From the Wellborn Museum Collection! This 1967 Charger, is the original Hemi Charger built by Dodge to impress at the 1967 International Auto Show held in Toronto, Canada . This is car #1 of 2 in the Chrysler Registry built to Canadian Spec's. 1 of only 118 Hemi Chargers built in 1967,this famous Hemihas undergone a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration and retains its matching numbers motor and transmission. Documentation includes Fender Tag decode by Galen Govier, the original broadcast sheet and fender tag, and a full owner history traced back to original owner including several registrations dating back to the mid 1970's. It has also been featured on the January 2001 issue of Mopar Collectors Guide. Most Hemi Cars were built with very limited options. Being a show car, this one is loaded to the hilt: Power front disc brakes Power steering Power windows (very rare on ANY Charger) Tinted glass Bumper guards Console mounted clock Dual chrome outside mirrors Mag-style wheel covers Polyglass red stripe tires Very limited rear factory installed three-piece NASCAR Spoiler As with every car that has a story, there are some remarkable traits particular to this car. She was painted WW1 Corporate White to accentuate her lines under intensity of the auto-show lights. The A-Arms and K-Member were painted glossy black since it was displayed on an elevated table. Another show car quirk is the chromed Power Steering Cap. This is not an aftermarket piece; it has been on the car since new. Most Chargers came with carpeted trunk floors because the seats fold down to create one large space. This car came with the plaid rubber trunk mat. Perhpas they ran out of carpet? Another sign of the frenetic speed at which Detriot churned out cars in the 60's is the installation of the 3-piece NASCAR spoiler. It wasmounted backward at the factory and remains that way still. The careful restoration of this Hemi Charger progressed over several years, as suitable NOS and original parts were located. The Hemi was taken down to the block by Rini Brothers Racing Engines. Cylinder walls were sleeved and bored the required .030 over otherwise the Hemi was rebuilt to 100% factory stock specs. A bundle of time and money has been invested in making this car look as good as it did the day Dodge unveiledit to the world. The only possible area of improvement on the car is the gauge cluster and bezel. The bezel is original and in very good condition, but not concourse. It can be sent out to a specialty shop to be refurbished, but the current has opted to keep it as is. The rest of the car is beautiful, to say the least. Arrow straight is the best way to describe the body. The undercarriage shows ascrisp and white as the rest of the body. The engine compartment probably looks better then when it left the factory. The car has been driven the car approximately 1200 miles since the restoration. It is usually trailered to shows of any distance. Ad provided by ClassicCars.com

The Challenger was described in a book about 1960s American cars as Dodge%26apos;s %26quot;answer to the Mustang and Camaro. Introduced in fall 1969 for the 1970 model year, it was one of two Chrysler E-body cars, the other being the slightly smaller Plymouth Barracuda. %26quot;Both the Challenger and Barracuda were available in a staggering number of trim and option levels%26quot; and were intended %26quot;to compete against cars like the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang, and to do it while offering virtually every engine in Chrysler%26apos;s inventory.%26quot; However, the Challenger was %26quot;a rather late response to the ponycar wave the Ford Mustang had started.%26quot; In his book Hemi Muscle Cars, Robert Genat wrote that the Challenger was conceived in the late 1960s as Dodge%26apos;s equivalent of the Plymouth Barracuda, and that the Barracuda was designed to compete against the Mustang. The Barracuda was actually the first car in this sporty car segment by a few months, but was quickly overshadowed by the release of the segment defining Mustang (the segment being referred to as %26quot;Pony Car%26quot;). He added that Chrysler intended the new Dodge as %26quot;the most potent ponycar ever,%26quot; and positioned it %26quot;to compete against the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird.%26quot; Genat also noted that the %26quot;Barracuda was intended to compete in the marketplace with the Mustang and Camaro/Firebird, while the Dodge was to be positioned against the Cougar%26quot; and other more luxury-type musclecars. The Challenger%26apos;s longer wheelbase, larger dimensions and more luxurious interior were prompted by the launch of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, likewise a bigger, more luxurious and more expensive pony car aimed at affluent young American buyers. The wheelbase, at 110 inches, was two inches longer than the Barracuda, and the Dodge differed substantially from the Plymouth in its outer sheetmetal, much as the Cougar differed from the shorter-wheelbase Ford Mustang. A/C and a rear window defogger were optional.Exterior design was done by Carl Cameron, who also did the exterior for the 1966 Dodge Charger. Cameron based the 1970 Challenger grille off an older sketch of his 1966 Charger prototype that was to have a turbine engine. The Charger never got the turbine, but the Challenger got that car%26apos;s grille.
