This car was purchased out of an estate from Lake Charles, LA. There is evidence of a Texas inspection sticker circa 1968 on the windshield. The car appears very complete with little missing and would be a good candidate for a full restoration. This model is the later "raised hinges" version with stiffer body pressings and other sheet metal improvements. It still retains it's believed matching numbers drivetrain, although currently the engine and steering is stuck, but the car is rolling fine. The body on the car would need at least the floors replaced, as well as some work on the trunk floor, which is now thin with some rust-through in several spots. The main inner and outer rockers, as well as the dogleg areas appear pretty solid. Panel fit is good and consistent with factory gapping. The chassis frame, although a bit scaly with some surface rust, appears good and solid with no holes apparent. The car includes the pictured loose parts with the important steering wheel trafficator assembly. The car still retains it's original VIN plate, although the two brass body tags are not present. An interesting note is the Lake Charles Sports Car Club badge. Also included is some old weather equipment such as the softtop and tonneau cover. The car is noted to be missing the air cleaners, which are available as new reproduction. The windshield glass looks to be in good shape. Overall, a decently straight and restorable car in a rare and desirable, attractive original color scheme. It is upgraded with the 60-spoke wire wheel option, modestly priced for the restorer. I purchased this car locally from a dealer about 3 years ago and embarked on a full-blown, nut-and-bolt, body-off-the-chassis restoration. It was a totally together car, but needing a full restoration. It was your average West Coast restoration project TR3: sitting for years, OK-ish to decent body, a little bit banged up here and there, solid floors but needing some dogleg repair and a set of outer rockers. I purchased a good TR3 small mouth nose/apron to replace the slightly damaged large mouth 3A. I also bought a non-syncromesh overdrive gearbox, correct for the car. With a busy life, I haven't had a chance to work on the car in 3 years, so I have decided to offer the car for sale, as it's a project with a lot of time, effort, and money invested in so far. This car was purchased here in Southern California. The car was carefully and completely disassembled down to the bare frame. The chassis with most all of it's suspension components and "black" bracketry were sent out for sandblasting, then priming, and painting in black enamel with beautiful results. It is now ready to go back together with all of it's new parts purchased. I made a large order with Moss Motors which included all new parts to rebuild the complete chassis and running gear for the car. Please see attached receipts. The body tub was also carefully blasted to baremetal and was then sent out for specialist repair which included new outer rockers, a new trunk floor, battery box, and dogleg repairs. I purchased a matching pair of very nice doors, a near perfect trunk lid, LH front fender, and hood, all in their original powder blue paint to replace the original items that were a bit banged up. The car's original floors looked excellent and needed very little. The bodyshell was then etch-primed and epoxy primed, and is now awaiting it's trip to the bodyshop for final bodywork and paint. Meanwhile, the engine was disassembled for a complete rebuild. The block was hot-tanked and new cam bearings were installed and machined. The cylinder head was completely rebuilt with new guides and larger valves. The camshaft was reground for fast road specification. The connecting rods were sized, crankshaft ground .010/.010, flywheel surfaced, starter rebuilt, new generator purchased, driveshaft rebuilt with new UJ's and painted, and an 86mm piston, liner, rings and pin set purchased. The engine is now completely ready for final assembly. Additional restoration items include quality rechroming of the complete windshield assembly (8pieces), valve cover, grab handle, hand brake handle and knob, and misc trinket items. The top frame was powder-coated in BRG. All hardware(nuts, bolts, washers, screws) were cadmium plated. The rear lever shocks were rebuilt. A new stainless exhaust system and a new radiator was purchased, both still in the box. A complete, new, black with white piping interior panel kit was purchased from Moss, along with a new black Robbins crush grain vinyl top, and a brand new set of sidescreens. All items/parts purchased and all services are fully documented with receipts. Please look at the tally sheet for expense totals. Anyone starting a restoration on a similar car will likewise end up with the same invoices, so here is a chance for a $6,000 plus savings. Overall, this Triumph TR3A offered for sale here gives the next enthusiast/restorer a huge jump start on a very worthwhile project. It's a matching numbers car with the desirable overdrive gearbox. It is believed to have it's original mileage of 45,663, although there is no documentation to prove it. It is finished in the original color scheme of Mallard Green with Beige trim. It appears to have had one older respray in the original color which matches the car's original paint in the engine compartment/door jambs. The car looks accident-free and very solid. This car starts very easily on the key. It has been upgraded with a high torque starter, spin-on oil filter, and battery tender. The engine runs great with perfect oil pressure, no noises and no smoke. The gearbox shifts fine and the clutch action feels good and healthy. All of the car's fluids are clean and up to the mark. The car's tires are in great shape. The paintwork is older and shows some noted chips and imperfections, some checking/cracking but nevertheless looks very glossy and attractive. There are a few bubbles starting to appear on the rear edge of the trunk lid. The body panels seem to line up fine and open and shut correctly. The car's interior trim is very decent, definitely usable, comfortable and clean. The dashboard wood facia is now showing it's age with it's veneer lifting and there are some hairline cracks starting to show in the dash top pad and crash pads.The car's underside is what one would expect from a low-mileage, un-restored TR-6 from this era, with no causes for alarm. The body and floors look good, frame looks perfectly straight. The car goes down the road well and the suspension is quiet. This car is a very sound and solid driver with excellent, above-average ride and roadholding from my experience driving other TR-6's. These highly attractive Triumphs offer a classic sportscar driving experience for a very modest investment. This car was recently acquired from only it's second AZ owner who purchased the car in it's ORIGINAL PAINT when it was only about 5 years old. It has been under his careful watch since then with only a few cosmetic improvements over the years. The seats were re-trimmed at some point, a replacement top (now old and shrunken) was fitted along with a black carpet kit. A newer tinted windshield has been fitted. The rest of the car remains highly original and unmolested. At some point, a light pin striping was applied to the car's exterior. The body on this car is absolutely lovely, factory straight, honest, and rust free. This car runs and drives and is mechanically very good with a healthy engine and gearbox, revving well with good oil pressure and no smoke or noises. The gearbox shifts well with no issues. The overdrive unit is currently not operating, most likely due to electrical. The car was just removed from storage and would greatly benefit from a major service and possibly a recommissioning of some items like suspension bushings, carburetor rebuild, brake attention, etc. The tires appear to be in newer condition. The car runs and drives OK, but feels loose overall. It would be a very nice "work in process" car, the new owner choosing to do some weekend improvements while being still able to enjoy the car during the week. The speedometer shows approximately 47k miles which I doubt is original to the car... The body on the car is very straight and nice with no accident damage. The paintwork presents very well with only a few small chips. It was of good quality and it appears that it was color-sanded and buffed. Included is the original can for touch-up/ reference.There is a mild crease on the passenger door where it was lightly over-extended at some point, but didn't break the paint. All of the panels align well. The rocker panels received some repair work to them and are a little wavy along the top edge, as seen in the photos. The interior trim was also renewed as part of the restoration. The seats are trimmed in quality vinyl. The panel kit is original and in excellent condition. New carpets, a crush grain vinyl top and a tonneau were fitted, both in black. The trim presents well and is in keeping with the condition of the rest of the car. The wood dashboard is in very nice shape and all the instruments function correctly. The 2 crash pads and dash top pad were also renewed. The robust driveline in the car is in good condition. The engine starts easily with good oil pressure and no smoke or noises. The car runs, drives, stops and steers well. It goes happily down the road with good power and is pleasant to drive. The undercarriage is tidy for a car of this period with a small amount of rust just on the inside rockers. The body on the car is straight with very nice fitting panels and excellent shut lines/gaps. There are nice front and rear lower valances, and the car has never sustained any damage. There are some areas of localized rust (pictured), but once repaired would result in a very nice bodyshell overall. The floors appear very solid, with only some minor rust through in the spare wheel well in the trunk. The trim appears complete and original, with all the correct instruments and steering wheel. The driver's side seat bottom pan needs replacement. The 56k original miles is believed correct. The floors look very good and solid overall, from inside the car. The original carpets have deteriorated. The soft top frame is there with an old white softtop in the trunk. The hood fits the car well. The car has the correct and original early TR-4 H-6 carburetor setup with the short intake manifold. The engine turns nicely by hand and may even run with a little work. It is correctly numbered CT5129E which means it's most likely original to the car, the VIN # being CT4997L. The drivelines were closely sequenced to the car number. The car's underside has some some scale from sitting, but the frame appears solid and very nice and straight. Overall, this TR-4 that is a very good one for improvement. This Italian designed Triumph is gaining popularity in the current market due to it's stunning lines and robust mechanicals. It's robust 2.2 liter engine behaves well and pulls hard through the crisp 4-speed gearbox. The car is great fun to drive. This car was recently purchased from it's longtime Tennessee owner who enjoyed it immensely and took very good care of it. The car received a very nice cosmetic restoration in the past and is still presenting well today. The body on this car appears completely accident-free. The paintwork is shiny and glossy, but upon close inspection (within a few feet) it reveals some fine micro-blistering in some areas, typical with modest repaints. However, it presents well overall and has mellowed nicely which is consistent with the rest of the car. This car is mechanically good like most robust Triumph drivetrains. It starts easily on the key with little choke, revs and idles well with good oil pressure, no smoke or noises, and goes happily down the road. The 4-speed full-syncro gearbox shifts well, clutch action is good, and it steers, handles, rides and stops properly. All the fluids are clean and up to the mark. The twin exhaust system looks like a fairly new unit. The wheels and tires are in good condition with plenty of tread. It has the sensible upgrades of a high-torque starter and spin-on oil filter. The interior trim is in good condition with very nice seats trimmed in black vinyl piped white, which matches the top boot. All of the dashboard pads were replaced during it's restoration. The wooden dash facia is attractive but has some checking in the lacquer finish. It is fitted with a very purposeful smaller wheel which would accommodate taller drivers. The six instruments all function properly and the electrical system seems to be in fine shape. The replacement top fits well. The car retains all of its original glass in good shape. The chromework has mostly been replated is still looks great. The body rubber/gaskets were also renewed and are very nice. Overall, this TR4A is a very nice driver and should be enjoyed as is going forward. It offers very good value when compared to current project cars and their restoration costs. The original floors, trunk floor, spare tire compartment, dogleg areas and inner rockers are in exceptional condition. the body has acquired some soft dents over the years in storage that can be rectified. The door and trunk gaps appear original. The front apron is loosely attached. Some non-original hinges have been installed on the bonnet. The front fender wells and bowls look beautiful and straight. The car's undercarriage looks very nice and well-preserved with an excellent straight frame. This car was specialist cosmetically restored approximately 15 years ago with few miles since, and is holding up extremely well. The car appears to be largely original. The restoration included fresh paintwork on a damage-free body, new interior trim with leather seats, new rubber kit and seals, new carpet kit, new dashboard, new quality black soft top, rechromed brightwork, (4) new 60-spoke chrome wire wheels and tires, new hubs. The panel gaps on the car look factory-correct all the way around, and the body exudes a fit and finish that only a well-taken-car-of original car could have. As seen by the photos, the paintwork is superb overall. Mechanically the car is very good. It starts easily on the button with excellent oil pressure and no smoke. It appears that the car has 70,000 original well-maintained miles on it's drivetrain, and feels as though that is correct. . All the fluids look fresh and clean, and are up to the mark. The engine pulls well through it's 4-speed gearbox, although if hurried into 3rd the syncromesh appears slightly weak. The clutch action feels good. The car rides, brakes, steers, and drives as expected from a good low-mileage example.This car is sold a with a reprint of the owners manual, beige tonneau cover, knock-off tool, and some previous receipts.
