Known ownership history Galen Documented! How about a 100% original sheetmetal, Galen documented, two build sheet, numbers matching 1971 Hemi Charger R/T? Toss in the very rare color combination, known ownership history back to 1976, low original miles and a stack of receiptsthis is a GREAT Charger. 1971 Hemi cars, in any form are rare beasts. Insurance companies and the EPA were closing in fast on the muscle car. GM, and for the most part, Ford, had bowed to pressure for the 71 model year, but Chrysler held out for one last hurrah. High compression, multiple carbs...all still available. As usual, though, ma Mopar couldnt read the market properly, and all the goodies we cherish today were sales failures. Fast forward four decades and youve got a very limited supply of very collectible cars, like the Charger before you. Is Tawny Gold Metallic you first choice for a Hemi car? You might think not, but take a second look. While the 71s look good in high impact colors, you really lose a lot of the Chargers sophistication. The Charger always was trimmed a step above the competition, and thats apparent here. Look at the factory black R/T on the hood, noticing how it stands out just enough to be seen. The original rallyes are at the corners...theyre the best factory wheels Mopar put on a car. The best part of the exterior is the color matched, factory Tawny Gold vinyl top. Chargers without tops look incomplete: The added stainless trim clearly defines the side profile, and the subtle texture difference is very cool to see. The front and rear spoilers are the only add-ons on the car, though theyve been there since the 70s. The body itself is excellent with no rust ever. Up until six years ago it was even wearing its original paint! Check out the undercarriage pictures and youll see all original metal, and no hint of corrosion. Even the trunk extensions are perfect, and theyre the first to go. The cars history explains its condition. We have documentation all the way back to 1976, and every owner since is alive and kicking to verify the cars state, then and now. We know the car was purchased by an Arizona man in 1976, and the car was local to him. He held the car for a few years before sending it to Colorado where it spent most of the 80s. It then went to Texas for an extended stay, spent a couple years on Long Island, and landed in Cleveland five years back. Fortunately, the car was special to every owner along the chain, and the car traded for good money every time. Even in the 70s and 80s the owners knew they had something special, and they werent afraid to pay up for it. Though the Charger changed hands a few times, its clean, original build sheet and fender tag went with it. The second build sheet has an interesting storythe most recent owner contacted the man who bought it in 1976, and it turns out that not only did he keep it as a memento, he still had it. He was kind enough to reunite the sheet with his old car...free of charge. That doesnt happen often! Many of the receipts you see are from the restoration and engine rebuild, both done in 2005-2006. Very few miles have rolled on since, and its documented on the past and present titles. Under the hood is the correct, factory installed, numbers matching engine, as verified by Galen Govier. Its dressed properly from its original air cleaner on down, and theres even electronic ignition replacing the troublesome points. The motor itself was torn down and rebuilt in 2005 using new parts for just about everything short of the crank and rods. New pistons, a tougher Comp Cam, new rockers and more went in. Suffice to say its good to go for many, many more years. Beyond the rust-free body, the exterior features every original piece of trim and chrome it left the factory with. Those are the original mirrors, door handles, grilles, taillights...its a testament to the cars care through the years. The paint was laid down in 2005-2006, and a new, rare NOS vinyl top went on. This is a clean Charger you can proud of. Inside, new front seat covers, a factory AM/FM radio in place of the original AM unit, a factory tach in the dash and an older reproduction carpet finish an otherwise completely original cabin. The dash hasnt been redone, the headliner, rear seat and door panels are originals...remember, this car was treated well and was never apart. Underneath, you can see the fully restored front suspension, with a powdercoated K frame, Cosmoline-coated lower control arms and freshly serviced and original disc brakes. The rear axle is the original piece, holding a factory-correct 3.23 ratio and a Sure-Grip. The replacement transmission has been fully rebuilt to Hemi specs, and shifts beautifully.
