I am the original owner this 1978 Mercury Cougar XR-7. SURVIVOR Less than 33,XXX original miles, 400 C.I.D. (6.6L) engine. FMX Trans. Everything is original including the paint, with the exception of battery, shocks, and tires. This car has never seen any snow or salt. I got caught in the rain with it a few times. When I bought the vehicle I sprayed the undercarriage with rust-oleum with less than 50 miles on the vehicle. I am the only one to have driven this vehicle. There is NO rust. NO door dings. NO scratches. This car was never wrecked and been kept in a heated garage with no window so there is no fading due to UV rays. It has never gone thru a automatic car wash. Therefore there are no minute' scratches in the paint. Waxed only (Hand rubbed) with simoniz original. yellow can. Even the rubber door seals are like new and still flexible. The oil has been changed every 2000 miles. The only fuel used in this vehicle has been Amoco (now BP) ultimate 93 octane. It has never been smoked in. No leaks now or ever. Email any questions that you might have. This car is as close to perfect as you will get. I am convinced this is the best example of a 1978 Cougar XR-7 in the country. The paint is Dark Brown Metalic This is a solid car with no mechanical issues and guaranteed not to have a spec of rust anywhere. It does need tires and a muffler, the muffler is original and has a small hole in the rear where condensation lies, and the tires are about 26 years old. I am only sellng because I have to many vehicles and decided to sell a few. Yes, I am getting old! Everything has been documented. I have all documents and the shop manuals. 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7-G A little history about this car......The year 1967 was sensational for Lincoln-Mercury, with the introduction of Cougar exceeding all sales forecast expectations. The Cougar racing team was very successful as well, placing second in the SCCA group II sedan racing series, known today as TransAm. Dan Gurney was the team captain of the Cougar racing team and, as part of his contract, Lincoln-Mercury could use his name and likeness for advertising and promotion.Taking advantage of their agreement with Gurney, L-M introduced a sales promotion during the 1967 model year with an option package called the Dan Gurney Special. The package consisted of a sticker on the passenger rear window, chrome engine dress up kit and turbine wheel covers. The Dan Gurney Special option continued into the 1968 model year, but only included the window sticker and wheel coversThen, during the 1968 model year, Lincoln-Mercury introduced the XR7-G option, which was also promoted through the use of Dan Gurney’s name (the G stood for Gurney). I originally bought this car in 1990 that was owned locally in North Carolina and sold it in 1995 to an engineer that worked for the Ford Motor Company.I bought it back in 2002 and had it ever since.I want to say is most of the original car is all there.The original color of this car was lime frost green and now it is augusta green. The sunroof was rebuilt and functions fine it just needs a drive cable which costs about $100 or so. The only minor rust it has is a quarter sized area pictured under the passenger door and a small ding by the trunk also pictured. This car has always been garaged. Also, I have extra parts such as a four barrel, the bullet shaped side view mirrors and a lot more that would be coming along with this car.

1988 Cougar XR-7 rat rod with a built 351W. Engine has less than 500 miles on it. Its a 1969 block bored .030 over, balanced rotating assembly, KB hypereutectic flat top +6.50cc pistons KB151-030, ARP rod bolts, summit sum-4400 cam, poerted 1969 351W heads, Professional products typhoon upper PFS-54125 and lower PFS-54126 intake, 24lb fuel injectors, BBK fox body swap headers. Flow Master exhaust Has also been converted to mass air. Timing has been retarded in order to run 93 octane fuel. This is a high compression motor and runs best on racing fuel. Transmission is a stock AOD, also has a stock starter but it should be upgraded to a high torque mini starter it can be hard to start when warm This is a fast car turn key and runs.
