1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible This car truly is a “Survivor” in every aspect and has only 81,600 actual miles! It still retains all its original sheet metal except for the front left floor pan, all other metal is in good condition, a very solid car. Car has had only one repaint on it which was done by the previous owner in early to mid-1980’s in the original color, Royal Maroon. Due to the paint being nearly 30 years old it does have some swirl marks and imperfections, yet it still shines up great for a weekend cruise, car has always been garage kept since 1980. The original “H” code 351W 2V is as it was when it left the dealership in ’69 and it still retains all the factory stickers, buck tag, and even the exhaust manifold heat shield. Only the plugs, wires, cap, and points have been replaced in order to give it a fresh tune up. Has an FMX automatic transmission and standard 3.00:1 open differential, would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere just as it is. Around the same time the tune up was done, a newer exhaust system was put in place from the manifolds on back. In addition, the car received a brand new black top and back window glass in 2012. The original A/C system & tag are still in place but has not been charged in years, so A/C does not currently work. However, all the other lights, interior instrumentation, and heater work just fine, as does the power convertible top. Car was purchased from the previous owner in June of 1999 with the original 14 inch wheels and polished XR7 wheel covers which are included in this sale, 15 inch Magnum 500s and white letter radials were added not long after purchasing it in ’99. Overall the car is a true joy to drive and is an extremely solid example of an original ’69 XR7 convertible that has virtually been untouched throughout its entire 45 year history.
