood thicker than most manx kits. Interior surfaces were textured . Later versions were molded with tube under fender for wiring harness. Trans is a Wrights Gear box freeway flyer manual trans w/ stock clutch. Motor is a 1915CC dual port w/40 mm weber knock off carbs. Dual cannon exhaust, Tulsa motor sports belt system w/billet alt stand, polished alt., breather system w/braided lines,009 dist. w/pertronix ignition, Dog house fan shroud, remote oil filter, Motor has been tuned properly and runs very well. Interior has prp seats in front (suspension) rears are fiber glass w/ prp covers, Air craft style seat belts front and rear, All gauges are pro comp sport and all work with gps sender for speedo. 6 point roof support system w/padding and covers. 1964 Volkswagen-based Manx-style fiberglass dune buggy (California Clipper body style). 1641cc fully-chromed engine with stinger exhaust, over $2000 in recent engine/clutch work. New wiring throughout the car. Have some of the receipts from previous owners dating back to the 70's, it appears to have been an LA area car its entire life. It has a battery cut-off switch, all the lights function, speedometer and odometer work. Floor pans and gas tank have been treated with a rust inhibitor. It has a radio in the dash, but it did not come with a faceplate or speakers when I bought the buggy and I've never been interested in replacing them. New starter (6/7/14) and new front tires (6/9/14). It could use a few things (trim work around the edges of the carpet, some paint touch-ups, freshen up the engine [there is normal wear after 50 years], adjust the lengthen of the fuel gauge cable, re-install the gas tank vent line, etc.), but it doesn't look too bad and is currently running and driving just fine.It's street legal, I have a clean title, and the registration was just renewed (good through July of 2015). No smog is needed. It's a great buggy that can be driven and enjoyed as is, or it could be taken to the next level. The usual disclaimers apply: it runs and drives, but it is a 50 year-old buggy.
