Two extra chrome plated stone guards for spotlights, (never used or fitted). Bonnet has ventilation louvres pressed into it. OVERALL ASSESSMENT This car is mechanically sound in everyway. After 26 odd years it is an excellent reliable driver in eye catching condition. It has never been driven in snow, salt, rain, has never been wet and has always been kept in a waxed and polished condition. During the past 6 years I have started the engine on a regular basis and have driven it short distances to check the brakes and to ensure oil and grease have reached the correct spots. The oil pressure is 40 psi when hot. I am no longer able to get into it owing to two replacement knees and advancing arthritis.

This a 1954 MG TF, HDE 43/2702, engine XPAG TF/32586 (1250cc). Originally green, it was manufactured on 22 January 1954. The engine and body numbers match factory records, but the original makers plate as well as the body number plate on the underside of the tool box are missing. Blank replacement plates are included. The car number 2702 is stamped into the left front frame extension, and the engine number 32586 is on the bronze plaque on the engine. The car was in running condition when the previous owner purchased it in 1978. He began a restoration effort two years later. The restoration effort did not progress past the disassembly phase, although the body tub was completely rebuilt with new wood by William Thompson of Greensboro, North Carolina. New door latches and handles were fitted. The replacement wood floor boards are unused. The car and all its parts have been stored in a garage since 1980. Most of the mechanicals appear to be OEM. All instruments are present. The tachometer and speedometer were tested for operation with a slow-speed drill and appear to function normally. The white paint on the needles and numbers is somewhat yellow and cracked in spots. The odometer has 78,549 miles on it. I have no way to verify that this is accurate. Oil pressure, water temperature and ammeter gauges have not been tested. The windscreen wiper system is complete including the motor, which has been re-greased and tests good. The windscreen itself is complete with the chrome in excellent condition. The generator and starter bench-tested good. Both horns refurbished and painted black; good sound. The original interior panels are absent, but a tan interior panel kit and a tan leather seat kit from Moss Motors are included. The seats are presently black vinyl and have obviously been recovered. The hood is a black AMCO replacement, as are the four side curtain coverings. These are in fair-to-good condition and would probably be useable, but are far from show condition. The plastic windows are moderately yellowed with age. The engine can be turned with the hand crank, but it appears to have been rebuilt shortly before the previous owner purchased the car: the printing on the face of the clutch plate is still legible, and the gaskets show little sign of extended engine operation. The transmission shifter moves smoothly between all gears. 1-1/2 inch SU carbs with low profile chrome air cleaners are present, as is an untested fuel pump. The frame is straight as measured on the major diagonals. The left wing has been inexpertly leaded along the outside edge of the headlamp protrusion as well as an area toward the front outside of the wing. The front outside of the right wing has a few minor dents. My local body shop stated it would take them about 10 hours of labor to correct the wings and get them ready for final painting. There are no creases or tears in the wing sheet metal. The rest of the sheet metal is in excellent shape - great shape actually. All of the sheet metal has been cleaned and primed - albeit years ago - except for the gas tank which retains what may possibly be the original dark green paint color. There is no evidence of rust or pitting except for very minor surface rust where the primer has been scratched by handling over the years. All the sheet metal appears to be original, with the exception of the inspection panels and gas tank end panels, which are replacements. Also, the previous owner replaced many pieces - mainly the chrome - and discarded the originals. Radiator shell and slats in very good condition. The wheels are 60-spoke painted wires. They are not original to the car but were added by the previous owner. The tires are worn and must be replaced; they hold air but are suitable only for moving the vehicle around the shop or for slow-speed towing. The muffler has a hole in it and will require replacement. Most rubber parts will need to be replaced. Many new ones are included with the car. The radiator and gas tank appear to be in good shape, but both have been empty for nearly 35 years. There is just a wee bit of oil in the engine sump, not enough to register on the dipstick. Overall, the car is roughly 98 % complete. In general all the big pieces and most of the little ones are present. However, I’ve verified the following items are absent: - All four bumper overriders - Rugs - Rear bumper backbar - Both floorboard supports under transmission tunnel - Fuel line adapter at tank as well as the tank drain plug - Cowl dashboard trim rail (wood) and pad - Exhaust flange nuts and studs (3) - Battery - Miscellaneous nuts, bolts and spacers Additionally, there are many spare parts such as voltage regulators, horns, and non-TF generators, fuel pumps, starters and carbs. An engine stand, engine hoist, and Whitworth spanners and sockets are included. There’s also two or three boxes of GM parts. There is no title, only a Bills of Sale going back two owners before me. In Pennsylvania, non-running, disassembled autos are not issued titles until they are returned to running condition. INSPECTION: I strongly encourage you or your representative to inspect the car before bidding. I have done my best to accurately describe the state of the car with this description and the photos. WARRANTY: The car is sold “as is”. There is no warranty implied or expressed. PICKUP: PICKUP MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF CLOSE OF AUCTION. HOWEVER, THIS REQUIREMENT IS NEGOTIABLE IF YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES REQUIRE MORE TIME. OTHERWISE, IF NOT PICKED UP WITHIN THIS TIME FRAME, YOU FORFEIT ALL RIGHTS TO THE CAR. DOWNPAYMENT WILL NOT BE RETURNED. THE CAR WILL BE RE-LISTED FOR AUCTION. SHIPPING: Shipping and transportation are entirely the responsibility of the winning bidder. The rolling chassis is nearly 12’ long.A car trailer and truck or a 17-foot long truck would be necessary to accommodate the chassis and the rest of the disassembled parts. Most parts are in cardboard boxes although some are in closed plastic tubs; all the sheet metal is loose. The car is in a garage at my home, from which you must pick it up. I can assist you or your representative with preparing the loading, but you must ensure all necessary equipment and helpers are available to load the car into your choice of transport vehicle.
