Porsche sought to develop a new Le Mans prototype to replace the venerable GT1, which was powered by a 5.5-liter V-10 engine. However, a change in FIA rules quickly shelved their racing plans while the model was in development, but Porsche remained undeterred and continued forward with plans to make the platform suitable for road use. To attract attention to their stand at the Paris Motor Show in 2000, Porsche displayed a road-going concept of the car alongside their other production models. With the amount of attention that the concept received combined with additional revenue from the Cayenne, Porsche decided to go ahead and produce the car. The Carrera GT was first offered for sale in 2004, alongside the Ferrari Enzo, Ford GT, and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and it more than held its own in what proved to be an incredible year for supercars. The materials that went into the construction of the Carrera GT were simply that of an engineer’s dream. By utilizing a carbon-fiber monocoque and sub-frame, as well as carbon-ceramic brakes, Porsche’s engineers pushed the envelope of what was mechanically possible in order to offer a car that was as light as it was strong. Porsche also designed a three-disc carbon-fiber racing clutch for the car, which measured 7.5 inches in diameter and was about a third the size of a normal clutch. Similar attention to detail was applied to nearly every facet of the car. The ultra-lightweight forged magnesium wheels had center-locking bolts that were color-coded for each side of the car, ensuring that wrong bolts were never put on the incorrect side of the car. At the heart of the Carrera GT lies a monstrous 5.7-liter V-10 engine, the first V-10 produced for use in a Porsche. Performance was incredible, with 605 horsepower and 435 foot-pounds of torque, and the Carrera GT could rocket from 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds, toward a top speed of 205 mph. The Carrera GT truly showed its racing roots when one piloted by Walter Röhrl lapped the July 2004 Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:28, which was a record for a Porsche that was not broken until the release of the 911 GT2 RS in 2010. Slip into the Carrera GT’s carbon-fiber bucket seats and it is clear that Porsche’s engineers did not limit the car’s track-focused nature to just the exterior and mechanical components. Every surface within reach is either leather, aluminum, or carbon fiber, and nothing in the car, minus the requisite stereo with CD player and air conditioning, distracts the driver from the task at hand. Everything else in the cockpit is typical Porsche, from the instrument layout with the tachometer in the center to the left-hand placement of the ignition. Porsche topped the gear shifter, which was mated to a six-speed manual transmission, with a wooden shift knob, tying an organic link from past models into their technological tour de force, thereby showing that their most powerful creation to date indeed had a soul. By the time production ceased, 1,270 examples had been built. The Carrera GT offered here has had only one private owner since new and presently records fewer than 3,181 actual miles. It has had a fresh service by Porsche of Newport Beach, at 3,080 miles. It is offered with its original books, and two keys, as well as a center-lock socket, an air compressor, and the Tire Mobility System. Additional options noted include manual air conditioning and the Porsche/Becker CD-radio. When new, journalists hailed the Carrera GT as one of the greatest supercars of all time, as it featured incredible performance in a lightweight, race-ready package that had gorgeous bodywork. This car is in overall very nice original condition and runs and drives excellent. It has all original paint and a nice original interior. Engine runs excellent and has 6 speed transmission which shifts with no issues. Please take a look at the video above for my walk around description of this vehicle to see all the details. Has a few minor rock nics and a few small door dings from 18 years on the road and miles. But overall I think the car looks straight and clean. Paint probably about a 7.5 to 8 of 10. I give it a fair review on my video above, please be sure to watch. Has original clear sticker still on the hood, mirrors and front bumper to protect from rocks. Has the factory power sunroof to enjoy the day. Wheels have some curb rash from normal daily driving but overall look good. The interior is all stock and in good condition. This is a non smoker car with no odd smells. Seats are all original and power functions work good, driver side is 3 position memory. The leather seats are still nice and soft and seat padding still very comfortable to sit in. Outside bolster on driver side has a dime sized wear hole, passenger side is very good. Rear seats look brand new. Carpeting is in excellent shape with no holes or stains. Factory floor mats are in excellent shape. Center console and all surrounding plastic is in good shape. Climate control works well and AC and heater work well. Has an Alpine stereo which sounds ok, has AUX, CD, Line In inputs. Door panels both are in good shape and both power windows work well. Comes with 2 factory keys, remotes are not connecting with car, may need a relearn. Mechanically, the car runs and drives very well. The 3.4l engine runs cool and has no oil leaks I can see. I don't have service records on the car other than what is listed on carfax and there are many service records over the years shown. The transmission shifts good with no grinding or popping out of gear. The rear end/trans-axle is quiet on the freeway with no whines etc. Clutch feels soft and feel very good. Tires on the rear look to be near new and fronts about 40% remaining. Brakes pads up front look about 80% and rears about 40 to 50%. Condition of the paint is easily a 9 out of 10 save a few tiny nics from normal use. The car has a clear autocheck with no accidents reported, but shows one collision on Carfax that must have been minor because paint and body look perfect. All body panels all line up as straight as an arrow and the car has a mirror like finish. The convertible top looks brand new and rear window is super clear. Power convertible top functions perfectly. Has a great looking set of Porsche 18" powder coated black wheels with no curb rash. The interior is in excellent condition. Smells like leather inside and seats still feel like new when you sit on them. Both seats are full power and rear seats look brand new. Rear side door panels and rear shelf both look excellent. Original carpeting is in excellent shape and has factory set of Porsche floor mats in good shape. Dash console looks excellent as well as center console and arm rest which are the best I have seen condition wise on a 996. Has an upgraded Kenwood stereo with Hands free Bluetooth for the phone, XM radio, CD, High Definition FM, AUX, USB, and Garmin Navigation (best double din NAV on the market). Has amplifier in trunk compartment as well as upgraded speakers in front doors. Has rear wind deflector. Door panels both look excellent and all four window go up and down with no issues. Comes with 2 factory keys with keyless entry and working factory alarm. Mechanically the car runs and drives excellent. Feels tight and on point, like a car with 43k miles should. No funny rattles or noises from suspension. Engine runs very strong and sounds great. Transmission is tight with no grinding or popping out or whines etc. Has a nice set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires with about 70% up front and about 50% in the rear. The car drives excellent at freeway speeds and has no whines coming out of rear end to worry about. The car looks dry underneath and very original. Has already been inspected by Porsche mechanic and it was given the green light. No sign of IMS noise or issue, although I do not have records showing it was replaced. This car is in overall very nice original condition and runs and drives excellent. It has all original paint and a nice original interior. Engine runs excellent and has 6 speed transmission which shifts with no issues. Please take a look at the video above for my walk around description of this vehicle to see all the details. Has a few minor rock nics and a few small door dings from 18 years on the road and miles. But overall I think the car looks straight and clean. Paint probably about a 7.5 to 8 of 10. I give it a fair review on my video above, please be sure to watch. Has original clear sticker still on the hood, mirrors and front bumper to protect from rocks. Has the factory power sunroof to enjoy the day. Wheels have some curb rash from normal daily driving but overall look good. The interior is all stock and in good condition. This is a non smoker car with no odd smells. Seats are all original and power functions work good, driver side is 3 position memory. The leather seats are still nice and soft and seat padding still very comfortable to sit in. Outside bolster on driver side has a dime sized wear hole, passenger side is very good. Rear seats look brand new. Carpeting is in excellent shape with no holes or stains. Factory floor mats are in excellent shape. Center console and all surrounding plastic is in good shape. Climate control works well and AC and heater work well. Has an Alpine stereo which sounds ok, has AUX, CD, Line In inputs. Door panels both are in good shape and both power windows work well. Comes with 2 factory keys, remotes are not connecting with car, may need a relearn. Mechanically, the car runs and drives very well. The 3.4l engine runs cool and has no oil leaks I can see. I don't have service records on the car other than what is listed on carfax and there are many service records over the years shown. The transmission shifts good with no grinding or popping out of gear. The rear end/trans-axle is quiet on the freeway with no whines etc. Clutch feels soft and feel very good. Tires on the rear look to be near new and fronts about 40% remaining. Brakes pads up front look about 80% and rears about 40 to 50%.
