Listed here is a 1980 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40. Being a 1980 Landcruiser they include desirable late model changes and are becoming harder and harder to locate. The biggest changes were gear ratios being 3:73s instead of previously 4:11s giving better freeway speed capabilities. Along with fuel tank relocation now underneath the cab, instead of interior. Also a hand brake on the floorboard instead of on the dash. This 1980 FJ40 was built December of 1979. To the best of my knowledge in reviewing it's documents provided, this is a California car its whole life. This Landcruiser does not have factory air conditioning or factory power steering. However, it does hold for the most part a very stock platform here. All of the original smog equipment is still in order and not modified. Engine starts right up and drives fine, however it does have a hesitation on higher RPMs. I would suggest a simple carb rebuild, and looking into the attached smog equipment, making sure it is in order. When the motor is warmed up it idles extremely smooth, with no valve train noises at all. Transmission shifts great, does have noise at idle with clutch disengaged, most likely is throwout bearing. Shifts into 4WD properly along with hubs locking. Body does have rust throughout, so please carefully review the attached photos to get a better understanding of the overall condition. If you are looking for a late model FJ40 to do a restoration on, this is a great candidate. Parts are readily available from full body tubs, to patch panels, depending on what you may need. At one point it time this car has been resprayed the original color. Electrical is in good working order. Lights operate properly along with all of the interior instrument cluster switches, and pull cables. The glass is all original TEQ, except the front windshield. It's a 1965 with the correct matching early corrugated top, and guillotine-style rear doors. Rust free overall, with a nice patina showing through, but you won't find any rust holes or pockets hiding. Frame is in perfect shape, as is the tub. Really solid condition overall. Under the hood is a Chevy 350 crate engine with unknown mileage, although presumed new when installed. Engine is mated to a Ranger AA 27% overdrive split gearbox and backed by a later-model Toyota 4-speed manual transmission and the factory transfer case. The 4WD high and low work perfectly, and both axles have Aussie lockers in them. Truck has brand new 34" Super Swampers on it, with maybe 1000 miles on them. Truck was converted to Saginaw power steering and is very easy to drive. Also has disc brakes in the front. Cruises 80mph down the freeway without a problem thanks to the V8 and the split gearbox.This truck will go absolutely anywhere you point it. With the locked differentials and the V8, it'll climb up a wall. It's a tremendously capable truck, far moreso than most will ever need short of hardcore rock climbers.Interior is in good shape, with early Celica Supra seats installed. Inside is painted a nice metallic grey, with a black rhino-lined floor. The factory rear jump seats are long gone, it's all cargo space out back.Truck includes the accessories - the roof rack is strong and will support hundreds of pounds, the rear tire carrier is stout, and the matching jerry cans are handy and are pretty nice to have. The truck is lifted with shackles, and rides decently well for what it is. The tires aren't the smoothest, but anyone interested in a truck like this won't mind.Overall, this truck is a really good one, and wonderful for someone who's looking for a truck they can hop in and drive every day, but can also spend their Saturdays tinkering with and fixing up to make it perfect. It has its fair share of flaws - it could use tie rods and spring bushings to improve the comfort level. The paint/finish is some sort of interesting brown and black texture. I personally love it, and it's why I bought the truck back when I did, but you may not like it. It has plenty of dings, dents, and imperfections if you're keen on fixing them, or embrace it like I have. It's got some holes in the floor from an old roll cage installation from a previous owner - things like that. This is not, in any way, a perfect truck, but it's a great starting platform to the ultimate trail rig, and a perfect truck for someone who wants to get into a very capable Land Cruiser without spending a fortune doing it. She needs a hand full of things, and she's rough around the edges but she's ready to hit the trail as is, and is as solid as they come. The V8 pulls hard and boogies if you mash the go-pedal, and it'll tackle any obstacle you throw at it. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. Let me make it clear this FJ62 underwent a total mechanical RECONDITION OVERHAUL. The entire running gear has been rebuilt, the motor, the transmission, the transfer case, front and rear axles. New radiator, a/c pump, sensors, hoses, belts ETC. The suspension was reconditioned, any bad bushings replaced, springs replaced or re-arched. Driveline rebuilt, u-joints where needed, all new shocks and steering stabilizer. Four brand All-Terrain tires. New muffler Then let us move onto the interior. Complete new seat covers, complete new carpet throughout with "sound deadening" underlay. The following is a list of mechanical repairs that were done in the last 1000 miles. The body is in good shape, as well as the paint. The body/paint has a few small dings, some paint chips and two minor rust spots above the rear wheel wells which can be seen in the photos. I'll try to list every repair I have recently done, but might miss a few things. I spent in excess of $20,000 on the repairs. Owner had no intention of getting rid of the vehicle, but recently had a major life change and the vehicle has to go! The repairs were done by an authorized Land Cruiser service technician in Utah who specializes in FJ62's. The last thing is to freshen up the outside with a new paint job. However the owner needs to sell the vehicle so painting it will be left up to the new owner. His loss will be your HUGE gain. Even though the odometer shows high miles, it actually only has a 1000 miles on MAJOR overhaul.
