It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable... we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money." - The Autocar What would turn out to be the final glorious incarnation of Jaguar's fabulous 'XK' series of sports cars arrived in 1957. As its nomenclature suggests, the XK150 was a progressive development of the XK120 and XK140, retaining the same basic chassis, 3.4-liter engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors while benefiting from a new, wider body that provided increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen, replacing the XK140's divided screen. Cleverly, the new body used many XK120/140 pressings, the increased width being achieved by means of a 4"-wide central fillet. A higher front wing line and broader radiator grille were other obvious differences, but the new model's main talking point was its Dunlop disc brakes. Fade following repeated stops from high speed had been a problem of the earlier, drum-braked cars, but now the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed and drophead coupé forms, the open roadster version not appearing until the following year. At 190bhp, the engine's maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. 'Special Equipment' and 'S' versions came with 210 and 250bhp respectively, the latter delivering an astonishing 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. This was achieved by the introduction of the Weslake-developed 'straight-port' cylinder head, high-compression pistons, triple 2" SU carburetors and twin electric fuel pumps. In the autumn of 1959 the XK150 became available with the 3.8-liter engine first seen in the Mark IX saloon. 'Standard' (220bhp) or 'S' (265bhp) states of tune were offered and, in either form, the XK150's increased weight was more than offset by the power of the larger engine, the car regularly recording in excess of 130mph in magazine road tests. This fine XK150 Drophead Coupe is one of the very coveted 3.8-liter models. The car's previous owner had a desire to upgrade the Jaguar to be even sportier, and had the car thoroughly refurbished with several tasteful upgrades. Michigan-based Jaguar specialist Bill Terry fitted a custom fuel injection system on the matching-numbers 3.8-liter engine, as well as performing other engine work. A cleverly engineered system with Bosch injectors hidden in the intake manifold, utilizing the butterfly throttles of the SU carburetors for air, the fuel management is handled by a Simple Digital Systems ECU. This is a construction that is hard to recognize from the outside but helps in both reliability and performance, especially if driving at altitude. The original 4-speed overdrive Moss gearbox has been replaced with a modern 5-speed transmission, and an upgraded clutch was installed. It should be noted that the original numbers-matching transmission is included in the sale of the car. Air conditioning is gracefully integrated into the dash, and under-hood heat is managed by a custom designed system that extracts hot air through hidden pumps and dumps it out through vents in the front fenders. Other upgrades include a variable electric power steering system, an alloy radiator, and a modern alternator. The XK150 presented here has been fitted with the desirable E-Type Series I bucket seats neatly fitted with period correct Burgundy leather, combined with the walnut dash from an XK140 and a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel. This Jaguar has a tasteful interior where one can spend many hours enjoying this all-time British favorite.

It is a wonderful roadster in Concourse condition with a lively and notable pedigree. The story begins in 1948, where the XK120 first appeared as a prototype at the London Motor Show. The prototype of the two-seat XK120 caused such a sensation that Jaguar boss William Lyons went back to his offices and immediately put the car into production.Today, the XK120 continues to excite Jaguar collectors. It was manufactured just a few short years – from 1948 to 1954, but ultimately became a classic thanks to its performance heritage, drivability and stunning good looks.This is a matching numbers XK120 with the Jaguar Heritage certificate. It is a prime example of the era, and is certainly a rare find. Here is what we have learned about the car.Jaguar originally delivered the car to U.S. Army Major Alan Fisher when he was assigned to duty in Dusseldorf, Germany. After Fisher completed his tour, he had the shipped back to his home in Stockton, California.Each of the owners since new have preserved the XK120 to the highest standards. In fact, the XK120 was excellently stewarded for more than 30 years by the previous owner, and it drives beautifully.This numbers matching California original Jaguar with 53,160 miles showing on the odometer has been refreshed in a stunning cream over cream color combination, with maroon piping and maroon soft-top and side curtains. To give you an idea of how well this XK120 runs, the previous owner drove it from Arizona to Northern California in 2014, where it was featured in events during the week of the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. Again, in 2015 he drove it from Arizona to Southern California, where it became part of the BlueChip Motorcars’ fleet of classics. This particular XK120 was also a featured exhibitor at the 2015 6th Annual Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance in Beverly Hills, California.Additionally, this XK120 was ordered with unique chrome options, which were not available in the later XK120 models. We can be reached by telephone at 248.594.5906. or by email at [email protected] 1953 JAGUAR XK120 - DROP HEAD COUPE - GENUINE RIGHT HAND DRIVE - ALL NUMBERS MATCHING - ENGINE RUNS FINE  Shown here on Ebay I am reluctantly offering this XK120 DHC.  Since it requires (and deserves) a proper restoration that I cannot provide at this time I am willing to sell it on. Of all my XK120's I treasure this the very most because it is a "proper" Right Hand Drive XK120.  Yes, I know that the United States is a left hand drive country but, call me crazy, I wish ALL of my British cars were RHD!  Regardless of my own personal preferences, the XK120 Drop Head Coupes were the rarest of the three variants produced and only a meager HANDFUL (294) RHD XK120 DHCs were produced.  Coupled with the fact that this is a 100% numbers matching example AND the engine even runs, well, this is the one to have if you are looking for one to restore.  It is entirely possible that there may not even be another left with these qualifications in the world today.  This XK120 is all original, nearly complete and all of the important items are present: the engine, gearbox , chassis number stampings and body tag are all the same components it left Coventry with. To top it off, the original engine runs! It was beyond thrilling when my Jaguar master mechanic colleague David got it started after a slumber of nearly a half century.  With the original Black exterior color and the Biscuit interior with Black hood (top), this example will be a stunning Black Beauty when restored. The spats (fender skirts) on this model enhance the elegance of the somewhat formal Drophead Coupé. While this example has the cutaway spats that came with it from the UK, one could put full spats on it if desired. Imagine this perfectly restored with flawless Black paint and the light Biscuit interior. Include the gleaming, book-matched burl walnut dash with its matching, surrounding wood cappings graced with the Black, fully padded and lined hood. Add its original UK registration plates of 478BMF to the front and rear you will have a breathtaking automotive icon worthy of Pebble Beach.                         SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ALL OF THE IMAGES OF THIS JAGUAR PROVENANCE OF THIS XK120 DHC  This particular car has an interesting provenance.  Built 29 October 1953 it is the 119th RHD DHC built out of a total of 294. It was originally purchased by its first London owner at Henley's Ltd in London. I correspond with the former Royal Navy Pilot airman in Scotland that owned it after the owner in London sold it and I have from him some anecdotes about the car that really make this car come alive with history and excitement. There may also be some 8mm movie footage of the car available from that long ago time period. Read this quote from him about this car: "I was 22 years old and had just arrived at the Royal Air Force Base outside York that was dedicated to training Navy pilots for their initial "Wings" Flying Training... and it so happened that another Lieutenant who had just passed out was about to get married, needed cash and was looking for a buyer for his Powder Blue Jaguar XK120 with its leather strap over the bonnet (hood to you!)... bought for 520 pounds cash... and the rest was history. Together we did a lot of miles... and had unforgettable fun, excitement... and scrapes that would appall a modern Policeman or Good Citizen. From downtown York to our base was ten miles of single carriageway, half of it twisty lanes... but coming back from late nights out there were three places where we could exceed a Ton... though the last one required coming out of a sleepy Yorkshire village double hairpin turn at more than 45 mph with the foot hard down in second gear... which didn't exactly endear us or the exhaust to the locals...!!!"   Being a hopeless romantic, I asked for and was given by the previous owner a detailed Google map of the route he took so I could re-live that route on the map. Can you imagine being a 22 year old Royal Navy Pilot and tearing up the lanes with this motor-car back in 1961?  By the way, there is an image below, taken in 1961, of him behind the wheel... It was eventually sold on to an American airman stationed in England who then brought it here to the United States. It ended up in a garage in Virginia for almost 50 years and stayed there until it came to me in Michigan. MECHANICAL CONDITION  As stated before, the engine runs and when the Virginia owner took it apart in 1972 he said that the engine was to stay intact because it ran well.  Nearly all of the mechanical components are there and what is missing can be sourced.  Most importantly, all of the mechanical components are the ones that the ones it left Coventry with. COSMETIC CONDITION  Way back when, this DHC was partially disassembled in Virginia with the high hopes of restoring it but the project stalled. Now the body has been loosely put back together and most of the original interior is back in the car. As far as the condition of the exterior sheet metal, I will not kid you here: it will require a lot of work.  It looks like an XK120 that spent about ten years on the road in an East Coast state.  XK's rusted out quickly because there was little or no rustproofing measures like we see today.  It most definitely is not a rotted mess that has sat in a farmer's field for 50 years (been there, bought that!). I have seen far worse XK120 restoration projects that were successfully completed. It needs sills, a boot floor and gas tank, exterior panel repairs, etc, in fact almost all of the usual repairs they need but, frankly, the extreme rarity of this car makes any amount of effort worthwhile. The body and chassis have not had major accident damage. Importantly, the chassis is really a strong point and is in wonderful condition wearing a fair amount of its original black paint. I know these cars intimately and this chassis and the components attached to it are in amazing condition. Included with the XK120 are some assorted boxes of loose parts that are original to the car to help complete it. This beautiful replica car is for somebody who wants a Jaguar XK-140 without the inherent hassles of owning the original article. Everybody loves the styling of a 1950s Jaguar Roadster. But who wants the maintenance? I originally bought this car because I had always wanted a Jaguar XK140. Yet I knew of the high maintenance, and didn't really want to own a car that would be in the shop more often than on the road! Reasons why this replica car makes sense: This car has an AUTOMATIC transmission. Easy to drive with no shifting hassles. It has a 1980s 4-cyl Ford Mustang engine, steering, and running gear, which is easy to work on, and parts are so common that you can buy them at your local auto part store!Equipped with a CD player! Are you really going to find an original 1950s Jag with a CD player? Nope. No tunes there! It is meant for cruising and enjoying, not fussy shows and expensive high maintenance ownership.The original, genuine article costs $150,000 and then you're going to be afraid of scratching it or getting a door ding! This car started its life a 1952 Jaguar XK120 roadster kit car, and it is titled as such. However, it has been upgraded (over $6400 of time, parts, labor in upgrades) with chrome and trim to become a 1956 model XK140, the much better looking late-series model made in 1956 and 1957. From 1952 to 1955 Jaguar made the XK-120, and then in 1956 they added some lovely chrome to make the XK-140. It's much more elegant, and better looking than the XK120. (do a google search on that) It is EXTREMELY RARE to find an XK-140 replica. Nearly all Jaguar XK replicas out there are 1950s. Go ahead, do a web search and try. You probably will not be able to find one anywhere. Plenty of the XK-120 models, however. Why? The Chrome Trim, which really "makes" the car, costs big bucks. We're talking thousands of dollars in just the bumpers alone. The chrome badges, etc. Most people do not opt for these upgrades because the XK120 is passable. Take a good hard look at the differences between the XK120 and the XK140. The 140 is the clear winner. Mechanical: Ready to go! It has a strong running Ford Mustang 4-cyl engine, steering and running gear. I believe this engine to be from the 1980s based upon the serial number. How many miles? I am not quite sure-- there is no real way to tell with an engine that has been extracted from another car and placed into a kit car. I will say that it is running extremely well. Was not started for over 6 months and fired right up! Overall it is an extremely common and easy to work on engine. One of those engines that just about any mechanic can work on-- or you can do so yourself in your driveway because you can see everything! You can buy parts for it at your local Napa, O'Reilly, or whatever auto parts store, unlike the horrendous 1950s Jag engines. Cosmetic: This really becomes a question of how picky you are. The paint looks good from 20 feet away (as you can see in the pictures). But if you want a show car, you will want to repaint it and do some work. There are a few blemishes in the paint. It's not as perfect show car inside or out, but makes one heck of a great ice cream getter. However, I get people asking me all the time "is it an original?". If you have to ask, the answer to that question is always "YES!". ;) So maybe the imperfect paint speaks moreso as a patina? It's really a matter of personal choice or opinion. I have not had the desire to repaint this. Everybody has different standards of what they want. If you want a new Lexus convertible with heated seats and cruise control... this is not the car for you. This is a very unique and special enthusiast car that turns heads where-ever it goes.
