The fuel injection pushed these 283 CID V8 engines to 1 horsepower per cubic inch, which was almost unheard of in 1957! The fuel injected 283 is backed by a 4 speed manual transmission that lets you hold the reins on this classic sports car. The sweet rumble of the newly installed exhaust system is music to the ears and lets you know this car is no slouch. The completely refurbished red interior is clean %26 comfortable for cruising the town or to the local car show. You are bidding on an extremely rare, original late 50's/early 60's-era Chevrolet Corvette amusement park ride. This was a kids ride, used on a enclosed track at an amusement park, and is the only one known left to exist today. It it 99% complete, and it retains the original Continental engine, wearing its original paint, and it spins freely. It steers, it has an accelerator, and the "shifter" is actually a "brake" that pulls back on a belt that slows the ride down. This is a very well constructed piece, and not some cheaply made item. Both rear wheels are chain driven. The wheel hubs have zerk fittings to allow them to be greased/serviced. The tires are mismatched, so it's clear that this little car got some serious use at the amusement park over the years it was in service! Other than the tag on the engine, there is no other markings on it to indicate who was the original manufacturer of it. The serial number on the engine starts with "54" so there's a possibility that this could have been constructed in '53/'54. Exact age is not known, but my guess is that it was well before 1960. The condition is suprisingly good given the age, and the fact that it likely saw thousands and thousands of laps around the track it was confined to. The fiberglass body is not broken, the frame is not damaged, and other than a part of the hood trim and the windshield, it's exceeding complete! This has been in my private collection for the past 20+ years. My intention was to restore it one day, but I have not got around to it, so I am putting it up for sale. Cars & Parts magazine did some research and a story on this car many years ago, and they were unable to find or document another one, thus giving us the belief that it's the only one known to exist. Properly restored, most Corvette collectors believe the value of this car could exceed $20,000, possibly even more. The current owner purchased the car because it is a great car with a great color combination, but its also the fact that it received a frame off restoration approx. 25 yrs ago, and today looks as if it was done a few years ago. You can tell the car was very professionally, and painstakingly done. The true testament to the quality of a restoration is not what it looks like when its done but how does it look years down the road. This car has held up so beautifully it is almost hard to believe. Current owner of this car is certainly an automobile and especially a Corvette enthusiast and owns several. Paint-* Paint is very smooth and shiny in all areas and matches very well all the way around, and without a doubt was professionally done.* We did not find any scratches in the paint.* The paint has been polished to a very smooth finish that shows very minimal orange peel effect with just a touch more being present on the hood. (again very minimal)* Under florescent lights, and at just the right angle you might see a few minor imperfections, but it is about as high of quality as we have seen on these vehicles. (being extremely critical you will see a few light marks that were created by the hardtop rubber seal and could probably be rubbed out to some degree if someone choose to)* We were able to locate one brush touched nick on the nose just above the grill. It is certainly possible there could be another one somewhere, though we have not found it.Body-*The body is very straight and correct much as you would expect to see it new, and possibly a little straighter than original.* The fits around the doors, hood, trunk, and convertible top/ storage area, and gas tank filler all look fairly uniform, and as you would typically expect to see.* The gaps are all fairly even, and everything opens and closes well including the hood, trunk, and doors.* We have seen over the years a lot of first generation Corvettes with some amazingly rough looking front fenders especially on the top, but this car does not have this issue.*Being extremely critical the drivers door could be adjusted up a bit at the back portion. (it drops just a touch upon opening)* We did find one little crack by the lower left corner of the windshield. (see pictures) Bright work-* In reviewing the bright work on the entire car it certainly would appear that it was all refurbished during the restoration process. All of it looks like that of a car a couple years old with almost no wear showing.* All bright work appears to be attached properly to the car, and is very shiny without any noticed damage.* No scratches or pitting.* Being extremely critical we did find two little tiny dimples the size of a pin head that are just aboutan inch above the pivot for the right windshield wiper. Glass–* The glass on the cars is all nice and clear, we don’t see any bull-eyes, cracks, wipers marks, or scratches.* The rear of the drivers door glass has about an 1/8” aging showing and a little light scratch about one inch on the passengers window.* The plastic window for the convertible top does not show any age or discoloring, it is very nice and clear. Convertible Top-* Car comes with a convertible and hard top* The vinyl on the convertible top has very nice white coloring, and does not show age. ( top only about three yrs old)* The stitching is all in place without any seams coming apart, it is very soft as you can tell its has not been out in weather or much sun.* It does have an instructions tab for care of the rear window and how to operate the top.* The left side bead across the top could be adjusted up about a quarter inch just a bit to cover better.* Pay close attention to the finish work that was done on the frame of the top prior to be being installed. Another indication that they were not cutting corners during this restoration. Hardtop-* Pictures are not the best, the top is located in a crowded storage area.* The top was restored and painted during the restoration process as well.* The stainless all appears to be intact.* Thought the headliner didn’t look completely deteriorated, there is new headliner material to go with the top. (see pictures)* You will notice there are some foreign matter at the front edge of the top, which maybe able to be polished off or repaired. Interior-* It would be our observation that the interior was completely restored with the exception of retaining the patina of some original chrome, stainless, and steering column.* The seats, door panels, and carpet are all very soft, and do not see any damage, and at worst might have a little dust in the cracks* It does not look like it has had much outdoor exposure, and the colors are all very fresh and bright.* The dash gauges are all very clear, but you will notice some light wear and pitting on the knobs.* We believe they may have choose to retain the original steering wheel and column just as it was in the car for a little originality Trunk-* The trunk is very neatly put together including what is believed to be an original operations manual that is just as it should have looked at its day.* Take a close look at the complete trunk, as well as with items removed and photographed.* It does include spare and wheel, as well as the jack, and lug wrench.* Take notice of the original style label on the wood panel, and the original style mat that looks as if it may have come new with the car Tires and Wheels-*Firestone Deluxe ChampionsLeft Front- 6.70-15 9-10/32 Right Front- 6.70-15 9-10/32Left Rear- 6.70-15 9-10/32 Right Rear- 6.70-15 9-10/32* The hubcaps and the wheels are in beautiful condition, and do not show any damage.* The painted rims have nice looking paint all around the edge that shows they were very careful when mounting the tires.* The white wall of the tires do have some light cracking particularly on the right front (Tires are fairly older and possibly from the restoration) Engine and Transmission-* A lot of attention to detail was taken when restoring the engine compartment, in the description you will see the information pertaining to suffix code, head numbers, carburetor tag, etc. Chassis- * Frame off restoration that was done approx 25 years ago (per past owner)* The frame appears to be free of any rust perforation, and looked very original with high quality restoration.* Bottom side was painted and has stood the test of time extremely well, again going back to the quality of the work.* We have provided (on our website) a lot of pictures of car on the rack, please look closely for more information. Test Drive-Car is performing correctly just as it was designed to. Chad did take the car on a short test drive around town, but only up to about 50 mph, as he wanted to stay in the local area. The car seems to start and run correctly and pull very well. The clutch operation seemed smooth and seemed to be operating correctly. The transmission shifted smoothly with a nice short throw, and all 4 forward gears as well as reverse seem to be operating correctly. Upon braking the car seems to stop well and does not seem to pulsate or pull to left or right. Car seemed to steer correctly and went straight down the road, and drove as well as you would expect with bias belted tires. Non actual mileage indicated on the title. Not sure if small block is 283 or 327, but my guess is probably a bored out a 283(292-common combo back in the day). Fuel injection is complete, but will need rebuilt. I am re-listing this car, AGAIN # No.3. because an idiot screwed up my auction. Thank you for the latest "cold feet", cost me another $8.00+. This is it. Last time. One of the 6339 Corvettes built in 1957. Lots listed for $80-$100+ grand, several junkers at 20K. Here's one honest Vette at a realistic price. I have owned this car for over 50 years. I was told by the person I bought it from that the first owner was employed by GM Styling. In the mid-60's while working on the interior, I found a business card taped upside down under the passenger seat. Still have it. The name on the card is , I assume from what I was told by the 2nd owner, (58-63) was the original owner his uncle, who worked for GM Styling. He bought a new one in 58, (of coarse, new dual headlights) . When I bought it in late 1963, it was white with silver cove, red/white interior red trunk and wheels. 220 HP/Powerglide. The drivetrain was then changed to the latest, 327cu in. with dbl hump heads, 30/30 cam, Hedman Headers, Wilcap light flywheel, with Borg Warner Close ratio 4 speed transmission, topped off with a Hurst Shifter. And also an aluminum bell housing.The injection system is from a 1962 model. (As is trans). The paint was done in 1969, so it shows its age and spider cracks & etc. In the mid 60's, it rolled into a house next door and sustained some damage to the rear. It was repaired carefully, but some places after 50 years show. Valve covers gaskets need replacing, leaks a bit. Steering box also leaks a bit. The transmission will sometimes "slip" out of 2nd gear on deceleration, so I just hold it in gear when down shifting. Needs a good tuning, valve adjustment, etc. But still runs great! If you are used to modern disk brakes, you won't like these at high speeds. The original radiator leaks, so I've knocked off $1000 from my original reserve. If it doesn't sell soon, I will replace it and adjust my price upward. Rear end, shocks, bushings & etc were redone a while back, but not many miles ago, so in great shape. I don't want to over sell this car, it is not a number 1 Fuel Injected trailer queen, however I don't want to sell it short either. It always turns heads wherever it goes. 10 years ago I thought I would do a refurbish with paint & interior, but time has caught up with me. (I'm 74 years old) I think it's time to let someone else take care of it. It's a car that could be restored original or just refurbed and driven. The engine and transmission would be worth a good bit by themselves, F/I's are pushing over 10K. The original hubcaps and etc. are included. Extras include filter and manuals. Most importantly, it's a factory fuel injected car, which by itself would make it the star of any show, but add in the gorgeous black-over-red color combination, a 4-speed transmission, and a high-quality restoration that's already won a bunch of big awards and you have a car that even at this price could be considered a smart investment. Fully restored seven years ago, this gorgeous fuelie offers what is arguably the most attractive of the early solid axle styling, with single headlights, just enough chrome, and a gently rounded tail that has exactly the right look for America in the late 1950s. The Tuxedo Black finish is quite nice, not perfect but exactly what Corvette judges look for. Gaps are even all around, the fiberglass underneath is in excellent shape, and even when you're working with fiberglass, it's critical to get it super straight if you're going with black. Fortunately, it appears that this car has always been special to someone, which is just as it should be with a unique find like this. The side cove could be a second color in 1957 and the combination of the fuel-injected engine, 4-speed, and a minimum of options strongly suggests that it was built for combat. Of course, none of that really matters today because the restoration is of such high quality that all signs of stress have been completely and professionally erased. The bright red interior was surely high style in 1957 regardless of what you were going to do with the car. Handsome patterned upholstery stays cool and looks great, and aside from some minor wear on the driver's seat cushion, it's extremely crisp inside. The big three-spoke steering wheel is color-matched to the rest of the interior and recalls the great sports cars of Europe, which was entirely intentional on Chevy's part. You got a full array of gauges along the center of the dash, but this one came sans radio, heater, and defroster, preferring instead to stick to just the parts that make it go faster. That's also true with the top, which is a removable hardtop only, so there's no folding soft top to add weight and slow things down. Like I said, this car was purpose-built for a reason and it's just as cool today as it was in 1957. For numbers junkies, this fuelie checks out. The engine is the original 283 cubic inch V8 and carries a 3731548 casting number and an 'EL' suffix on the stamping pad, denoting a manual transmission fuel-injected 283 with 283 horsepower. Only 756 283/283 '57 Corvettes were built, making this a very rare piece no matter how you slice it. And if that's not enough, all the ancillary parts check out, too, including the fuel injection unit itself, the distributor, generator, and starter. It was rebuilt to stock specs and runs superbly, so you can forget all those rumors of these units being troublesome. The 4-speed was new for 1957 and this appears to be the original transmission for the car and it feeds the stock rear end, and they highlight a chassis that was obviously detailed for show. A correct dual exhaust system cackles and barks like you'd expect and it sits exactly right on 6.70-15 wide whites with hubcaps and spinners, just as it was in 1957. Fully documented including restoration receipts, photos, and other important information, this is a high-quality Corvette that passes all the tough tests. We might venture to suggest that even at this price, it represents a very smart buy for the right collector.
