1967 VW 21 Window Deluxe Microbus For Sale There is no denying the appeal of a sunroof deluxe Bus like this. It is little wonder why they are so highly prized by collectors...they are just so damn cool! This 1967 model was restored just a few years back and has been driven minimally and stored properly. The restoration was done in Texas, the car spent some time in Colorado and now it is in Southern California. The "turkis and blue white" color combo is perhaps the prettiest that VW applied to the Busses in the 60's. The color combo stopped in 1964...which is a shame...it really is beautiful. This Bus is fitted with a full set of pop out windows with chrome frames. Safari front and rear windows are a nice addition as well. Bpdy and bumpers have the correct aluminum trims. Body is very straight and smooth on the van Very clean and attractive and it is a wonderful runner and driver as well. Brand new wide whitewall radial tires have been fitted. 1967 was the final year for the split front windshield Bus. In 1968 VW changed the body style greatly. So pretty The restoration of this Bus was extensive and it was done from top to bottom. While not flawless, it shows extremely well and draws an amazing amount of attention when out on the road. Chrome and trim is all excellent and as-new. Chrome nose emblem was a Deluxe model attribute The "one eyed duck" holder for the wipers allows for the safari windows to be opened. The antenna with the proper kink to allow the windows to open all the way. Brand new rubber on the Bus on the proper 14" painted wheels with chrome caps and color matched hubcap trim rings. The interior in "como green" is lovely! This is the 9 passenger model with the full width seats in front, center and rear. Interior is all like new and was sourced from TMI. Dash is clean and uncut. 1967 was the first year for the wide radio opening and this has the correct 67 only block off plate in place. Fresh air box is clean Floors are excellent and are cleanly painted. Very nice in here. Front floors are excellent as well. Odometer reads just over 20k miles. Not sure how many are on the Bus as a whole but I would estimate that there are less than 2000 miles on the Bus since completion of the restoration. Steering wheel and column are done in black and are in very nice condition. Chrome ashtray is another Deluxe model detail The dash clock too was only fitted to Deluxe models. This one is not currently working by the way. 67 was the first year for factory 12 volt electrics ...a great improvement over the 6 volt. Fire extinguisher fitted for safety. Out back is a very clean and smooth running stock 1600cc single port engine. This was fully rebuilt and runs like a top. It appears quite stock and proper for the year with the exception of the mechanical advance distributor and replacement fuel pump and carb. This Bus really runs and drives nice. Very clean in the corners back here Even back behind the fuel tank it is painted nice! Under the engine looks very clean and dry. Transmission too was fully rebuilt as were the brakes. The underside is cleanly painted and is very solid. A few water spots on the belly pan here but a quick wipe down will bring it back to that show car look. Its clean under here, everything painted nice. Its not "over the top" when it comes to the finish under here but it is very clean and presentable. Nice! Details wise it looks like new The chrome frames on the pop outs and safari windows is technically not correct but I sure like the way it looks! Rubber seals are all excellent. Sweet! Roof looks excellent, rain gutters are smooth and everything is well finished. The sunroof cover shows a little age and the headliner underneath the sunroof is fitted incorrectly. Personally I think I would re-do it just to make it perfect, but it is clean and fully functional as is. Easy fix though if you felt the need. Rear safari window is awesome. Interior is very clean. The "jail bars" are present on the rearward windows. The luggage bar that fits on top of the rear seat back here is not present (but reproductions are readily available) Center seat is missing the grab handle as well. Clean back here New seats belts have been fitted throughout. Center seat does have a couple dark spots from something...not sure what. The upholstery material is all like new throughout though...it looks fresh. Nice door gaps and body lines. Headliner is clean. What a dream machine eh? Beautiful! The "M" code tag is present and all the info jives. The Bus rolled off the line on September 1st 1966 destined for the Port of Boston. It is a genuine 21 window, 8 seater with the cargo doors on the rights and the full width center seat Originally it was Velvet Green and White with the mesh platinum interior. Option codes spell out the US spec bumpers and 6 pop out windows, seat belt mounts, sealed beam headlights and red taillights and other North American market details. If you are looking for a super sweet 21 window to play with and enjoy...this one is worth considering! These models have been climbing in value greatly ! Its a fun toy and a good investment. At the 7 Series' Dinfolfing digs, workers on BMW's "bespoke line" assemble the B7's twin-turbo V-8, which is based on the 750's 440 horsepower, 475-pound-foot N63 unit and then modified with specialized 46mm Honeywell turbochargers,Forged Mahle pistons,Forged Crank and a reinforced cylinder head, and NGK spark plugs. Exhaling through an Alpina Stainless Steel low-back-pressure exhaust, the B7's mill is rated at 545 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 536 pound-feet of torque at 3000 rpm. Fuel economy, at 19 mpg combined for the rear-drive B7, has not suffered, equaling that of a 750i. After driving this beast we believe BMW is being a little low on the numbers. -------------- To keep all the Alpina's ponies calm and collected in the corral, the B7 utilizes an extensively revamped cooling system that includes an additional oil cooler and coolant radiator, a low-temp intercooler, an external transmission cooler, and a radiator and 1000-watt radiator fan borrowed from the V-12-powered 760Li. Whether its customers plan to use the B7 for stoplight drag racing, hot-lapping at a racetrack, or just cruising the Vegas strip in the summer, Alpina aimed to ensure its luxury sedan never overheated. The B7 utilizes a ZF 8HP542 TUe Eight speed automatic transmission, shared with the 750, but with numerous upgrades to the driveline, notably reinforced driveshaft and half-shafts from the 760Li and a stiffer differential shell made of iron. Because around 30 percent of Alpina's 200 or so employees are engineers, the B7 also boasts proprietary software for the engine management system, eight speed automatic, and electronic stability control. Speaking of ESC, Alpina tuned the B7's to a higher threshold of intervention. Ditto for the traction control system. Not content just toying with the electronics, Alpina tweaked the hardware as well. The B7 sports stiffer springs as well as brakes borrowed from the armored (and very heavy) 760Li Protection. Rolling stock, too, has been upgraded. Alpina's 21-inch Classic wheels -- 22 pounds front, 23 pounds rear -- are incredibly light for a cast rim of that diameter and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires, size 245/35 front, 285/30 rear. (non x Drive) Alpina claims the wheel/tire assembly is lighter than a 750's optional 20-inch wheel fitted with a run-flat tire. The Alpina philosophy is to produce vehicles that deliver high torque at low rpm, with an overall driving experience that is both quiet and comfortable, even when the landscape is blurring out of focus. Alpina's targets for the B7, naturally, were the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and the Jaguar XJ Supersport. To that end, the B7 wholeheartedly establishes itself as a formidable foe to both. Power, especially from a twin-turbo engine, comes on linearly and effortlessly, propelling the 2.5-ton B7 to 60 mph in a claimed 3.8seconds (Alpina says add a 4/ tenths for xDrive/). Throttle response is quick but not too aggressive, making it fun and contagious to spur those 545 horses at will. The engine, unsurprisingly, is noticeably subdued under full throttle (don't forget Alpina's philosophy), so those wanting screaming valves or bellowing exhaust pipes will need to look elsewhere. The ride is taut, well damped, but never jarring -- respectable considering the huge 21s and low-profile rubber -- and the steering feels light and communicative. Like the 750 on which it is based, the B7 stays impressively flat through corners, thanks in part to the 7's active roll stabilization, yet its limits are a notch above. Turn-in is sharper, grip is more tenacious, and transitions are smoother. Moreover, the Alpina's brakes are less grabby and easier to modulate than the 750's. Inside the B7, Alpina enriched the standard 750i interior with unique doorsills featuring illuminated "B7" badges, Myrtle wood (The hand's down favorite)or piano black lacquer trim , Alpina blue gauges with red pointers, and a Lavalina leather-wrapped steering wheel with parallel stitching (not cross stitching), which is smoother to the touch. (If you're wondering about Lavalina leather, it comes from soft-hide cows that graze between Basel and Geneva, Switzerland.) Our tester came with black leather and lacquer trim, and its ambiance proved as stealthy as the B7's facade.Alpina, which also operates a vintage wine business, has worked exclusively with BMW for over 40 years. Standard Features 2014 B7 Alpina Makes Biggest Bimmer Act A Lot Like An M3 For the time being, BMW has left it up to close collaborator Alpina in Bavaria to create a turbocharged V8-powered rival for the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and Audi S8. We've been lucky enough to take a few spirited drives in Alpinafied BMWs on the no-limit Autobahns around the company's headquarters in Buchloe, Germany, over the years, and each experience has been solidly hair-raising. Other than creating what may be the country's ultimate everyday Autobahn missiles, Alpina does wonders for the ride and handling of the BMW models they touch, a long with providing impressively reworked transmission interfaces and improved overall responsiveness. In the case of this B7, Alpina turns the 7 Series into the best big Bimmer going. In the niche of thundering bi-turbo V8 luxury sedans, only this 545-horsepower Alpina B7, 512-hp Audi S8 and the 536-hp Mercedes S63 AMG (really reach this particular level. The $139,625 500HP Porsche Panamera Turbo and the $176,275 Turbo S are both fine rides, but they aren't traditional sedans, and their unusual aesthetics don't always appeal to the buttoned-down execs that buy traditional premium saloons. It's not surprising that buying either the B7 Bimmer or the S63 Benz will likely set you back some $140,000 to $145,000 once they are spec'd exactly the way you'd want 'em (the SWB-only Audi is a bit cheaper, at about $124k happily optioned). Base price for the Alpina B7 short wheelbase is $126,600 or $132,500 for the long wheelbase model, with a further $3,000 premium for the undesirable 400 pound xDrive. Following these, as a curveball, there's the 503-hp Jaguar XJ/XJL Supersport at around $126,000. It's like two separate worlds. Official 0-60 time is now listed at 4.4(xDrive) We turned an astounding sub 4 second 3.8 seconds seconds,on the Rear Wheel Drive models while top speed has jumped to 194 mph. We were expecting greatness in our 750Li-based rear-wheel-drive Alpina B7, but it went a bit beyond our expectations. Its overall composure, grace and sophistication , even while in the sportiest of setups, are impressive. The N63B44 4.4-liter twin turbo engine with Valvetronic now pumps forth 545 hp between 5,200 and 6,250 rpm and 538 pound-feet of torque from 2,800 to 5,000 rpm. The pre-facelift B7, you may recall, offered but 493 hp and a "paltry" 516 lb-ft. For shame. Official 0-60 time is now listed at 4.0(non xDrive only) seconds, while top speed has jumped from 175 mph in last year's car to 194 mph, a number that we tested ourselves on the latest episode of The List. Take your new B7 to a track with a really long straight; you'll be astounded at the pulling power the V8 pours out right up until the braking point – and the Alpina compound brake set is forever up to the task. Alpina has done extensive aero work to the standard 7 Series bodyshell for big increases in cooling air flow to the engine and brakes. The whole front chin has been redesigned with larger intakes and each passage ducted to cool one specific portion of this finely tuned high-performance mix. There is, of course, the reworked engine control electronics. Aside from this mandatory software upgrade, Alpina fits the engine's two turbochargers with larger flow-through turbines that are two millimeters greater in diameter. That seems like little, but, lord, is it much. Our first track session in the B7 happened with expert Andreas Bovensiepen at the wheel. He is now effectively the boss at Alpina, following in his papa's footsteps. Bovensiepen also just happens to be one hell of a track star, having won various GT championship titles. Out on the circuit at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, just as a front passenger, we could feel a dramatic improvement versus the stock 750Li. In fact, the B7 already struck us as a finer track car than either the M5 or M6, something we'd bet that BMW doesn't really want to hear. That's particularly impressive considering how much the B7 weighs – models vary between 4,655 pounds up to 5,055 pounds, depending on wheelbase length and whether the hefty xDrive is fitted. Couple this sensation with the fact that the revamped Alpina suspension lowers the car by six-tenths of an inch while also providing a stiffer spring set all around, and some of the improvement starts to makes sense. Even in the B7's firmest Sport+ damper setting, the springs are still surprisingly compliant, while the anti-roll control does its part to keep this big boy on the straight and level in hot corners. Another fine helper? The Michelin Pilot Sport tires – 245/35 ZR21 front, 285/30 ZR21 rear. Again, one would rightly assume that 21-inchers at the corners would make the B7's ride and cabin noise a little too Euro, but that's not the case thanks to Alpina's fine tuning expertise and the fact that they aren't stiff-sidewalled run-flats. Alpina uses slick little pushbuttons for swapping cogs in the eight-speed ZF. As far as we're aware, Alpina can take the credit for introducing steering-wheel-mounted shifters on a road car, having added the technology way back in 1993. Never content with the clutter caused by having large-enough shift paddles, Alpina uses slick little pushbuttons for swapping cogs in the eight-speed ZF. The hidden switchgear is on the backside of the steering wheel spokes, right for upshift and left for downshift, clean and simple. The custom steering wheel i tself is a wonderful piece under all circumstances – steering action is calibrated to be easier than on the standard Bimmer 7 Series while in Comfort/Efficiency mode and heavier than on the series car when in Sport+ mode. Alpina is also somewhat known for doing swell interiors. We tried both the Alpina B7 and the latest iteration of BMW 7 Series, and the work by Alpina is vastly superior. Other than the terrific new and functional sport steering wheel with Switch-Tronic shifting, the Alpina-specific gauge cluster should be robbed by BMW and used on all of its cars; the current ages-old BMW dial graphics are boring and not as legible. In conclusion we found the 2014 Alpina B7 LWB(Long Wheel Base) to be the finest combination of power , handling, and braking, while maintaining the board room cockpit feel of all the uber sports sedans. The SWB(Short Wheel Base has rear seats no bigger than a 5 series) All future 2017 and newer 7 series will drop the useless SWB for the US market./. 1981 323i Euro in Brilliantrot. History:According to Andreas Hartz, BMW Archives, this BMW 323i VIN 7264076 was manufactured on July 3rd, 1981 and delivered the same day to the GermanBMW dealer Glöckler in Frankfurt/Main. The original colour was Graphit metallic, paint code 087 and had an automatic transmission (copy of email correspondence available). The car was then registered in September of 1987 (title photocopy available) to Margaret Vandever of Tulsa, Oklahoma, wife of William Vandever, owner of Vandever's Department Store. At some point the car became a non-runner. It was found and acquired sometime in the mid 90's by a BMW technician with a strong affinity for E21's. A long history of receipts (included with purchase) for parts and service follows a trail of about 10 years with over $12,000 dollars invested in parts alone. He somewhat unwittingly backed into a fabulous nut and bolt restoration of this Euro 323i. The car was posted for sale in the BMWCCA's Roundel in late 2010. It was purchased by a well known BMW enthusiast in North Carolina, Scott B., in 2011 and I acquired it from him November of 2012. The odometer was zeroed following the restoration and when I purchased it had 2,043 miles. It now shows 9,557 km, or almost 6,000 miles. All fluids were replaced at that time. The timing belt, idler and spark plugs were replaced at 4,458 kms (photographic documentation). This car needs nothing. Description:The restoration included an all new M20 'stroker' 1988 Super Eta with full "i" upgrades, including 885 head, cams, springs, intake, fuel system, electronics (Motronic 1.1) and +.50 Maxsil pistons. The transmission was a completely refurbished close ratio, dogleg Getrag 5 speed. The differential is an LSD 3.91 rebuilt by Aardvark in 2011. An open 3.45 differential is included with the car. All new suspension with Bilstein shocks. All new fuel system including tanks, pumps, hard lines, hoses, injectors and pressure regulator. All new brakes - rotors, pads, calipers, hoses, hard lines and master cylinder. New clutch including hose and cylinders. Ceramic coated Hartge headers and down pipes with all new exhaust. All new weather strips and seals. Complete new R134 A/C system which blows very cold. The body is razor straight with two stage Brilliantrot, show-quality paint that is blemish free, except for some very small stone chips on the leading edge of the hood as seen in the photos. The front spoiler/lip was painted black with Plasti Dip spray and could be easily reversed (peeled off). This material has the correct sheen and texture for this area of the car. Although black is correct for that front section and the side rockers, I like the red look on the sides of the car so I've not touched that. The interior was upgraded by the previous owner who installed Scheel seats upholstered in an attractive red/black houndstooth fabric. The seats show no wear. He also installed the super nice E21 sport steering wheel with blue/red stitching and the refurbished BBS Mahle 15" wheels with the Yokohamas, which are nearly new. The gray carpet appears to be original to the car and in good condition but the driver's side does show some wear staining. They are covered by red/black Coco Mats. Last year I installed a completely functional OEM headlamp wipe-wash system as Euro cars might have had back in its day. See it at work on the video, linked below. The attention to detail in the execution of this car is very high. The stereo is a correct Blaupunkt CR-2010 stereo cassette which works well with period correct Sansui (remember them...?) rear speakers and front kick panel OEM speakers. The fuse box cover is the correct one with the German language markings. A complete set of documentation is included as seen in the photos: German owner's manual, European service book (not original to the car), European map/dealership finder, European dealership listing as well as an English language manual so you can actually use it if you speak no German. An Osram Copilot cockpit lamp is included and the BMW glovebox flashlight is present and still works and holds a charge. The headlamps are 1-1/2 years old correct European H1 for both the high and low beam units. The city light feature works as it should, including when you set the turn signal stalk to L or R, with the ignition off. The Hella front fog lamps are period correct and mounted with the correct OEM hardware for a Euro E21. The rear foglamps work. The German plates are the correct pre-EU DIN plates with correct state sticker for the German state of Hesse where Frankfurt is located and the car was originally delivered. The battery has been relocated to the trunk and the enclosure done very well and to OEM standards. The spare tire is present and is an Alpina style wheel painted black (as the restorer had a set of those installed on the car) as well as the OEM jack and complete toolkit. On the downside, the dash has the typical E21 cracks, as seen in the pictures. I meant to have Just Dashes repair it but the cracks are not all that visible from the driver's seat so they haven't bothered me that much, especially since the rest of the car is so, so sweet. The car drives and feels like new. This is a powerful car and the low end torque is wonderful. The exhaust sound is just right and loud enough without being obnoxious on long trips. The suspension is tight yet compliant and not harsh at all. The gearbox shifts perfectly but you do have to let it warm up for best results and you can't rush the 1-2nd shift, you have to let the synchros work. You can see however that my shifting on the video isn't slow by any means. The fuel tank(s) is only around 15 gallons so combined with the larger engine and the 1:1 5th gear, your bladder won't outpace the car's range on long trips. The prior owner told me that if you parked on an incline with the tanks full you would get a leak. I haven't had this happen but it may be because I never parked on a steep enough incline. Saleen raced these 86-89 cars in Endurance racing so they had to withstand 24hr races and multiple drivers. The race series was sponsored by the Escort radar dector company, hence the name Escort endurance series. The most recognized Saleen race cars are the nicknamed bumble bee cars from 87-89. Saleen built only 8 Factory R models compared to Shelbys 26 R models ,so these are rare cars seldom seen buy the average Mustang enthusiast. These R model Saleens were built from new cars and were race cars from day one. The Escort endurance series was intended to showcase the best that all the manufactures had to offer. The series was better known as showroom stock, this was because the cars had to be raced in the same trim as if you purchased the car off the dealer showroom floor. This was supposed to prevent Ringers custom built by the manufactures. All cars must have a production VIN and only minor modifications can be made to the STOCK car. Engine blueprinting and balancing, shock and spring changes were about it. All the cars had to have SCCA approved roll cages and Racing seats. The cars ran stock T-5 Transmissions but they too were blue printed to ensure 24HR abuse,the ratios remained stock but Saleen would use 3.55 and 3.08 ratios depending on the track. The rear differentals were prototype parts from Auburn,the Pro differential they currently sell was prototyped on the Saleen race cars. This is a cone type Differential that gave Saleen a better launch off the corners. This completed package also included secret stamps on all the parts so each motor has specific number so when they were rebuilt none of the parts got mixed up. The trick of the Bumble bee cars does not end with the drive train,saleen also massaged the body to accommodate 8in wheels in the front with 1in of added track width,this kept the cars square due to the 1 in wider rear track from the Saleen rear disc brakes with 8in rear wheels. The 86-88 cars ran the stock Saleen brakes on all 4 corners . Saleens tire sponsor was general and they provided the team with G compound race rubber that was much bigger than the tire size on the actual tires, another advantage Saleen! The suspension was also not quite stock, Saleen had some harder bushings installed in a few of the control arms and each car had specific springs to account for the drivers weights and to optimize corner balance and cross weights. Each car had its own set of crew members that set up the cars to their specific drivers requests. The 88 cars had 750 pound fronts and 300 lb rears depending on the tracks but the later 89 cars ran 1000lb fronts . With all these modifications the cars were still close to the factory weights due to the addition of the roll cages but the cars started as lighter than stock due to the lack of a/c and other power options. The racing history for each car is unique due to the fact that there could be as much a 5 drivers at any one race. These cars competed at Road Atlanta,Mossport,Mid Ohio,Sebring,Sears point,Portland,Road America and Brainard. Even thought they were called SHOWROOM STOCK these cars were far from stock. The cars not only raced but were also used to open new Saleen dealerships and promote the other sponsors of the team,Saleen bought new cars each year for the next season.
