I purchased this vehicle May 21, 2012 for my granddaughter for a price of $7,000.00. Since that date, I have spent a stupid amount of money on this vehicle to get it where it is today being listed on eBay. The car initially had 41,904 miles and currently the reading is 52.617. During the 10,613 miles that I've owned this car, I have added a new water pump with timing belt, new spark plugs, wires, and tune up, new catalytic converter, new exhaust manifold, replaced transmission fluid, replace ignition coil, new front brakes, new tires, and we also had to tint the windows. This all totals up to over $5.400.00. and I have all the papers to back this work. The car is performing well now but Grandma is getting a new vehicle and granddaughter is going to drive her Corolla. According to Kelly Blue Book, the car would rate between good and very good condition. The exterior generally looks very good driving by but on closer inspection, you will see two key marks and a small ding in passenger side door. The interior is very clean with no holes in upholstery, etc. Overall, the car looks good considering its age and definitely worth a look. When I purchased it, it came with a certified Car Fax report validating it's mileage history. I've tried to be as accurate as possible in this description as I've went to look at cars that did not come close to matching their description and ended up wasting everyone's time. I have priced the car according to KBB says for a private seller in good condition, etc. I am assuming, though, not many of these vehicles have the new parts and maintenance that this car does. I will accept a cashier's check, money order, personal check, or cash but will not turn over title until payment documents clear.

In addition to this it has the large panoramic sunroof (with remote side windows and sunroof open/close feature), a navigation system, SiriusXM satellite radio, MDI with iPod cable, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and remote keyless access with push button start. The front washer nozzles are heated, the side mirrors with integrated turn signals are heatable, and the fog lamps double as cornering lamps. There is a High-line trip computer, adjustable ambient lighting, and of course, air conditioning and cruise control. This is what I’ve done to this Beetle since buying it in December, 2014: Full bumper to bumper meticulous detail including proper touch up of multiple small stone chips (prep, base coat, clear coat, wet sanding & polish). The exterior now has multiple coats of Zaino Z5. LED interior lighting kit Wheelskins Europerf leather steering wheel cover looks and feels great and provides for the right amount of wheel girth for a performance car. Rear hatchback seal enhancement to stop the hatch rattle that apparently comes standard with these cars. APR Carbon fiber Carbonio intake and Stage 1 ECU upgrade with stock, 91, 93, and 100 octane tunes, left foot braking and anti-theft options. The combination of the upgrade with the intake system dramatically changes the performance and acceleration of the car. The 93 octane tune and intake increases crank horsepower from 200 to 269 and torque from 207 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft (per APR dyno runs). Impressive! Steve Petty Motorsports Stainless 3 inch Cat Back exhaust system is the highest of quality with a deep rich yet quiet exhaust note. The exhaust should push HP and torque even higher than the above numbers, but this car has not been run on a dyno. Even more power could be had with the installation of a down pipe and a stage II tune if that appeals to you, however, for me I truly haven’t needed any more power than this car has currently. Volkswagen Racing (VWR) Streetsport Plus Adjustable Monotube Coilovers with progressive rate springs (optional linear rate springs and camber adjustment plates are available from VWR) provide OEM ride quality until cornering hard with spirited street or track driving. The ride height is simple to adjust and can be done without removing the wheels. The dampers are very easily adjusted with 12 settings in front and in the rear to dial the ride in to your liking on both road and track. Adjustable end links for the front coil over kit are included with the car but not installed. A set of Stop Tech slotted front rotors and Hawk HP plus pads with only 1 track day of use are included with the car as well as a brand new set of front Carbotech XP8 pads for track use. The OEM rotors and pads are currently installed for street use. New 18 inch X 8.5 inch Enkei Tuning Raijin wheels in a beautiful hyper silver finish are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255/40/18s. This wheel and tire combo not only looks nice, it dramatically improves the performance of the car in all parameters. This combination decreases the unsprung weight by an incredible 9 lbs. at each corner of the car vs the OEM 19 inch setup. I am the second owner of this beauty and have been in contact with the original owner who is a gentleman (not unlike myself) that is extremely particular with his cars. I got the full history on the Beetle and I’ll gladly pass it on to the next owner. In summary, it has always been garage kept, has never had any issues, never been smoked in, never had any paint or body work, and has been very well maintained. While the car was for sale at Jim Ellis, the clutch assembly was replaced with a newly redesigned throw out bearing because of a problem common to the Beetle turbo in this model year. Since that time, I’ve put over 4 thousand miles on the car including 3 hours of track time with absolutely no issues from the clutch or drivetrain. As an automotive enthusiast, I research, buy, and sell sporty cars often. I’m a perfectionist with a serious hobby of meticulous detailing, and I always spend countless hours on every car I own, making them cleaner than most of the new cars you will find in showrooms. If they have any issues they are addressed promptly. I would actually love to keep this car, but I have one too many as it is, and need to sell one. In all honesty, I’ll be happy keeping either this car, or my 2013 Focus ST, but one of them has to go. The original MSRP of this car was $30,035 and I’m including a copy of the window sticker, all of the original parts including the OEM exhaust system, springs, struts, and shocks, 19” Tornado wheels with Continental ContiProContact all-season tires with 9/32” tread remaining. I imported the car into the States in 2012. Per certification from the Siftung Volkswagen AutoMuseum in Germany (included with purchase), this particular car was built on 23 May 1961 and destined to Charleston, USA. I am not certain if Charleston was the final destination or if it was shipped via Charleston to Panama, but it also had a stint in Costa Rica. A previous owner claims this was one of only three imported into Panama that year. Wally was owned by an American expat living in the Panama Canal Zone until a Panamanian car enthusiast found it in need of some TLC and fell in love with it just as I did. According to him, the car had been parked for such a long time that a snake had claimed residence and the car had a small tree going through the floor pan and straight out the roof! The car was initially taken completely apart and restored in 2001 and it’s incredible that most of the car’s original parts were intact. ORIGINALITY To start, both the chassis and body match, with serial number 3899168. The engine also matches with serial number 5812753 (see certification), both dating to an April 1961 production (Note that body and engine numbers were different during that time, see http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php). This is extremely rare to see numbers-matching survivors from this era, as most of them rusted out or had major components swapped out. To be clear, the car is a beautiful driver and will look great for many years to come. It is not a museum car or a “Concours” show car. I drive it several times a week and it gets lots of love and stares on the road. ENGINE In 2012 I had the engine completely overhauled and have included photos of that process. The case was machined and I was able to get correct NOS heads. All other components, including pistons, cylinders, cams, bearings, seals, etc… were replaced by Panama’s top VW man Samuel Cigarruista. I also rebuilt the original 28 pic carb. I’ve put about 2,000 miles since and it’s been a total pleasure! Note that I did not reset the speedo when the engine was rebuilt. Because they originally restored this car in Panama, where it’s hot all year round, they did not bother to put the heater components back on (heater box, hoses, etc…) The car’s electrical system was also converted to 12v so it runs on an internally regulated alternator instead of a generator. The battery, alternator, coil, cap, rotor, points, condenser, are all new. All the engine tin covers are chromed out. While I would have preferred to keep them original, it does look fantastic and it would not take much to bring back the stock look. BODY AND CHASSIS All body panels and glass are original except the floor pans, a patch on the roof (remember that tree?), bumpers, mirrors, and vent windows. Body work done was superb. The floor, heater channels, battery pan, door bottoms, and other rust prone areas are solid with only minor surface rust which is expected for a 14-year old restoration. I’ve tried to capture the the areas with paint blemishes and surface rust in the photos. The chassis is in very good shape. The fuel tank was also replaced and I recently added a period correct fuel gauge, which was an available accessory for that year to avoid running out of fuel. The car was painted in Black Diamond Pearl which basically looks black at night; and a very shiny and sparkly deep bluish-black in the sun. Upon close inspection there are few imperfections, but overall the paint still looks gorgeous and shiny throughout. The original color, per the certification, is L41 Black. INTERIOR Most of the interior components, including the speedo (reads in kilometers) and the knobs are original which gives the car a nice patina. It’s almost like stepping into a time machine! Everything is in working condition including turn signals, warning lights, wipers, dome light, etc., except the horn which has all the right parts but I haven’t figured out the notoriously over-engineered one-year only system. The washer pump works but is disconnected since they are known to leak and make a wet mess inside the car. The headliner is in excellent shape and professionally installed. Upholstery is in the original Silver Beige leatherette. I even have an original 1961 owner’s manual to go with the car. OTHER Brakes are in tip top shape, and the rear ones are spanking new (including hoses and lines). Spare tire and jack are in excellent shape and a new toolset is included. The tranny feels great and the car shifts smoothly all the way. No fluids are leaking. The suspension is also in top order. The tires are virtually new with less than 3,000 miles on them. They are slightly wider than the original 165’s for added driving stability. I’ve tried to anticipate as many questions as possible and also included many photos (and a couple of videos) that include every angle, interior, engine, undercarriage, minor paint blemishes, and even photos of the car in Panama and the engine rebuild process. I imported the car into the States in 2012. Per certification from the Siftung Volkswagen AutoMuseum in Germany (included with purchase), this particular car was built on 23 May 1961 and destined to Charleston, USA. I am not certain if Charleston was the final destination or if it was shipped via Charleston to Panama, but it also had a stint in Costa Rica. A previous owner claims this was one of only three imported into Panama that year. Wally was owned by an American expat living in the Panama Canal Zone until a Panamanian car enthusiast found it in need of some TLC and fell in love with it just as I did. According to him, the car had been parked for such a long time that a snake had claimed residence and the car had a small tree going through the floor pan and straight out the roof! The car was initially taken completely apart and restored in 2001 and it’s incredible that most of the car’s original parts were intact. ORIGINALITY To start, both the chassis and body match, with serial number 3899168. The engine also matches with serial number 5812753 (see certification), both dating to an April 1961 production (Note that body and engine numbers were different during that time, see http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php). This is extremely rare to see numbers-matching survivors from this era, as most of them rusted out or had major components swapped out. To be clear, the car is a beautiful driver and will look great for many years to come. It is not a museum car or a “Concours” show car. I drive it several times a week and it gets lots of love and stares on the road. ENGINE In 2012 I had the engine completely overhauled and have included photos of that process. The case was machined and I was able to get correct NOS heads. All other components, including pistons, cylinders, cams, bearings, seals, etc… were replaced by Panama’s top VW man Samuel Cigarruista. I also rebuilt the original 28 pic carb. I’ve put about 2,000 miles since and it’s been a total pleasure! Note that I did not reset the speedo when the engine was rebuilt. Because they originally restored this car in Panama, where it’s hot all year round, they did not bother to put the heater components back on (heater box, hoses, etc…) The car’s electrical system was also converted to 12v so it runs on an internally regulated alternator instead of a generator. The battery, alternator, coil, cap, rotor, points, condenser, are all new. All the engine tin covers are chromed out. While I would have preferred to keep them original, it does look fantastic and it would not take much to bring back the stock look. BODY AND CHASSIS All body panels and glass are original except the floor pans, a patch on the roof (remember that tree?), bumpers, mirrors, and vent windows. Body work done was superb. The floor, heater channels, battery pan, door bottoms, and other rust prone areas are solid with only minor surface rust which is expected for a 14-year old restoration. I’ve tried to capture the the areas with paint blemishes and surface rust in the photos. The chassis is in very good shape. The fuel tank was also replaced and I recently added a period correct fuel gauge, which was an available accessory for that year to avoid running out of fuel. The car was painted in Black Diamond Pearl which basically looks black at night; and a very shiny and sparkly deep bluish-black in the sun. Upon close inspection there are a few little bubbles in a few areas, but overall the paint still looks gorgeous and shiny throughout. The original color, per the certification, is L41 Black. INTERIOR Most of the interior components, including the speedo (reads in kilometers) and the knobs are original which gives the car a nice patina without looking worn out. It’s almost like stepping into a time machine! Everything is in working condition including turn signals, warning lights, wipers, dome light, etc., except the horn which has all the right parts but I haven’t figured out the notoriously over-engineered one-year only system. The washer pump works but is disconnected since they are known to leak and make a wet mess inside the car. The headliner is in excellent shape and professionally installed. The seats are in good shape although the passenger seat does not recline as it should. Upholstery is in the original Silver Beige leatherette. I even have an original 1961 owner’s manual to go with the car. OTHER Brakes are in tip top shape, and the rear ones are spanking new (including hoses and lines). Spare tire and jack are in excellent shape and a new toolset is included. The tranny feels great and the car shifts smoothly all the way. No fluids are leaking. The suspension is also in top order. The tires are virtually new with less than 3,000 miles on them. They are slightly wider than the original 165’s for added driving stability. I’ve tried to anticipate as many questions as possible and also included many photos (and a couple of videos) that include every angle, interior, engine, undercarriage, minor paint blemishes, and even photos of the car in Panama and the engine rebuild process. Scott was patient with all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable before I purchased a one-way plane ticket to fly to Pittsburgh and pick up the car.
