They offer great looks, plenty of V8 power, a lot of creature comforts, and a classic convertible feel that's better than most cars of the period. How can you go wrong with that? The light blue paint on this Olds is just the right icy metallic shade to make the convertible look great in the sun. We seldom see bodywork this good on cars this affordable, and there's clearly a sizeable investment in getting it to look this good. White stripes add a sporty, muscle car look but it isn't over-done; the Old's natural curves seem to lend themselves perfectly to a set of stripes down the center. The quarter panels are smooth, the doors line up well, and aside from the aforementioned stripes, there aren't any deviations from factory spec, so it has a nicely detailed look that's just right. There's also plenty of chrome and bright trim, including along the rockers, around the windshield, and in the form of big block letters on the trunk lid proudly spelling out OLDSMOBILE for everyone to see. Clean lenses, a few well-placed badges, and polished fender moldings definitely make this one look like a grown up's hot rod. The white bucket seat interior of this Olds looks to be largely original, and the contrast with the blue paint is very appealing. Most of these Cutlass convertibles got bench seats, so it's surprising to see just how right a center console looks. The original stainless-faced gauges are a good match with the four-spoke steering wheel, and there's a set of small aftermarket gauges hanging underneath. This car came equipped with factory A/C, which has been recently upgraded with a new compressor and R134a refrigerant, so it's effective and easy to service. It also comes with power windows, which is always a big plus in a convertible, and the original AM radio has been augmented by an under-dash AM/FM/CD stereo head unit with speakers in the kick panels. This car also offers a matching white power convertible top with a glass rear window as well as a nicely outfitted trunk with a matching fifth wheel and tire assembly. Oldsmobile's "Rocket" 350 cubic inch V8 shares very few parts with its corporate cousins, so it has a personality all its own. Olds was always about torque, and even this small block delivers in a big way, making the convertible feel effortless in everything it does. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and goes about its business in an unobtrusive way, exactly right for a car whose first priority is luxury. The engine is nicely detailed in Oldsmobile Gold paint with correct decals on the air cleaner. You'll also find an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, a new alternator, the aforementioned A/C compressor upgrade, and a new power booster for the braking system. Dual Flowmasters give it a distinctive sound that's unique to Oldsmobile V8s and the turn-downs just under the rear bumper keep it looking subtle. GM's reliable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission was the gearbox of choice behind the small block V8 and it feeds highway-friendly gears in the 10-bolt rear, which has been upgraded with a W-27 aluminum cover. Big sway bars fore and aft tidy up the Cutlass's handling and power front disc brakes were standard equipment. Pretty Rally II wheels have been color-matched to the bodywork and now carry fat BFG rubber. This is one of those well-maintained cars that's a joy to own. Trust us on this one, an Oldsmobile is the one you want, not a garden-variety Chevelle. How about a stunning 1971 442 wearing bright yellow paint from a Rallye 350 and packing a thundering 455 cubic inch big block. Of course, a few mods like front disc brakes, a Hurst dual-gate shifter, and a little more horsepower never hurt, and the result is a brutal 442 tribute that looks and drives like you've always imagined. The riveting yellow paint isn't for everyone, but if you're an Olds fan, you'll recognize it right away. Between the stripes, the twin-nostril W25 ram air hood, the wing, and the dual trumpets in the rear bumper, this 1971 Olds has every visual trick Oldsmobile used to get buyers into the showrooms. And they all work quite well to make one of the most eyeball-grabbing pieces of muscle we've ever offered. The work is extremely well done by a guy who knows Oldsmobiles inside and out so it looks the way the factory might have built it back in '71. Admittedly, it's not subtle so don't expect to keep a low profile, but if it's attention you crave, this car will do it better than most. The paint and bodywork are quite good and the paint has been protected with PermaFinish, so it's extremely low maintenance. Other goodies include LD taillights, brand new red W-30 inner fenders, and hood pins to give it a dominating look in the other guy's rear-view mirror. An equally large sum of money was lavished on the interior of this Olds, and gives the black buckets an almost-new look. It's quite correct and a nice contrast to the arrest-me-yellow bodywork, but there's no question you're sitting inside a performance car. The optional Rally Pack gauges include a Tick-Tock-Tach in addition to the standard stainless-faced dials, all set into a handsome woodgrained dashboard and assisted by a set of auxiliary gauges under the dash. A 4-spoke steering wheel looks properly sporty and a Hurst dual-gate shifter manages the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, the only automatic gearbox stout enough to handle Oldsmobile's biggest big block. Even the vintage-looking AM/FM/cassette radio is new and powers fresh speakers throughout the interior. The trunk is outfitted with a reproduction mat as well as a custom cover for the full-sized spare. The reason you build a 442 tribute like this is horsepower, and lots of it. The 455 cubic inch Oldsmobile V8 packs a tremendous punch thanks to modifications like a performance cam, Holley Street Avenger 4-barrel carburetor on an Edelbrock intake, and long-tube headers, just in case you were feeling light on torque. Those red inner fenders make for a dramatic presentation and it's dressed up with lots of chrome for impact. MSD supplied the ignition system and the twin Magnaflow mufflers end in stainless trumpets under the rear bumper. Front and rear sway bars, front disc brakes, and a trick aluminum cover for the W27 10-bolt rear end mean that this Olds is built for fun, not static display. Color-coordinated Super Stock II wheels always look best on an Oldsmobile and wear new BFG radials all around. The comprehensive restoration has left this 442 as far more than the sum of its parts. A lot of spares and original components come with the car, too, so if it's more radical than you'd prefer, you can take it back a notch. But who would do that when this car is so much fun as it sits? By the time this 1968 Oldsmobile 442 was built, the big A-body bruiser had already established itself as a formidable performer, but one for grown-ups, and as such, it offers things like A/C, a sophisticated color combination, and a great ride. Crocus Yellow is this 442's original color, and the subtle hue makes it the perfect prowler on the streets. Oldsmobile wanted their muscle car to stand out, of course, but they didn't want to make too much noise (that would come in 1970, of course). So in addition to the light yellow paint, this one sports only a black stripe on the front fenders and some subtle 442 emblems to make it stand out. Fans will spot it instantly and there's simply nobody who can argue that the Olds isn't a great-looking car from any angle. The paint was probably refinished back when Bill Clinton was still president but it's holding up well and has a great look that makes it ideal for local cruises where you can really drive the car. A few touch-ups here and there don't detract from the overall presentation, and it's pretty obvious that this was not a car that was ever wrecked or rusty. The front end is a familiar Oldsmobile look, the chrome and trim is shiny, and there's just no mistaking that Soft-Ray tint on the glass. A Parchment interior is a rather unusual choice with the Crocus Yellow but the trim tag tells the whole story; yes, that's how it was originally built. The bucket seats look to be wearing recent seat covers that fit well and accurately reproduce the originals, but things like the door panels and dash appear to be original. Buckets with a column shifter is an unusual combination, again illustrating Oldsmobile's customer base was more grown-up than those over at Chevy and Pontiac stores. Three round pods house the instruments while the secondary controls are in a panel underneath, and just check out the cool rotary switches for the headlights and wipers. Factory A/C remains fully functional with good old R12 inside and the original AM radio is still in the dash, although it might be due for a replacement sometime soon. Nice carpets, a full-sized back seat, and a big trunk with a full-sized spare round out the list of desirable features on this Olds. The only motor you could get in your 442 was a 400 cubic inch V8, running right up against GM's 400-cubic-inch limit for intermediate cars. We believe it to be the original, numbers-matching engine but can't confirm, but looking at its condition and the authentic details, there's no reason to believe it's been swapped. The big Olds V8's calling card is torque, and it gets this handsome coupe moving without ever working hard, barking out a wonderful baritone from the twin trumpets out back. Bright red paint makes the 442's engine look special and options like power brakes and power steering make it easy to drive even with all that cast iron over the front end. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission was optional and seems like the right choice in a luxury-themed muscle car like this, and it feeds a tough 10-bolt rear end out back. The 14-inch Super Sport wheels have been painted to match the bodywork and then fitted with a set of 225/70/14 Uniroyal white-letter radials. This 442 has been a favorite within a large car collection, and now it's time for you to enjoy one of the most under-rated muscle cars of the era. Nicely restored a few years ago, this Olds absolutely delivers on the promises made by its outrageous bodywork. The Rallye 350 was designed to compete with the Road Runner and other "affordable" muscle cars, delivering the performance look with a more mild powertrain ("mild" being a relative term). All 3547 cars wore the same bright Sebring Yellow paint job with color-matched bumpers and a dramatic satin black graphics package, twin-snorkel fiberglass hood, and decklid spoiler, so it certainly looks the part of a maximum muscle performance car. It is only recently that these cars are achieving collector notoriety, so finding one accurately restored like this can be a challenge. The sheetmetal is in great condition, particularly the bulging rear quarters that look like horsepower rendered in steel, and while it's not perfect, it offers great gaps and doors that open and close easily. The decals, stripes, and logos are all accurate reproductions, and yes, the factory urethane-coated bumpers remain in place (many were jettisoned in favor of stock chrome units by irate dealers who struggled to sell the unusual-looking cars). Today, however, the Rallye 350 stands out as something special that's finally got collectors' respect. Despite their target audience being folks looking for affordable performance, this Olds is dressed up in some expensive designer clothes inside. Dual buckets and a center console definitely enhance its muscle car credentials, with the Oldsmobile chairs having an upscale pattern that's comfortable as well as stylish. The dash was standard Cutlass fare with burled walnut appliques and brushed stainless steel on the gauge faces, and as an Oldsmobile, this one carries factory A/C that was only available with the automatic transmission. Remote mirrors with color-matched housings were included with the package, and this car also carries a factory radio in the dash with a modern AM/FM/CD head unit in the glove box and speakers in the kick panels. The Hurst shifter knob isn't stock, but the original one is included with the car if that's what you prefer. Everything is recently restored and fresh, from the headliner to the carpets, with the trunk finished using a reproduction mat and custom "Tweety Bird" spare tire cover. The only engine in the Rallye 350 was the L74 Oldsmobile 350 which was rated at a stout 310 horsepower thanks to a recently rebuilt 4-barrel carb and standard dual exhaust. Reproduction decals were used wherever possible and even the little stuff is accurate, making this Olds look and run like it's supposed to. The air conditioning system has been upgraded to R134a refrigerant, and it exhales through a throaty dual exhaust system which is the only major deviation from stock. A rugged TH350 3-speed automatic backed by an Oldsmobile 12-bolt rear (which is different from the Chevy version) makes for an indestructible powertrain, and 3.23 gears out back make it an effortless highway cruiser. All Rallye 350s got the FE2 performance suspension setup and color-matched Rallye II wheels, with this particular car wearing trim rings that weren't standard equipment but are definitely a welcome addition. With its distinctive look and impressive performance, the Rallye 350 is a serious alternative for hobbyists looking for something a little unusual. Add in matching numbers and a few smart mods, and this is one you can drive and show with pride. First of all, it's very neatly preserved by people who definitely thought it was something special. And second, it spent most of its life in single family ownership, having been passed down as a cherished family heirloom. Of course, that also overlooks the fact that the Cutlass was arguably the best-looking of the A-bodies and costs a fraction of its Chevrolet and Pontiac siblings. Perhaps Bamboo isn't the flashiest color for a muscle car, but the Cutlass is about more than just horsepower. The blend of performance and luxury that Oldsmobile offered is embodied in this Cutlass ragtop. The body is sporty, with dramatic curves, flared fenders, and a handsome front end that was instantly recognizable as being from the rocket division. But it's a sophisticated kind of sporty, not aggressive or over-blown, which means no stripes or brash nicknames, just an upscale look with a subtle paint job that still looks fantastic. The car has never been wrecked or rusty, so everything fits together exactly the way the factory assembled it more than 40 years ago. Even the chrome is still quite nice, with no parking lot dings or signs of corrosion around the edges, which is doubly impressive in a car that was actually, you know, used as a car for many years. Yes, it's been used and driven, so it's not perfect and there are some bumps and bruises, but if you want a solid A-body that's led a good life, you could do a lot worse than this pretty ragtop. Choosing a black interior with the Bamboo paint was the right choice, although I'm guessing the brochures of the time were pushing white interiors instead. Bucket seats, a center console, and factory A/C suggest that someone was feeling generous with the options list and had this Cutlass built just the way he wanted it. Other things, like the burled walnut dash appliques, the stainless steel gauge faces, and 4-spoke steering wheel were all standard Cutlass fare, and the combination works really well. An AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit replaces the original radio, and a matching black convertible top with glass rear window looks almost too nice to be original, but it might be. It includes a matching boot that gives the Olds a finished look that's perfect for, say, parades and sunny days. The trunk is pretty original with the factory mat still keeping things tidy and the spare tire looks to be quite recent. Oldsmobile's 350 cubic inch V8 shared exactly zero components with the Chevy version, and thanks to its higher nickel content in the iron block, has proven to be virtually indestructible out in the real world. It has a distinctive sound all its own, a sophisticated sound that's perfect for the Cutlass's dual nature. It's nicely preserved, with gold paint on the engine, original air cleaner, and a lot of new components that say someone loved to drive it. The floors are shockingly clean, and the chassis is almost 100% original save for the exhaust system, which interestingly enough hasn't even been converted to duals. Both the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and 12-bolt rear end have been recently serviced and the brakes were replaced within the past 12 months, so it's ready to enjoy. Classic Oldsmobile Rally wheels are painted a contrasting dark tan and wear 215/70/14 BFG radials. A neat car with a great story to tell makes for a fun hobby vehicle. The fact that it's a V8-powered A-body convertible is just icing on the cake. From new, these cars have enjoyed a cult following, perhaps due to their classic yet sporty styling, large dose of luxury, and effortless road manners. As is the case with many old cars, people didn't treat these like anything special when they were new, and as a result, finding a clean one like this Olds can be a challenge. Fortunately, it hails from a warm, dry climate and shows off its fantastic condition with shiny white gray paint and bright red pinstripes. There's no evidence of rust or panel patching, and those wide, heavy doors open and close as easily today as they did 30 years ago. The angular styling has aged quite well, and with the 1985 updates such as the fine-mesh grilles and chrome headlight bezels, it enjoys a semi-performance look that was a hallmark of Oldsmobile in its glory days. The chrome bumpers still look fantastic, showing no evidence that this car was "parked by feel" by an elderly owner, and all the bright stainless trim shines up nicely. And we have to admit that we like the lack of a padded roof, which makes it look a lot more contemporary and a lot less geriatric. Inside, it's pure Oldsmobile luxury thanks to a wide split bench seat and lots of legroom. With standard burgundy GM mouse fur upholstery, it remains in excellent condition with no rips or tears and very few signs of UV damage, which is rare in any car with red upholstery. In fact, the back seat looks virtually new and the carpets and door panels have been carefully preserved by a conscientious owner. Wood accents warm up the all-gray interior, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel combines with a ton of power accessories to offer a luxurious experience. Factory A/C, a tilt wheel, power windows and locks, and a rear defroster are also included, with the original AM/FM radio still pulling duty in the center stack. A standard Oldsmobile instrument panel monitors the basics of speed and fuel level, and the 62,335 miles shown are indeed authentic. One of the hallmarks of a full-sized luxury car is trunk space, and the cargo bay on this one is very nicely kept and still carries its original space-saver spare and jack assembly. Power comes from the corporate 3.8 liter V6, which is both unobtrusive and effective in its role aboard the Cutlass. Smooth and torquey, it gives the car great road manners, and thanks to years of development, cruises in virtual silence at any speed. The engine bay is extremely clean, more evidence of a good life with a caring owner, and it has not been modified save for a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers that give it a great voice. The A/C still uses good old R12 refrigerant for maximum effectiveness, and all the factory equipment, including the air cleaner, is fully intact, which is always a good sign. The chassis and floors are clean, with no signs of life in the rust belt and the 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission delivers surprising fuel economy on the open road. This particular '67 Olds Cutlass ragtop is a handsome, capable machine that delivers luxury and performance in equal measure, and it's a refreshing change from the long line of Chevelles and GTOs you usually find at the local cruise night. The color is a variation on the original code D Crystal Blue, but rendered in modern urethane it's almost electric. Whatever the name, dark blues are a staple of the Oldsmobile palette and always looks good on the unique sheetmetal curves. In 1967, the Cutlass was Oldsmobile's bread and butter line, with a wide variety of body styles, but none are as handsome as the convertible, which neatly straddles the line between muscle car and luxury car. The paint job is only a few years old, and was applied to straight body panels offering factory-style fit and finish and a deep shine that really looks great. Chrome is actually very good, including the unique Oldsmobile front end treatment where a two-tier bumper helps frame the headlights and grille. A bright strip of stainless parallels the body line around the fenders, and the stainless on the windshield surround still carries a decent shine. Original emblems, including the 'CS' badges representing Cutlass Supreme, hang in their original locations on the front fender and deck lid, adding their own upscale feel to the car. The handsome dark blue interior is the ideal complement to the blue paint, and we're wondering if perhaps the paint was matched to the new interior because the match is pretty darned close. Bucket seats and a console enhance the sporty attitude, along with a pair of round gauges in the dash that were the epitome of "racy" in the 1960s. Everything is in good condition, and aside from that locking center console with cup holders, it's pretty stock, right down to the original AM/FM radio in the dash. Other options include power windows, which are always welcome on a ragtop, as well as a glowing white power convertible top that looks almost new. The carpets and dash pad were also replaced during the restoration, so they're crisp and sharp, with the lower edges of the dash painted to match the body, so it all looks very neat. There's also a correctly detailed trunk with a new pad and full-sized spare with its own matching cover. There will be no surprises with the 400 cubic inch V8 under the hood, however. This car was built back when General Motors allowed each division to work independently and there was very little component sharing between the brands. As a result, the Oldsmobile V8 has a unique voice, delivering very respectable performance and legendary durability thanks to their high nickel content iron blocks. All Oldsmobile small blocks are painted gold, and the air cleaner on this one leaves no question about what kind of engine it is. Power steering and power brakes were appropriate additions to the options list, and there's a new alternator providing the electricity. The transmission is a TH400 3-speed automatic, which is an upgrade over the 2-speed Jetaway automatic from 1966, and the entire chassis is very clean. The dual exhaust system features Flowmaster mufflers that sound appropriately sophisticated for an Oldsmobile, and it rolls on a set of handsome chrome Torque Thrust wheels wearing 215/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rear blackwall radials. Oldsmobile fans already know this is a cool car, and if you're not yet an Oldsmobile fan but are looking for a cool drop-top cruiser this summer, you could do a lot worse than this cool Cutlass convertible. This particularly handsome 1972 Cutlass convertible shows just how good-looking these cars can be, offering an awesome color combination backed by a strong-running V8. Personally, I've always felt the Oldsmobiles were the most handsome of the A-bodies, and in particular, the convertible with its sporty look and dramatic fender cut lines. As far as we can tell, this one still carries all its original sheetmetal, all of which is in good condition. A few years ago, the car was treated to a makeover with fresh red paint (code A Matador Red, which is this car's original color) but they didn't change any of the Cutlass's inherent goodness, so they avoided fake 442 stripes and other add-ons. The finish is smooth and deep, and while it has a few signs of use, this is definitely a high-impact car that gets a lot of attention. Perhaps if we'd had more of these running around, it would have reinforced the idea that Oldsmobiles aren't just family cars. This one has plenty of go to go with the show. All the chrome and trim is intact, including the intricate egg crate grille and multi-piece taillight lenses and it appears that the bumpers have been re-chromed because they look fantastic. Open the door and you'll discover a very clean black and white interior with lots of original components. A front bench seat makes this car ideal for cruising and details like the wood appliques on the door panels and dash remind you that this is a few steps up from a basic Chevy. The gauges show beautiful brushed stainless faces and delicate orange-tipped needles, with a familiar 2-spoke steering wheel that should look familiar to any Oldsmobile fan. This ragtop carries power windows, which is always nice in a convertible, plus factory A/C that blows cold thanks to good old R12 refrigerant inside, and the original AM/FM radio is still in its slot with upgraded speakers in the rear side panels. The highly original trunk includes a full-sized spare and the white power convertible top works easily and offers a matching white boot. One glance at the gold-painted Rocket 350 will tell you that this is an Oldsmobile engine. Sharing nothing with the other GM engines of the same size, the Olds 350 is well-regarded for its virtually bulletproof construction and high-nickel-content iron block that has proven to be exceptionally durable over the years. It has been nicely detailed but has retained its factory-issued equipment, ranging from the air cleaner to the A6 compressor for the A/C system. Sure, it shows a few signs of use, but a weekend of cleaning things up would take it up a few notches and it does run superbly. The chassis is as clean as you'd expect from a car that has lived its life in a warm climate. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts well and there are easy-cruising gears in the original 10-bolt rear end. Dual exhaust has been added and gives the car that familiar Oldsmobile growl and four Goodyear white-letter radials have been fitted to color-matched Rallye II wheels which really accentuate the Oldsmobile's sporting personality. Ultra clean, fast, and stylish, this Olds is the answer when you're looking to get noticed without spending a small fortune. How about a stunning 1971 442 wearing bright yellow paint from a Rallye 350 and packing a thundering 455 cubic inch big block. Of course, a few mods like 4-wheel disc brakes, a Hurst dual-gate shifter, and a little more horsepower never hurt, and the result is a brutal 442 tribute that looks and drives like you've always imagined. Front and rear sway bars, 4-wheel disc brakes, and a trick aluminum cover for the W27 10-bolt rear end mean that this Olds is built for fun, not static display. Lots of room, a pillowy soft ride, and purring V8 power all make for a very unique driving experience that we'll never see again. With incredible preservation, this one will take you back to the great days of open-air cruising when American luxury made you feel like the king of the world. The color is called Silver Taupe and it looks just about right on this big Olds. Not aggressive, but rather sophisticated and elegant. It's also the car's original paint, and while it's not perfect, it is remarkably well-preserved for being more than 40 years old. You could give it a deep clean and a buff to really bring out the shine, but as it sits, it has a nice soft glow that makes you want to heat out west on a long road trip. Obviously with original paint the sheetmetal underneath is also original and in excellent condition and despite the era's reputation for excess, the Delta 88 is clean and chiseled without looking too baroque. A contrasting rub strip accentuates the car's clean flanks and a familiar Oldsmobile split grille up front was the corporate look during the mid-70s. Sure, there's some chrome, including a pair of bumpers as big as battering rams, but the overall presentation is restrained and trim. The black interior is also 100% original and shockingly well-preserved. Wide bench seats offer room for six and even the guys in the middle probably won't be complaining about space. There are no splits or tears in the seats, no major wear, just some very minor comfort marks that are probably inevitable. Neat trim on the doors adds a bit of interest to the otherwise monochromatic interior and even the faux woodgrain on the dash is pretty convincing. Power windows are a useful addition on any convertible and the AM/8-track radio provides reasonable entertainment if you happen to have some 8-track tapes lying around. The convertible top is also probably original and in good condition, and these big GM ragtops used a unique scissors mechanism that allowed for a full-width back seat as well as a glass rear window. There's a matching black boot for when the top is down and the trunk is outfitted with a correct rubber mat and full-sized spare. The 350 cubic inch "Rocket" V8 under the hood delivers plenty of power for effortless cruising and entertaining performance. No, these were never intended to be fast cars, but it has a graceful and inevitable feel and you just know that it was built to cruise all day at 80 MPH across the wide-open spaces. The engine bay is pretty original and not detailed for show, but there's plenty of recent maintenance, including a new radiator up front to keep it cool. It starts with a familiar Oldsmobile growl from the single tailpipe and idles smoothly enough that you can barely feel it through the steering wheel. As a full-sized car, the big Olds gets a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end with 2.73 gears inside, so it's a superlative highway cruiser. The floors are in good condition for an original car, and it hasn't lost a bit of its impossibly smooth ride. Part of that is attributable to the cushy 225/75/15 Uniroyal radials, which have been fitted to the original wheels. With only three owners and a remarkable state of preservation, this Olds represents high-quality summer time fun at a very reasonable price. We can't seem to keep cars like this 1964 Oldsmobile F85 hardtop in stock. Perhaps it's the combination of luxury and performance that appeals to buyers, or maybe the handsome yet restrained good looks. Either way, you're getting a heck of a lot of car for not a lot of cash when you shop for a Rocket. In the early days of the horsepower wars, the F85 was designed to appeal to the younger Oldsmobile buyer, and it did so with a classic combination of a mid-sized body and a stout V8 engine. The same platform that underpins the other GM intermediates works just as well here, giving the F85 clean lines and a sleek overall look. Repainted a few years ago after long-term ownership in a single family (more than 50 years!), it enjoyed a color change from Jade Green to bright red, and the choice was a good one. No longer a wallflower, this F85 now looks the part of a '60s performer. All the trim was pulled and polished while the paint was being done and the looks is just about ideal without any extraneous brightwork to detract from the purposeful vibe this Olds gives off. The bodywork was taken down to bare metal for the respray, and with a wet sand and buff could probably be taken up a notch or two, but even as it sits, this car gets attention just because it's not the usual Pontiac or Chevy. Bright white vinyl upholstery is an awesome contrast to the red paint and the all-new interior is the jewel in this car's crown. Buckets with a column shifter seems unusual, but for Oldsmobile it was pretty common and neatly balances sport and luxury. Fresh door panels complement the seats and with black carpets it has a dignified look that's still low maintenance. The steering wheel is a wonderfully ornate piece that's in fantastic condition and you might note that the speedometer has additional markings to compensate for the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that was swapped in place of the PowerGlide 2-speed. There are also auxiliary gauges tucked under the dash and a modern AM/FM stereo head unit, so it's contemporary and ready to cruise. The back seat is big enough for real-sized adults and the massive trunk offers a correct mat and a full-sized spare with its own cover. Oldsmobile's 330 cubic inch was all about torque and moves the relatively light F85 with real gusto. It was rebuilt to stock specs just recently and runs superbly with a unique V8 sound that should be familiar to Oldsmobile guys. The gold engine and red air cleaner are correct and proper reproduction decals were used wherever they were needed. Power steering and power brakes work with the automatic transmission to convey that easy driving style Oldsmobile cultivated with its buyers and it pulls well through all three gears. The single exhaust sounds muffled and appropriate for the big coupe and there's a new gas tank hanging out back. Familiar Oldsmobile Rally II wheels are color-matched to the body and now carry fresh 14-inch blackwall radials. Complete with the original warranty card and owner's manual, this is a cool cruiser with an unusual look and a great history that's ready to rock today. Because after you see this wonderful 1970 Cutlass Supreme, you'll probably agree that Olds got it right with this one. Sporty, elegant, and quick, it's the perfect combination of features for a guy who doesn't need 500 cubic inches and flashy stripes to have a good time in an old car. Oldsmobile called the color "Gulfstream Blue" and about ten years ago it was repainted to match how it looked when it rolled out of the showroom. It works extremely well on the chiseled Oldsmobile's sheetmetal, looking quite forward-thinking for 1970 but also fashionable in 2013. Cool, right? You're also going to be pleased to see how straight it is underneath, so you don't need to make any excuses for this Cutlass, because it's every bit as nice as it appears in the photos. Sure, it's got a few signs of use and age, but at this price, you're getting one heck of a good-looking coupe. No stripes, but it does carry a 442 hood that will take an expert eye to recognize, but there's really nothing that gets in the way of the original look that is GM's best blend of performance and style of the era. A recent blue vinyl top looks more elegant than the original white and fits snugly with no worries because isn't hiding any of the usual bad stuff underneath. There's plenty of chrome acting as jewelry against the bright blue paint, plus the tightly-knit front grille and matching taillights that make it sparkle. It definitely looks like a luxury car inside, where light blue bench seats add to the upscale atmosphere. The upholstery is in excellent condition, which is thanks to a combination of durable materials and excellent care since it was restored in 2005. Factory air is not unusual in these cars, but it sure is nice when you're out cruising or on a long road trip, although this one could benefit from a quick recharge to put it back to 100%. Even the original AM/ radio is in the dash with a factory 8-track player hanging underneath, so get ready to answer questions from curious onlookers. It's quite comfortable inside and still completely stock so it'll be welcome at any show you attend without having to make disclaimers about modifications. The gauges with their clear black-and-white markings look great, the orange needles are still vivid, and the burled walnut dash still shows well. Open the trunk and you'll find a recent mouse fur mat, correct spatter paint, and a compact spare that's a good idea even in a full-sized car like this. Guys who know Oldsmobiles know that Olds' 350 inch small block is as durable as a block of granite and makes great torque that its siblings over at Chevy and Pontiac can only envy. With a unique sound, it fires easily and offers a slightly lumpy idle that hints of performance to come. The engine was rebuilt in 2000 to stock specs and detailed with turquoise engine enamel, a stock air cleaner, and new ignition components, and today looks like a well-maintained machine that has never needed major surgery. It's backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic and a set of highway-friendly gears in the 10-bolt rear, so it just loafs along at highway speeds, making it the ideal car for long road trips and the recent dual exhaust system sounds great without being annoying. A big part of the Cutlass's sporty demeanor comes from those color-matched SSII wheels, which wear 215/75/14 whitewall radials. Handsome, fun to drive, and attractively priced, this Olds offers the smart hobbyist an easy way into the hobby. Is it any wonder why we love them so much? Cars like this 1966 Cutlass 442 offer the same big engine thrills as those other models but with more polish and sophistication. This one also packs a gorgeous interior, a strong-running 400 cubic inch V8, and a look that will set it apart everywhere it goes. For an adult's car, this 442 hardtop has a very elegant look and the burgundy paint is a big part of it. It's beautifully done and the color will elicit questions at fueling stops about what color it might be, as onlooker seem to be taken with the big, burgundy coupe. Crisp body lines are a highlight of the 1966 Cutlass, and the sharp crease running along the tops of the fenders make a subtle yet effect styling statement. Finish quality is very good, with a slick finish that shines up beautifully and looks deep enough to swim in, but not so perfect that you'll be afraid to drive it. Oldsmobile designers weren't afraid to use chrome, even on their top performance model, so the bumpers, the grille surround, and side trim are all bright metal that sparkles against the darker paint. Although only an original build sheet will 100% verify the 442 trim package in these years, this is a 5V stamped car from the Lansing plant, proving it's authenticity to us, and to most Olds connoisseurs. Correct 442 badges have been installed in the blacked-out grille, on the quarter panels, and on the deck lid, subtle reminders that this is not your grandfather's Oldsmobile. The tan interior is the jewel in this car's crown, a beautifully finished driver's compartment that shows you why you should own an Oldsmobile instead of a Chevy. Rich materials and beautiful patterns make it look far more luxurious and expensive than its price would suggest and the work was done quite recently so it's in excellent condition. The seats and door panels are soft ultra-leather and the carpets are new, and with some burgundy highlights on the dash and steering wheel, there's a great contrast that looks fantastic. The factory gauges cover only the bare minimum, so a set of Sunpro under-dash auxiliary gauges were installed and there's a factory-installed AM/FM radio just above them. The instrument panel's bright face is original and is probably the only item inside that shows the car's age, as even the trunk features a new mat and full-sized spare tire that's never been used. The first "4" in 442 stood for the 400 cubic inch V8 under the hood. With plenty of torque, moving the big coupe is effortless, and rather than pinning you back with explosive acceleration, this one moves like an electric locomotive with a feeling of inevitability about it. It's wonderfully detailed with Oldsmobile Gold paint on the block, chrome valve covers, and an Edelbrock intake manifold to brighten things up. A Holley 4-barrel carburetor and HEI ignition system enhance power and reliability, but it's still stock enough to be easy to maintain and it'll drive anywhere, anytime. The underside is painted body color, which highlights the satin black frame, and even the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission was painted to blend in. A Flowmaster dual exhaust system gives the big Olds a distinctive voice and there's a new gas tank hanging out back. Classic Magnum 500 wheels look right on just about anything of the period, including this Cutlass, and they wear fresh blackwall radials for a performance look. We like this car a lot. It's attention-getting without being too flashy and it backs it up with solid performance. There's a lot invested here but the price is a bargain.
